The area is free to enter and has rotating exhibitions. Today we saw the works of Jaime Barrera, a local artist who depicts the abstract landscapes of Iceland in his exhibition Islandia - Terra Incógnita. Jaime is incredibly talented, particularly in the use of textures and colour pallets. Be sure to sign the guest book upon entry and there are free public toilets on site. Barrera's exhibition will continue to be on showcase until April 2025.

We went to see the Matisse exhibit at this facility. It was not busy, was very well laid out, air conditioned, and free admission. It was part of Merida's birthday celebrations, I believe it is here for three months, very worthwhile to see. You are allowed to take pictures but not with a flash.

This is a great museum, with multiple exhibits showing modern art of different types of art media. I'm so glad I visited, it's definitely worth checking out!

Wonderful exhibit by Marc Chagall. Make sure you see all the exhibit halls. They are not marked.

A nice building to visit when you're in Merida. From Saturday through Monday there are performances in front of the building (For free). Just be there on time to have a chair. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Yelp
Not to slight the art in any way whatsoever, one great reason to visit the Centro Cultural De Mérida Olimpo art museum is that the three galleries comprising this museum are air-conditioned. For the entire time I have been on the Yucatán Peninsula, there has been a persistent strong southeast wind pumping heat and humidity into the area from the Caribbean Sea, and a/c is worth its weight in gold. Very different than January 2005 when I was here and it was clear and dry. Admission is free. Photos without flash are allowed. Olimpo displays the recent work of regional artists. Much of the work was created at the arts center of Pátzcuaro. Plan on taking about an hour to visit all three galleries.
