10 Best Tours in Savannah

"Old Savannah Tours runs hop-on-hop-off tours that meander through Savannah’s downtown historic district. The charismatic drivers are trained guides who deliver entertaining and educational histories of the city. There are a bunch of trolley tours of Savannah, but Old Savannah stands out for its use of local "characters" to bring some of the stops to life. As the trolley draws up to various buildings, actors emerge playing figures like William Jay, the young British architect who designed some of the first townhouses, and Savannah's most famous fictional resident, Forrest Gump." - Paul Oswell

We did the one-day Old Town Trolley Tour in Savannah with hop-on/hop-off privileges. We started at Stop #16 around 9:30 AM and rode the full 90-minute loop first, which we highly recommend to get oriented before exploring. Our guide, Cami, was fantastic—personable and very clear in how she shared Savannah’s history. A few tips: • Hop-on/hop-off can be tough during busy times. Many stops had more people waiting than seats available, so you may wait longer than expected to reboard. Doing the full loop first worked best for us. • It’s open air, so dress for the weather—layers if it’s cool, sun protection if it’s warm. • Expect some noise. Families and chatty adults can make it harder to hear at times, though guides do try to manage it. • Bring a little cash to tip your guide. We didn’t see another way to tip, and they truly earn it. Overall, we’d definitely recommend this tour. It’s a great way to see Savannah and learn the history—just go in with realistic expectations about crowds and noise, and you’ll have a great time.

My mom had never been to Savannah, so it was a great way to see the sights. It was convenient to park at the visitors center and reasonably priced. We had several drivers, and they were all informative and entertaining. My only complaint was having 2 trollies pass us by in a row at the same stop because they were full. I wished we had more time to hop off more to take pictures. We've been to Savannah many times, and we learned a lot and into some areas we've never been. So much beautiful architecture and history.

My boyfriend and I LOVED the hop on & hop off trolley! The drivers/tour guides were safe, so charming and informative. I recommend the Prohibition Museum and Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. So fun seeing the Forest Gump filming spot. We would love to live in Savannah one day! 5/5 recommend especially if this is your first visit to the city. Trolleys arrive to each stop quickly - we didn’t wait too long at all.

My wife and I loved the Savannah Hop On Hop Off trolley. I can't say enough about the drivers, so knowledgeable, funny, and gave great suggestions of where to go and where to eat. Especially enjoyed riding with Red and Ben Bear. We highly recommend this trolley for visiting all the great sites in Savannah.

I honestly had no desire to do this tour because I thought it was a tourist trap. However, the person I was traveling with really wanted to do it, so we did. It was honestly such a great tour! You learn so much history about the city and the buildings. You can also hop on and hop off as much as you'd like, which made it super convenient. We hopped on and off a lot so we had a lot of different drivers and all of them were amazing! If you're in Savannah, I definitely recommend doing this tour!

Google
The trolley tours are awesome with very knowledgeable and entertaining guides. The one guide was absolutely hilarious and you could tell he enjoyed what he does. He had us laughing the entire time. He has the authentic Georgia southern accent to set the tone of the entire tour. DA was the best trolley guide they have so they definitely need to hang on to him. We saw a lot of beautiful and historic sites. It was very enjoyable! Thanks DA!

Google
We had the best time . It’s a great way to see the whole area and the ability to stop and get off when you want to. Deion was a great host . He was very funny and kept it entertaining for the crowd. We also had another driver and I can’t remember his name but he was also great. Was very upbeat and was singing to the crowd. They were both amazing. Definitely do this tour if in Savannah. You won’t regret it.

We took the Old Town Trolley Tour 8 years ago. We liked it so much that we decided to take it again. We had a fantastic time from 11AM to 5:30PM. We had three different drivers on 10/10/25. Ellis was our favorite as he provided us with a comprehensive, congenial history of the city as we traveled to 16 stops in 90+ minutes. He also recommended an excellent place for lunch, which we enjoyed. We also ate dinner there. We had perfect weather - sunny and cloudy, and no rain. It was cool as we rode from stop to stop. We went to every stop, and when it started over again, we got off at stop 10 to eat and shop. We walked to stop 11 and got on again. This time we got off at the Riverwalk. We shopped, and got back on, riding to stop 9 where our car was parked at the visitor center. There are two tours: 75 minute historical tour in an enclosed white bus and a 90 minute tour in an open air yellow bus with individual & different commentary by the driver you have. We have not tried the first one. We like being able to get on and off, and listening to different drivers' perspectives. The staff at each of the visitor centers housing the tour are friendly and knowledgeable. They gave us coupons with our map. Unfortunately we forgot to use them when we visited and shopped at five of the locations! Maybe you'll be more aware and remember to use them after your tour!

Yelp
Old Town Trolley is an excellent way to experience the touristy core of Savannah without renting a car. We purchased a 2-day pass that allowed us to hop on and off each day until 5 PM, after which we used Uber/Lyft to get around. I recommend hopping on and off, as each driver has their own personality, and some are definitely more engaged and interesting than others. Even though some of the trolleys were a bit crowded, there was never too much of a wait until another came along. The route map allowed us to grab lunch/coffee along the way and check out some attractions while getting a historical overview of Savannah, and getting accustomed to the city layout. The only negative experience was at the Old Town Trolley welcome center where one of the sales guys was disappointed we bought our tickets in advance via the AAA website, touting it's the best price to purchase through them, when in fact it was more expensive to purchase on site. He proceeded to then hand us 2 brochures, one of which had an outdated route map, which made things confusing on our first day of using the trolley. Overall, using Old Town Trolley was a great way to get around Savannah and doing the whole tourist thing without having to rent a car, and I would recommend them to others.

Yelp
I wouldn't recommend splurging if you have an active toddler, I'll share my experience, others might have had a different one. The driver/guide was nice but not too long into the route he did sternly announce along the lines of "if you're having a conversation I can't stop you but please keep your volume low". The trolley quieted down and to keep my toddler quiet and from having his full blown tantrums, I turned on Ms. Rachel at what I felt was a very low and reasonable volume. Mind you this is an open air trolley with traffic noise all around, not a library. Later into our ride we had another passenger ask us to "turn down the volume". I didn't realize people expected a quiet experience on what I felt was a public transport. We felt compelled to get off at the very next stop and honestly we just walked around the rest of the day and it was much quicker than the trolley anyways. I don't feel like it was a family friendly experience if you have young ones that can't follow instructions and know how to be quiet yet. Big waste of money for us. So just choose wisely, you can honestly walk around at your own pace and it'll be a better experience than sitting around a bunch of judgey folks that expect silence from a baby.

Yelp
For the most part we enjoyed the Old Town Trolley Tours. The information is very informative but it all depends on the driver/presenter. When we first got on, our driver/presenter was amazing. She was very engaging, very informative and presented the history very well. The second ride with a different driver/presenter was awful. She definitely was having a bad day as at a stop she went on a rant how no one was listening to her, how she only had to get through 5 years (not sure the significance) and then called on riders to answer past questions when they weren't even on the bus during the time that information was presented. Pretty unprofessional. So what we learned with these tours is the information is very good but it all depends on the driver/presenter. They really do make or break the trip so when they are good, let them know you appreciate it.

Yelp
After a 5 hour drive we thought this would be a good way to see and hear about Savannah. Miss. Pearl our driver made the trip fun and entertaining. We sang Christmas carols and wished those walking by Merry Christmas. Awesome experience.

Yelp
You can not be in the historic district without seeing these trolleys about. You can hop on and off, and it is a great way to get the lay of the land, while learning about Savannahs history. It is a very walkable city, but it is nice to have a sit and just take in your surroundings. I had several different drivers, but Red stood out. She shows a lot of love and knowledge for the city and was so engaging. I almost didn't want to get off at my stop, she pulls you in. They have some other tours that you can combine to get a discount, and I never had to wait more than about ten minutes for the next one to come.

Yelp
This was an excellent option to get around Savannah for a 2-day trip. I purchased the 2-day pass because I didn't want to rent a car and I planned on visiting several places around Savannah. The trolley drivers were great, each one brought their own charm to the narration. I actually rode so often, I probably know the city enough to do my own tour. :-) Getting off and on at various stops was a breeze and I never had to wait long for a pick-up. And the drivers allowed ample time for passengers approaching the shuttle to get on. I will say that the pick-ups at the actual Old Town Trolley storefronts usually had more people getting on, recommend maybe getting on at one of the in-between stops if possible. I found that all of the stops were very conveniently located a few steps, if not right in-front of most of the places to see. I was also lucky enough that there were a stop a few steps from my hotel. Definitely recommend to get around the main sites of Savannah.

Yelp
Kind of expensive bus ride around a pretty walkable city. They were recently purchased a few months ago and the website is not up-to-date with new ticket sales and location information. We missed the trolley luckily the driver called me, but he couldn't get me a shuttle in time. After speaking with two other sales representatives, Josh was able to help me! Thankfully, we didn't waste nearly $100 for one and a half hour bus ride around the city and we were able to hop on another bus but kind of lost its cluster so we got off and went to one of the stops and got something to eat after a long afternoon. The bus driver was really nice and friendly And tried to make it fun but my bubble was deflated. They have a nice ticket building with a QR code to purchase tickets, but be careful all of the buses don't go to that building for pick up. Who would know this? I would not do this again

Yelp
Had a fantastic time here with my son. Mother and son date night was fun. We enjoyed the tour and the history. We loved the stories and seeing the sights. Temperance our tour guide was fantastic! She was knowledgeable and engaging. She made the tour fun! My only concern was at points it was hard to hear from certain guests holding a side conversation, despite being asked multiple times to refrain from side conversations. Sandy our driver was great and kept us safe! This is definitely a tour we will do again!

Yelp
I think I've been on this tour about 6 times now. It's convenient, and the perks are amazing. The city of Savannah is a must see with all their monuments and different places of interests. This trolly tour takes you around the city, with hop on and hop off so you get to see a lot of Savannah and its beauty. There are numerous stops (not sure exact number 15 or 19?) a bus comes around every 15 minutes, so you can get off and see the sights and hop on another trolley. My favorite stop is the old city market, and the prohibition museum. Also river street where there's a lot to do. The narrators are always a wealth of knowledge, friendly, and humorous. Well worth the time, and money. I believe it runs about $50 per person.

Yelp
Great experience and best way to see the city. Convenient too as you can hop on and hop off anytime you want, and every single driver/tour guide were amazing and very informative. On one route we had the hilarious 'Big-E' who had a past life as a comedian and radio show host, and then another route we had 'Q' and she was so sweet and so funny herself. All the drivers were also very patient at each stop to everyone waiting outside to make sure they could get a seat or would radio the other trolleys to let the people who had to still wait how long the wait was - good customer service. Not a boring low energy tour at all, as you will be entertained and informed all at the same time. Price point IS higher at around $50 per person compared to similar tours I've done in other cities, but the tour guide's humor, customer service, and knowledge make it all worth i!

Yelp
Great way to get around BUT expensive. This is not a taxi service. One day fee is a lot. Plus you may wait a bit for a trolley. Great narrator and a bit corny but funny.

Yelp
5-12-24 Mother's Day 7-18-24 #1 Activity for out of town guests as well as for myself to learn all the history and happenings of Savannah. Note locals do get a discount. The first time we took the tour we heard the history and hubby especially liked the history of all the points of interest where the movie Forrest Gump was filmed. Including the square and bench where the movie filmed. The steeple for the beginning shot of the floating feather. They had the bus go in the opposite direction so the bus doors would open out to pick him up. The second visit I knew to get there super early so I would not miss one thing. Than we took the tour again and got off at City Market to go on the tour of the Prohibition Museum. Love the tour so much I literally could go all the time. Perhaps they should sell seasonal passes for locals like me that just love riding the trolley.

Yelp
The tour missed the mark a bit for me. Ellis was a great tour guide. Incredibly knowledgeable and clearly has a passion for the city and history. Magic Mike could use some work. He offered more personal opinions than factual information about the city. The hop on/off portion of the tour is fantastic especially if using the tour as transportation. There are plenty of stops throughout the very walkable city. I will say the tour is a bit on the expensive side.

Yelp
Mixed review. First driver, Bob or Jeff was the worst tour driver (photo attached). I ever experienced. It was a cold day and he had at least 3 of the plastic windows rolled up letting cold air in. When a large group got on, he told them to lower the plastic windows instead of getting up to lower them himself. Lazy attitude as these were seniors 70+. He needs remedial training or a change in careers. His description and dialog during the tour was garbled at best. Second driver after we changed buses was Mel Bell. Great tour driver. She provided tips on how ti switch buses to get where you wanted to go and spoke clearly with enthusiasm. We only had her for 3 stops as her shift apparently came to an end. 2 other drivers we had shortly were good also. Where best to start the tour was not clear. It's better to find out the address of each stop to decide where you want to start from. Don't go to the visitor center. Or better just go to the stop nearest yo you. I suggest the company vudro/audio tape drivers occasionally to see/hear how they are performing. But that means our first driver would have been terminated.

Yelp
Purchased our tickets via Viator. With Viator you earn rewards and can also use Rakuten for extra cash back. You can also cancel up to 24 hours before. Our passes were good for 2 consecutive days. My family has taken hop on hop off busses in several cities and the guides in Savannah are the type to actually narrate the tour. They are entertaining and informative, especially Mike and Cindy. Cindy in particular was extremely kind and generous, making sure that everyone got to their desired destinations at the end of the day. With such service, I highly recommend bringing cash to tip all of your drivers. This company offers free shuttle service from your hotel. You just need to call for assistance. From 4-5pm the trolleys start filling up but in our case, the driver of the full trolley called for another one to pick us up which took about 10 min. The only thing I wish is that they had an app to see when the next trolley would be arriving. Especially when it's cold and rainy.

Brena E.

Yelp
This is a good way to get an overall view of the city. I stayed on except for one stop, so I can't really speak to how they were on timing at stops. We did have to get off at stop one and wait in line and get on a new bus. I'm not sure if that's the case for every ride, but I had been hoping to stay on. A couple of drivers who stood out to me were JB and Butch.

Yelp
My husband & I very much enjoyed this tour! We especially appreciated the guide's knowledge and his recommendations for the local museums. Because of him we went to the wonderful prohibition museum which we might have passed up otherwise!
google avatar

Yelp
We took the full tour. We purchased our tickets online which was simple. Walked to the nearest stop where Pearl (our first driver) picked us up. Pearl was a delight. Spoke loud and clear and inserted her own humor which made the trip even more enjoyable. Our second driver was Capt. Phil he was also very good and enjoyable. We are also booked on one of the ghost tours in a few days, I cannot wait. Keep in mind you can hop on and off all day.

Yelp
Been on a couple Old Town Trolley Tours in other cities and they are very comparable. The way I try to use these "Hop On, Hop Off Tours" is to take the full ride the first time and decide where you might want to get off the next time around. The Savannah tour is about 90 mins so this might not be a viable option for you. The driver/guide was good at telling people places along the tour stops that could be a walking short cut if you want to get somewhere quicker. The history part of this tour is a bit lacking, but in all fairness, it's not exclusively at "historical tour". Plus, the driver was hard to hear because so many people were talking throughout the bus. We got what we wanted from our ride, identified a few spots we wanted to get to during our stay, and learned some history and Savannah facts.
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Our first driver was informative and interesting. Second one not much- a bit cranky and seemed annoyed it was a rainy day so it was great for touring in the rain but the trolleys got very crowded so we didn't dare hop off because we'd never have been able to hop back on
google avatar

Patrick O.

Yelp
For our first time to visit Savannah the tour was a really good thing to get to know the city. I think it was a little pricey at $40 per person but still worth it to learn the city. What the downside is that it shut down too early and we had to hire an Uber to get back to the parking lot. Keep an eye on your time and enjoy the ride.
google avatar

Tawnya L.

Yelp
I always love a good hop on hop off tour and this one was no exception! A great way to explore Savannah and learn about the history while seeing sites. All four of our tour guides were awesome! We really enjoyed the ambiance of the trolley and the guides made many excellent recommendations. We ended up visiting several of their recommended locations and they did not disappoint. The trolley arrived at each stop about every 20 minutes and we never had to wait long to before the next one arrived you can start and stop at any one of their designated locations and their gift shopped are a great addition! Also appreciated the various coupons and discounts they provided as an added perk. The tour is well worth the money and a great way to get out and see the city. I highly recommend this one!

Yelp
We had a tour booked and was asked to change the time of our tour for the same day. We spoke to Drew who couldn't have been more rude or less of a help. Everyone else was very pleasant and helpful but Drew shouldn't be in customer service if he's not willing or able to at least be professional and / or courteous to customers.
google avatar

Andrew E.

Yelp
Mel was our tour guide. She was very good. She knew a lot about the city and very enthusiastic. Just wanted to make sure she get recognized.
google avatar

Wellington J.

Yelp
The tour of Savannah had 15 stops. Learning about the history and the quirks about Savannah was fascinating. We had multiple drivers, and each was excellent at their job of describing what we were seeing. Each driver had their own special sense of humor. The only shortcoming was waiting for a trolley with empty seats, since standing can be tiring, especially if it is very warm and sunny.
google avatar

Betsy R.

Yelp
A very cool way to explore this city! We really enjoyed the hop on hop off experience! The tour guide was really good (I think he was 35 and his name started with a J). The tour guide script was very neat and cool to listen to but the trolleys fill up FAST! lol The only downside was how hot it was and that the trollies stop running at 5 pm. It was pretty overpriced but it was fun.
google avatar

Yelp
Jared! A wonderful tour guide! He built a mini community of patrons within minutes. Very knowledgeable and humorous.

Yelp
For our first time in Savannah this past weekend we decided to purchase a Groupon for Old Town Trolley Tours. It was for two days, and it included the entire 90 minute tour, with the ability to hop on and hop off at any of the 15 stops from 9:00am to 5:00pm. For our first ride, we did the entire 90 minute tour with Cainan, the driver. He was hilarious and very knowledgeable about the different stops and historic sites in Savannah. We loved how interactive he made the tour and how open and welcoming he was towards each passenger that got on the trolley. He invited questions from us and answered them right then and there. One of my biggest fears with getting the two day pass was that it would get repetitive and boring. However, we had a different driver each time we got on and they each put their own twists and fun facts into the tour. I feel like we learned something new with each ride around the town. If you are ever in town, you do not want to miss this experience! I included some pictures of things we saw around town. As a recommendation, a one day pass is enough get around if you are staying in the area. For the most part, most of the sites are walkable. But if you are staying farther away, then it would be good to invest in a two day pass to get around the town and see different sites.

Steve L.

Yelp
First time in Savannah and took the trolley tour as recommended by everyone. We had several drivers, all of whom were funny and knowledgeable, but Deion stood out with his humor, personality and knowledge. He was also quick to fix an issue with a broken trolley door so that we could continue. A great experience and a great way to see the city ! Thanks for making it fun, Deion !!

Jim F.

Yelp
We spent our time exploring the area at only one stop so didn't really take advantage of the full experience. The guides told great stories. The seats were too close together so my knees pressed against the seat in front of me which hurt. It's expensive for the way we used it.
google avatar

Stefanie T.

Yelp
Our tour guide, Addison, was very friendly and knowledgeable with his history and facts about Savannah. He was also extremely humorous which made the tour very fun, as well as was a very good driver and was cognizant of his passengers. The tour length (not getting off) was the perfect amount of time, however the flexibility of being able to get on and off if we wanted to was great. All around this was a great experience and my family and I highly recommend this tour.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
My wife and I were in Savannah for a long weekend vacation and I heard on Yelp that the trolley tour was a cool thing to try. Yes please. I actually rode it twice. The first guide was super cool and the second was great as well. I actually knew we were going to pick my wife up at a later spot and she was nice enough to get the whole trolley to say "Hay Michelle!" when she stepped on. It was super fun. They are awesome tour guides and they take you around to all the historic places in Savannah, which are plentiful. The stop was super close to our hotel, which even made it better. The guides had funny jokes and if I were I were an improv comic, it would be a fantastic place to hone my craft. We had perfect days on all our trips and I would highly recommend booking it for a day pass.

Yelp
It's been a couple of months since I was in Savannah and took a tour with Old Town Trolly. Even so, I still feel the need to write a review because it was such a great experience, even though I was totally uncertain whether I should actually do this while in Savannah. I'm sure glad I did because I was able to see so many different parts of the city - by trolly (and not foot, since I had just run a marathon) - and learn a ton of information along the way! While there is a hop-on, hop-off option, I stayed on the same trolly the entire time because I was a little short on time. Nonetheless, it was still worth it. My guide was friendly, funny, and full of fun facts. After running through Savannah, taking the trolly was the perfect way to get a different view of the city's charm and history - and learn more about what I had run past! If you're visiting Savannah for the first time, this is definitely worth doing and there are tons of coupons available to save a couple dollars. Take an early trolly so you have plenty of time to explore, and beat the heat!

Yelp
First, Cynthanea Jackson makes this tour AMAZING! Anyone can spit out facts. She delivers story after story with glorious flare and genuine enthusiasm for the area she has lived her entire life! When other riders would ask about eating here or staying there, she was an encyclopedia of information! Get on HER Trolley and ride it the whole way, then, and only then, consider hopping off at a destination! Thanks for an amazing experience Cynthanea! My daughter and I LIVED touring your city! Most Sincerely, Dayla

Yelp
I recommend this highly to first timers and not so first timers. TIP the driver. Make sure to pay attention it's a little fast!!

Yelp
DON'T DO IT! KEEP YOUR MONEY! The trolleys are meant to be hop on, hop off- we were told by the Trolley office. However, we purchased a two day pass and only rode the trolley a handful of times. We were at stop seven and four trolleys passed us by without even stopping to give those on an opportunity to exit and those waiting an opportunity to get on. Every driver acted like they did not even see us standing there. My husband called the trolley station four times to inquire the reason why they were not stopping to allow people to get off and us to get on and they did not have an answer for him, but just replied, "They are supposed to stop at every stop." They definitely do not do that! Finally, the last time that my husband talked with someone, they told him the reason why they weren't stopping is because, even though it's meant to be hop on, hop off, a lot of people don't get off the trolley, and therefore the trolley stays full. The lady proceeded to tell him that that is their number one complaint is that customers buy tickets and they don't have much of an opportunity to actually ride the trolleys because they stay full. Perhaps people do not ever get off buds to the fact the drivers do not stop at every stop!? You can also waste a lot of time standing there waiting for the trolley because there will be times that it will take them 20 to 30 minutes to get to your stop! As far as the tour part goes, it depends on who your tour guide is as to whether or not you can understand what they're even saying! Overall, we definitely would not recommend! Also, please note, there are absolutely no refunds! The last ticket lady told my husband that we could go online and request a refund since that is customer's number one complaint, however, when I went online to try to request a refund, it did not even give me that option and says that because my tickets are active, I cannot get a refund. Save your money and take an Uber if you need to get from place to place! If you do decide to take the trolley, do not sit up front as the bus fumes are unbearable.

Yelp
Sues was an EXCELLENT tour guide on the trolley!! Five stars for Sues -- but when her ride was over & we hopped off & on at different places -- the other guides weren't up to Sues standards!

Yelp
I love that I was able to leave my cat in my RV with AC at the campground. The trolley picked me up at the campground at 9 am, and dropped me off around 4:30 PM. It enabled me the assurance of my cat's safety while I toured Savannah. The seats are not comfortable, but everything else is good.

Yelp
The ONLY part of this place that was good was our tour guide "Jared" he was insanely optimistic, entertaining, energetic, and was the best part of Savannah, If it wasn't for him I would have rated it one star, 45 minute wait times and no fans for horrible heat, he was good enough that it made the heat barrable, if I come again and do this place again I would have to personally request Jared, he deserves a raise and much more. P.S. I went on 4 different tour buses with 4 different tour guides.

Yelp
What a complete disaster! Trolley was so crowded at each stop we couldn't get on. After finally getting the last 2 seats at Lucas theater stop (Stop 10), we thought we'd be able to ride the route. No chance! After running a red light and having driver make fun of endangering 30 people, we were dropped at History Museum to wait for another trolley but alas! That trolley was full. Caused us to miss Mercer house. A complete money grab rip off at nearly $100.

Yelp
Hop on hop off trolley with live historical and local insight? Yes, please. We rode with Meagan, Pops and Capt. Phil. All were excellent sources of info and we got something different from each one. Love that it's not a totally canned speech. We had an amazing day using this service!
