Olive Grove, Windhoek, Namibia - Explore & Book

"Eros numbers amongst Windhoek's best-heeled areas, a leafy suburb that catches the breezes which blow in from the surrounding savannah. An easy stroll from the city centre's shops and monuments and close to some of its best restaurants, this small guesthouse has long since won its laurels for being a secure and comfortable bolthole for business folk and travellers alike. Olive Grove's covered dining patio is the heart of the matter: the quality of the food and fine wines are all you'd expect, and more, of a small guesthouse. Additional treats come in the form of a small pool, a rooftop Jacuzzi and an in-house Wellness. Backed by consistently good care from its young staff, it's a cosy home atmosphere. The mood is engagingly informal and there are plenty of shaded spots to hunker down with a book: if you're beginning or ending your Namibian odyssey in Windhoek, make sure Olive Grove figures high on your list of places to stay. Google
It was a decent place for a dine-in. Great option for chicken and sea-food. They asked for extra charge for removing chicken from the chicken shrimp pasta. Which was a bit weird. The taste was delicious though. We also ordered French onion soup. French onion soup was okay but the flavor didn't hit the marks.

Google
Our first time in Baltimore and the desk clerk suggested the Olive Grove. I had one of the most memorable crab cakes. The service was exactly what it should be. I hope to be back someday.

Google
Been years and was close by so ordered carry-out. Yes, prices has gone up, but that's everywhere. forgot just how good the crab cake is. Wow. This is after eating some off both sides. Enjoy them!

Google
Such a nice surprise. I didn’t know that this little restaurant even existed. It was an awesome find. Lovely atmosphere, great setup, location and food. Quick swecis from friendly attendants. We definitely will be back.

Google
The crab cakes are enormous and delicious. Their vegetable display is always plentiful and appetizing. Great bread sticks and salad. They offer both plated and buffet service depending on your budget. I visited for a monthly event in their private, dual meeting and event spaces offering current technology features such as a drop down screen, projector, HDMI hook ups, power sources, and a podium with microphone. This venue also offers plenty of free parking. The event serving staff are attentive and friendly. Great place for events, meetings and celebrations!

Google
This is a hidden gem, off many visitor paths. The service is always good & the food quality exceeds the service. It's quiet & a bit remote for visitors staying downtown, but it's worth the trip. Not fancy, but very nice. Well-behaved children are welcome.

Valentine’s Day was packed and we were seated within 15 minutes with no reservations. Our service was great. Looking forward to going back for my favorite seafood fettuccine.

I am currently 8 months pregnant and We chose to eat here after getting married at the court house with 15 family and friends. The waiter did a good job but all the food came out at different times so we all ate separately, my best friends husbands food was extremely cold and had to be sent back. I got the most expensive thing on the menu the Seafood combo and the crab cake tasted ok but when I got to the middle it was soggy and under cooked, the shrimp were rubber, the scallops were rubber and not edible, and the lobster tail was so dry I couldn’t even cut it. My 3 year old was so excited for seafood she picked at it and accepted the terrible flavor. I asked for the manager and he said “you ate half of it” I responded no my 3 year old who is also eating off of everyone’s plate ate some of it but majority is still on the plate minus half the crab cake until I got to the soggy center. The manager replied again you ate half so I’ll take half off and that’s it. Did not offer something else, did not offer a complimentary piece of cake for us just getting married and having a not so good experience, nothing. Not to mention the ceiling was moldy and the bathrooms were disgusting. I will never eat here again and do not recommend. This was an awful after marriage experience and I am very disappointed… that was a lot of gusts and there was a lot of money spent for this kind of service.

Yelp
A group of us went to dinner - family. We called ahead to prepare them for our group of 13. Crab cakes were really good not a ton of filler. The servers were attentive and really fast with our requests. We had a great time.

Yelp
Been here many times but it's been a couple of years. Sad to say this time was the worst. Had an overcooked steak and a crab cake that tasted off. I've had crab cakes here a couple years ago and has always been great but this time it was bad. Now the service was the worst I've ever seen. Drink refills was almost impossible even tho the table next to me seem to get all our server's attention. I rarely ever give a bad tip but sorry, our server Tim didn't deserve a good tip. Maybe next time don't walk past us 5x before asking about a refill. FYI there wasn't a lot of customers so can't blame it on that.

Yelp
The Olive Grove came highly recommended by employees of the Hotel that I'm staying at. They gave excellent advice. The portions are enough for two but I'm greedy so it was enough for me. All of the entrees come with unlimited bread sticks and a fresh salad bowl with grated cheese. I was smart, I only ate one bread stick because I wanted to have room for my entree. I ordered the fried corn nuggets and it came with a dipping sauce that was really good. I also had the crab cakes with pasta. The crab cakes were large and was fill with chunks of crabmeat. Excellent flavor, very firm and definitely very tasty. For my cocktail I tried the Peach Moscow Mule - drink was interesting but I think the Peach over powered the ginger beer or vice versa. All on in all it was worth the trip and I would definitely go back.

Yelp
I've heard great things about the food here. Especially the crab cakes! We were seated as soon as we walked in. We enjoyed all of the food we ordered. The servings are generous and we had food to take home. I am looking forward to returning to this restaurant to try some of their Italian dishes.

Yelp
Tried this place out due to a recommendation from a colleague. I believe he said the owner of this restaurant was related (brother?) of G&Ms. So of course I had to try their crab cakes. I got the land and sea and enjoyed it. I think G&M had a similar/same item on their menu. Really liked that this place also gave you a salad and bread sticks with the order. Yippie! The crab cake seemed a bit smalller but it could be my memory playing tricks on me. I ordered take out so I didn't get the eating there experience. But since pick up is at the bar, I did experience the ambience briefly and it was not super great. Will continue visiting off and on to see if things are different in the future.

Yelp
The food was ok, it use to be my favorite spot for crab cakes. The waiter was excellent. The food was slow getting to the table. You don't get free salad anymore. We ordered a large salad and shared. The restaurant has been updated, but nothing to write home about. There wasn't a crowd it was around lunch time. Several people went to the restaurant area where the bar is located. I don't think I'll be going back after this visit. Sorry I don't have pictures of the meal.

Khadijat R.

Yelp
This restaurant was ok. You can tell that there are repeat customers and there's space in the back for large parties. I was there for a family meetup and there were 21 of us including 3 children. I had a crab cake and loaded baked potato. I received the wrong side with a prompt apology (before I mentioned the wrong item) and a loaded baked potato cake out about half way through my crab cake. There was lump crab meat and it was decent. I wouldn't go back for it, but I didn't complain either. I've never had a baked potato with nacho cheese on it and I wasn't expecting that. It felt a little cheap and took away some class. The restaurant could use upgrades. Everything is pretty worn. The chairs are uncomfortable too. That's it really. Not much to look at. Not much of a welcoming ambiance. Decent food.

Yelp
I wasn't impressed nor disappointed but Timbuktu is close why even go here? And G&M for that matter ..... my drinks were just ok and my food was just ok .... Nothing was good enough to talk about .... Parking was easy .... They do have private rooms for parties that's good to know and Buffett type options .... But I'll never say let's go to the olive grove lol for what? I have 4 stars because it wasn't that bad but there's comparable places around that's better. Oh my mom had to send her bowl of cream no crab soup back :-( dont be making my mom unhappy I don't play about her. Our waiter was great the room was super cold. My cousin booked a large reservation we waited almost an hour to get seated tho.

Yelp
From as far back as I can remember (at least 20yr) this restaurant served amazing food, service was always great. The last time we were here was May 2018, the service was great, crabcakes divine. Since moving from the area in 2015, we came thru today during our Thanksgiving travels and stopped in. I cannot say enough about this experience. Manicotti was cold on the ends and the middle, I can never, ever, recommend the mealy-meat crabcake again. But what lacked the most was service, understanding of basic English language and most importantly, cleanliness. Sadly, another jewel has turned to dust. And even more sadly, the ownership and/or management clearly doesn't care.

Ryan B.

Yelp
The Olive Grove is awesome! Their Fettuccine Alfredo is especially delectable, and their French Onion Soup is superb. Their chefs are always so prompt to prepare the food as well. Order from here & you won't be disappointed!

Janet P.

Yelp
Really GOOD foods and large servings. Nice quiet intimate atmosphere because the dining room not crowded together. Great waiters formally dressed. Wonderful place for a date or quiet meal together.
google avatar

Sharawn A.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but the service was poor food quality has diminished but not surprisingly the prices have risen you now have to pay for the salad before your meal and that wasn't good so sorry to say I will not be going back

J D.

Yelp
Food portions are significantly smaller. Stale bread. No more free salad with entree. A favorite place for 30 years. Won't be back
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
Ordered the seafood fettuccine and fried calamari. Food was excellent and was a huge portion. The salad and bread sticks were also great! The problem was the slow service. My food was supposed to be finished but wasn't ready for another 20 minutes. They even have you text when you arrive, which I did, and they told me it would be out on time, but it wasn't. I had to call the restaurant after waiting 20 more minutes and they finally brought it out.
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
Can't get in to G&M? This place is not a great alternative. Wait for G&M. Looking for something less flashy with a little less quality? Come over here.
google avatar

Stuart H.

Yelp
I drove 30 minutes to pick up my food. All I got was a salad with dressing on the side and a soup and they didn't even include the dressing. Great salad without their dressing huh? Sometimes some people in this world will actually start to check what they do instead of not caring about anything.

Yelp
The OG has been around for a long time. The food and service is a hit-or-miss but the last few years we've experienced 'the miss', more often than the hit. When it is a hit, the food is excellent, hot, flavorful, and the experience is over the top. When it's a miss the food is either flavorless or barely warm, or the food is good but the service is sub-par with either an inattentive server or a great server managing enough tables for three servers. A few months ago I ordered the Chicken & Shrimp Alfredo and it was fantastic. This last visit the same dish wasn't really hot, had no flavor (bland) and the shrimp were like chewing an eraser, very rubbery. Generally the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is good. There is a large room in the back, which can be partitioned, for large or separate parties.

Yelp
This review is for their private banquet functions. We attended a large family birthday party dinner, with over 30 people. They are nicely set up in the rear of the restaurant with several spaces for private parties. There was a very pleasant server who took our drink orders and directed us to the appetizer table (crackers, a cheese tray, fruit plate & veggies). Then he brought out a bowl of salad and breadsticks for the table. The dinner was served as a buffet, and the food was excellent. They served stuffed shrimp and crabcakes. Both were generous portions and very tasty. They also had rice, vegetables, etc. For dessert, there was a selection of cakes. The server came around often to collect plates and refresh drinks. It was a lovely party.

Yelp
Very disappointed with my visit. I ordered the lemon butter flounder and it was anything but. The amount of grease on my plate was sickening. The fish was fishy. I could not finish it. I did not make a fuss or send it back as it took a while to receive it in the first place. This place use to be so premier now I hesitate to recommend them to my out of town friends. I also had a loaded baked potato which was covered heavily in cheese wiz. Instead of the sour cream on top it came on the side for me to squeeze it out. NOT A FAN. I strayed away from my normal go to crab cake which has always been on point but I wanted something different. I will also say this is the first time I have gone and had a bad meal... but it only takes one. Tighten up OG!

Yelp
Amazing crab cake: mostly lump, not filler. Great size and great flavor. I will be back!!!

Mark M.

Yelp
One of our favorite places. Excellent crab cakes and Italian offerings. The salad and bread sticks are a welcome part of the meals.
google avatar

Yelp
That is one tasty crab cake! Very unassuming establishment and what a find!! Great service at the bar
google avatar

Bryan G.

Yelp
It's a good place in general for soup And salad.., 4 stars. But, darn they are just running us through there and it's not like the old days

Fran I.

Yelp
Good food needs good service to make the event complete and pleasurable. Both were fantastic today. What even made it more special was I left behind my Alpaca scarf. When I called, everyone was cordial and accommodating. They are sending my scarf through the mail, because I live a distance in Pennsylvania. But I eat at this restaurant at least two times a year when I come to this area. Thank you all for making my day!
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. Sometimes the food can be on point and other times it can be a miss. This visit a miss to me. Service was pretty good and quick. They bring the table out a healthy portion of salad. I just wish they wouldn't put the dressing on themselves especially if you want to take some food with you. My main course was the Fruit of the Sea which contains shrimp, scallops, crab meat and mussels over noodles and a lemon sauce. The seafood was cooked perfectly and tasted good. It was the sauce and noodles that was missing the flavor. They both tasted real bland and could have been seasoned better. Maybe the next visit will be a hit for me.

Mary Ellen R.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Very professional staff. Relaxing atmosphere. Enjoyed the food too!

Yelp
Delicious crab cakes!! This was my first Maryland crab cake and I visited after being recommended by a local. I like how they have unlimited salad and breadsticks. The salad ingredients were very fresh but the breadsticks were on the drier side. The crab cake itself has so much flavor and I enjoyed it a lot! I loved being able to see the pieces of scallop in the crab cake. It was a lot of food so I had leftovers for lunch the next day.

Liam S.

Yelp
"Awful Food & Service" The food was poor quality! The Barmaids were Pure White Trash and Filthy. Scratching their hair and face, then making peoples drinks. Nasty!!! My husband at the crab cake and was sick All Night Long! "Don't Waste Your Time Folks!"
google avatar

Stefanie B.

Yelp
Eh...the food was just ok. The service was on point though! Very nice lady! I wouldn't eat here again though. I came with coworkers less than a month ago and I honestly can't even remember what I ate. Maybe fried shrimp?? Whatever it was, it didn't stand out.

Bill S.

Yelp
We have been to this restaurant many times before, and tonight we went with a family group of nine adults, a four-year-old, and a toddler. Because of our group size, we were seated in a back room where there were several large tables, just to accommodate larger groups. One of the adults was our daughter, visiting from North Carolina, who HAS to have a real Maryland crab cake every time she comes here. OG is always the place we take her because their crab cakes are the equal of, or better than, any other restaurant. They also have great Italian food and a delicious variety of sandwiches and entrées. An additional plus about Olive Grove is their consistently excellent service. Tonight, our server Mony (sp?) managed the entire dinner with superb professionalism, in addition to being very friendly. He seemed to show up at just the right time - without hovering - through the whole meal. Olive Grove once again showed that they deserve a 5-star rating for both food and service. Ambiance? That's not why we came here, anyway.

Ronald L.

Yelp
The food was just OK. Salad was good but most of the entrees were bland. Used to be a crowded restaurant. The place was empty of a beautiful Sunday night.
google avatar

Aurisha S.

Yelp
Has the soup and salad! I tried the cream of cream soup but it's way too creamy and no crab. I sent it back and had the soup of the day which was chicken noodle. It was very good and not a lot of noodles which I liked. The salad was delicious. The bread sticks were good too.
google avatar

Nes L.

Yelp
It was okay. Crab cakes were too expensive. Had a hamburger instead. It was terrible.
google avatar

Ron A.

Yelp
It took us talking to four people, including the night manager, to finally get someone to take our order, and when we finally talked with someone to express our frustration, they talked to us with an impatient attitude. We had to wait over an hour for our food, and when we got back to the hotel, we found that we did not receive the correct order. I ordered a Mediterranean angel hair pasta with no chicken. I received it with chicken. My wife ordered a new York Strip, medium rare. She got a rare with gristle. We were surprised that they claim to have the best sauce in the United States, which I find hard to believe. They also claim that they were rated in the top 1% by Zagat. I also find this hard to believe. Clearly, this is not a restaurant we will support based on the "customer service" we received, and the lack of attentiveness to our requests.

Karin D.

Yelp
We've come here occasionally for many years, and it's been consistently good. We've always felt the crabcakes are some of the best in the area, and this time did not disappoint. The crab soup was superior, and I really enjoyed my shrimp salad sandwich. Fries were excellent. Our server Miguel was very professional. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Carrie N.

Yelp
We came here for dinner while in town for work. I feel kind of bad because my co-worker really didn't enjoy his food. Mine was ok, nothing to write home about but not bad either. This Olive Grove is the 2nd cousin to the Olive Garden up to and including all you can eat salad and breadsticks. I was not aware that it was served family style though. When we ordered I asked that the dressing for my salad be served on the side. The waiter who seemed to barely speak English nodded just to return with a heavily dressed family style salad. Not worth addressing. I also ordered a cup of Maryland Crab cause when in Rome. Highly disappointed in this selection. It had the essence of crab, namely the essence of ocean with minute shreds of crab no thicker than pieces of string. Hardly the spicy and delicious with lump Crab Meat and fresh vegetables, the menu claims it to be. Nope heated ocean water with thawed frozen veggies and string like pieces of crab. For dinner I ordered the Orange Roughy and a baked potato. The portion was very nice. The fish was a little overcooked and too much butter for my liking but overall was A-Okay. I actually chose this place based off a menu that they posted online advertising lobster as one of their specials but that was clearly an out of date menu as Sole was their actual special of the day. The costs were a little high for the type of establishment, knock off Olive Garden, but overall it did the job.
google avatar

Mia D.

Yelp
The Olive Grove has been a consistent great restaurant for years. From the crab cakes to the pasta. Always excellent. We had a party of 9 including a wheelchair and they accommodated us perfectly. Our waiter was exceptional and the food was tasty. To start a large salad and breadsticks were served. The crab cakes are colossal with lump meat and seasoned perfectly. Not too much or too little seasoning. 2 of our group ordered the seafood Alfredo. Large shrimp, scallops and crab filled the plate. It was enough for two. No matter if your a party of one or 21 you will have an excellent dining experience.
google avatar

Erik B.

Yelp
The Olive Grove is an Olive Garden by another name. The service was really poor and so was the food. The server seemed to be occupied with everything but our table and order. My son ordered a vegan dish, Mediterranean Style Angel Hair without Chicken and it arrived with chicken. We bought a bottle of wine for dinner and the server couldn't figure out how to use a cork screw and open the bottle and actually asked my son to open it. I got the northern sampler and the veal and chicken were okay but tough. My wife ordered the small glass of sangria and the large was delivered. Mistakes on the orders and lackadaisical service makes this place worth a drive by to another place.

Debbie G.

Yelp
Two of us visited on July 5, 2023, for a late lunch. Let me say from the start that all staff we interacted with were lovely to us. No complaints at all and brava to them! We ordered the following: crab dip, OG's Supreme Seafood, and stuffed shrimp. And we also had the salad. The salad and dip were good. I thought the stuffed shrimp were fine. The seafood platter was a big disappointment. It had no flavor at all. It was to be in lemon wine sauce - but had no flavor at all. The scallops were cold, the crab cake very dry, and the shrimp were quite literally, tasteless. We took everything we didn't eat to go but ended up throwing it away. Again, the service was excellent and our gratuity reflected her level of service but not the food.

Yelp
Olive Grove catered my son and new daughter in laws wedding at Quite Waters in Annapolis on 9/24/23. The food was delicious had three family members come in from out of town and couldn't stop taking about how delicious the crab cakes were. The servers were polite and well informed. Would recommend A+

Yelp
This use to be a great place for Italian food! well I sure was disappointed in my Veal Marsal and Shrimp scampi and No flavor Fettuccine. I couldn't even cut the veal with my knife and the Fettuccine was bland. my husband ate his eggplant Parmesan but he told me it wasn't that great. I know cost have gone up but if you can't serve quality why bother! Never again.

Yelp
my wife was retiring from tower federal credit union after 35 years and i wanted to give her a retirement party/luncheon it was 42 friends and relatives . spiro worked with us and i HAVE TO SAY SAY WE WERE OVERJOYED . all the guest went home with left overs and 100% happiness . the wait staff was awesome the owner stopped in after his soccer match to check on everything. the selections that were available were awesome and along with the cheese and veggie platter fresh fruit at the start of the event, desert was available and the guests were allowed to choose what they wanted from main dish to the dessert we spend over 2300.00 and it was well worth it .next year in 2026 when the wife turns 70 we will do it again .don't let the price we paid scare you it was well worth it . private spacious dinning room crab cakes ,stuffed shrimp, steak or chicken baked potato vegies bread sticks soda ice tea ( alcohol was extra but reasonable

Yelp
Stole items when we were rudely told to leave at closing time. For got items when we went back no one was there and the next day amnesia set in.

Yelp
Came here to grab a feast for Mother's Day. The process couldn't have been easier. I placed my order online and paid for it. They even offered a coupon code for placing orders in advance that way. I saved $16! After a short wait (in a line that observed proper social distancing practices)I was able to grab my food and head on my way. Everything was correct and cooked to perfection. My only bit of constructive criticism...my cheesecake was packed right in between piping hot crab dip and a crab cake platter. I was worried about it getting overheated and melty so I took it out of the bag for the drive home. The experience was top notch though! Can't wait to go back!

Patty H.

Yelp
We brought our USS Hamner DD-718 group to Olive Grove for our annual reunion lunch. Everyone loved the food. Our waiter,Luiz, was terrific. The patio is a great place to get together safely with all the fresh air around you. We will be back next year! (And I will be back as many times as I can!)
google avatar

Becca H.

Yelp
I got the stuffed flounder (flounder stuffed with crab imperial) and green beans. The flounder was cooked nicely and was flaky, but the fish or the crab didn't have a lot of flavor. The green beans were slightly over cooked and under seasoned. The service was great though! I'd give them another shot.

CC C.

Yelp
The quality of the food & service seems to have taken a downward turn @ Olive Grove. I used to love this place & have brought new diners there on multiple occasions over the years. However, when I dined there on 1/5/24, I didn't have a great experience. When I arrived, the hostess was at the host stand eating a salad. I don't believe I've ever witnessed anyone openly eating at a host stand before at any restaurant. I ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter & my flounder was not fully cooked. In fact, the thicker portion of the filet still appeared to be raw. I asked for another piece & it arrived just a few minutes later in the exact same condition. At that point, I asked to speak with a manager. The server began offering me other menu replacement options, as though he was avoiding getting a manager. I declined the offerings & continued to request a manager. The server eventually relented & sent over a manager. When the manager arrived, I explained that this was my second undercooked flounder filet & I hadn't taken a bite of either piece. At first, he tried to convince me that it was, in fact, cooked, then he suddenly pivoted & said they had no control over how fish cooked under the broiler. Huh? He then offered to replace the fish with fried shrimp. When I said no thank you, he offered a few more times & kept repeating, "Are you sure? I think you'd like it.", trying to convince me that the fried shrimp was very good. I informed him that I'd specifically ordered a broiled platter; not fried. At that point, he agreed to take the flounder off my bill, amounting to -$8. I should also mention that the scallops on my platter were a bit rubbery as well, but I did eat them. Earlier in the day, when I told a friend that I was planning to go to Olive Grove that evening since I had business in the area, my friend told me "the service has really gone down there." I went anyway since I really like the establishment & hadn't been in some months. I'm hoping this was an isolated, unpleasant experience & may give Olive Grove one more shot in the future. We'll see...

Yelp
Some of the best crab cakes I've had!! I love the size of it and you seem to get your monies worth, for sure. Abdul was our server and he was decent. My fam wasn't expecting the crab cakes to be filled with so much real crab, not imitation crab...haha! The salad was pretty good and has just the right amount of dressing. The bread was ok, they were semi overcooked and not enough flavor.
