Avoid at all costs.
I had a disappointing and frustrating experience with Olive Tree Hostel that I feel compelled to share with future travelers. This hostel operates with questionable cancellation policies and poor customer communication, which led to unexpected charges and a lack of accountability.
First, the hostel claimed they had “no record” of my timely cancellation call, despite the fact that I followed the procedure well in advance. When I reached out to confirm my cancellation, they assured me the booking was canceled—only to later deny our conversation and charge me in full for my stay.
Their cancellation policy is also misleading. Although I canceled within the window for part of my booking, they still charged me for the entire stay, including nights that should have fallen within the refundable period. This means that unless you cancel every single night, you’ll be charged, even if you’re well within the stated cancellation terms. Their policy effectively penalizes guests for booking consecutive nights—a sneaky loophole that makes refunds nearly impossible.
Furthermore, the information they provided over the phone and in emails was contradictory. Initially, they claimed that my deposit went to Hostelworld and not to them, only to later state that it was part of their policy. This inconsistency made it clear they were unwilling to communicate transparently or fairly resolve the issue.
Overall, Olive Tree Hostel’s approach feels both sneaky and dishonest. If you’re considering staying here, I’d advise you to look elsewhere. With their unfair policies, lack of accountability, and conflicting information, it’s not worth the risk of unexpected charges. Avoid this hostel at all costs to save yourself the hassle and frustration I experienced.
