Olduvai Gorge Museum

Located in middle of Serengeti plains. Cool breeze passes through the structure despite the heat I. Afternoon even without AC. The small cafe/restaurant at the place is good for relaxing a bit after a long drive across the ngongoro conservation area. There are mongoose families near by which make you feel enchanted. Amazing collection of evolution of the mankind and his journey to use tools. Do go only if you are interested in the history of evolution of mankind.

Visited Olduvai Gorge on a Tanzania trip—mind-blowing if you're into human history. The museum has real fossils and tools from early humans, and the guides explain everything so well. Standing where our ancestors walked millions of years ago gave me chills. It's remote, but the views over the gorge are epic. Super educational and worth the detour if you're in the Serengeti area.

Very interesting place, greeted by two enormous skulls, comparing the first known humans to "handy man" human. It is possible to travel farther into the site and see the first human footprint every discovered. There's a few drinks for sale from a vendor outside and bathrooms in generally good/clean order.

What an amazing day. Rose and I stopped here as part of our Ultimate Kiliminjaro safari. I really wasn't very interested because I had read and watched so much about this crater of life, I thought I pretty much knew the story...man was I wrong. We had an amazing young tour guide and Tony our safari guide served an amazing hot lunch...but the real kicker was we met Masaki Paulo who heads the facility. He happened to be resting lunch by himself, so we invited him over...and for the cost of a banana and a glass of juice, he spent 45 minutes giving us a detailed 1 on 1 history of the cradle of life from the Leakey's to the work of Cal, Indiana, Perugia and more today. Thank you Masaki!

Amazing museum. Enjoyed the way things were layed out.

We stopped here on our way to Serengeti National Park. The exhibits were well prepared and the facilities were nice after a long drive. We did a walk down into the gorge to see where the fossils and bones were found starting in the 1950's. The walk was nice for the exercise, but there was really nothing to except a post marking the site. We ate our lunch in the shady gathering area and enjoyed the view from the pavilion. Probably worth a stop just to break up the drive.

This was my favorite spot we stopped in Tanzania! The history is incredible, and the views of the archaeological site are out of this world. The tour guide provided just the right amount of guidance and context, and then let us explore the exhibits on our own. The exhibits themselves were well laid out and very informative. So worth the stop to learn more about our history!

Was a great stop between Serengeti and Ngoro Ngoro, learnt some basic information about evolution but it was just more an experience to be where a lot of the excavations happened!
