My Government-Mandated Quarantine at a Five-Star Hotel

"Housekeeping services were suspended during her stay, but she could call down to the front desk for laundry detergent or even extra towels, which would be left outside her door. And the food, Sendler says, was quite tasty. Meals arrived three times per day in pre-packaged containers, bundled in a paper bag; hotel staff would drop one at the door, each equipped with a doorbell that they rang to alert the quarantined guest inside."

The room was clean and pretty, the bed was very comfortable, the food was delicious, and the service was friendly. We had a wonderful stay here with very fond memories made back in September 2023 and would definitely stay here again.

Where to start? Our room was from the 1950’s and felt very dusty and had a very strong smell. We also didn’t have enough towels for everyone and we were told there weren’t any available. The lobby is very dark, and they kept turning off the AC in the lobby and in the dining room while there were two Shabbat Chatan with over 200 people sweating and suffering from the heat. To add to everything, one of the owners of the hotel came and screamed at us, told us our children were animals and we didn’t know how to educate them, then looked at my sister screamed at her telling her to not even look at him! Not sure where this person is but this is Israel not Afghanistan, women have rights!!

We enjoyed our three nights here; the hotel is in an excellent location, within walking distance of the old city. I think we were in one of the rooms that is awaiting renovation — I have no complaints about it, but it did seem in need of updating. Overall, it was a pleasant place to stay and does a good job of offering the services you expect in this type of hotel.

A lot of the hotels are putting in these beautiful, but very impracticable showers with glass enclosures that are only half the length they should be. Even when you’re very careful, the floor outside the shower base is as wet as inside. It’s ridiculous and can cause slipping and falling. This is one such hotel.

Olive tree hotel - i came here with a group for 4 days in May’25. The group leader said this was a 5-star hotel, but I’d see that for European standards it’s 3-star at best: - room ample for double-occupancy, but superdusty —if you suffer allergies be ready to sneeze & cough - Bathtub rusty - No reg coffee sachettes in room (only decaf coffee & tea) - Left a hanger on the bed before leaving room. Found it on the floor when i returned - Only 1 coffee machine in breakfast room for over 150-200 pax - I had to “repair” breakfast coffee machine (empty trash container) bcs staff would not do it —so we would not have coffee - In any case, machine coffee seems to be decaf, because after 4 shots of espresso, you can still not feel the kick - Only “warm” (room temp) red wine at table for meals. If u want white wine you have to ask x it & the petition needs to go up the waiters’ ladder to be approved (it takes a few minutes) - other than that, staff friendly & helpful Now for pros…. - Close to the old city , 15 mins walk to Damascus Gate - 4 good elevators, ample & fast ; 1 regular during shabbat hours - Working air con - bathroom water pressure very good - Room gets done everyday & towels/toiletries refreshed —but obviously not dusted/vacuum - Good & abundant breakfast & meals
