"Sequestered on a quiet stretch of the North-West Maui coast, Olivine Pools are volcanic tide pools best known for their secluded swimming spots and dramatic wave breaks. With very few commercial shops or vendors around, the area still feels like a hidden spot. There's a decently marked half-mile out-and-back trail that meanders through this area and provides some great views and photo ops. If you choose to go for a swim or a float in one of the pools—which you absolutely should—steer clear of ones that have waves crashing into them." - Todd Plummer

Super cool spot but very difficult drive out to Thai area. Definitely do not go late in the day. The area has beautiful tide pools but be careful because the waves can come in at any point and sweep you away. There’s tons of gorgeous views and marine life. Be sure to be respectful of the land and water.

Beautiful cliff veiws. There is a trail until you get to the lava rocks. The rocks are jagged so shoes are recommended. The last third of the hike down is rock hopping. There is a safety flotation device on site but no life gaurd. Swim at your own risk. Be aware of the tides and your surroundings.

Beautiful hike and tide pools. It's an amazing once in a lifetime experience. I've never been to a more beautiful place. Definitely read all of the warnings in other comments before going. - don't go if there's a storm that day - rocks get very slippery when wet - where the correct shoes both in and out of the water bring 2 pairs - research tide times and make sure to go during low tide. - if the waves are big don't go to the pools. You can get pulled into the ocean. - if you're a tourist rent a car to get there and back. There is almost no signal here and nearest town is 30 minutes. - Listen to mother nature. - many people have died here. - do NOT bring kids or pets

Beautiful area. Came on a cold, windy day, but it was still gorgeous to see the rocky cliffside. Road is one way and fairly treacherous to get here, but that's part of the experience. There are lots of warnings about the pools, and I understand why. The pools are made out of lava rock, which could lead to a bad day if you come at the wrong time or see the wrong wave. Overall, it's very safe, and it's just as dangerous as any other beach shore. Swim in the pools at your own peril. I'd rather view the pools and swim at other beaches that aren't full of lava rocks. It's worth a drive to see the cliffs.

Pay attention to the GPS as you will just pull off the road where there is some dirt parking. Follow the trail and you can make your way down to the pools. Sharp rocks so make sure to wear shoes. The pools are super clear on a sunny day. Be careful when walking in the pools as there is mud and very slippery. Also pay attention to where you step as there are holes that are deep. Be smart and go during low tide and do not go where the waves are breaking.

This is incredible nature jewel is just before Mile Marker #16. Be aware! ~ the rode turns to 1 lane for miles. It’s tight and dangerous for 2 cars to pass. I would never drive after sunset here. ~ the hike is moderate (in my opinion) for a healthy person. Quick hike down toward the ocean to natural lava pool. ~ I wore hiking shoes and had water shoes to jump in the pool. ~ use caution visiting this site. Never go to edges on rocks and don’t turn your back to waves. ~ like the sign suggested ~I prayed and asked nature for permission to enter respectfully and protection to leave safely.

This has to be one of the most spectacular views ever. Not for small children or non-surefooted people. Short hike through rocks to beautiful, volcanic rock swimming pools. Definitely recommend seeing this. Absolutely gorgeous.

Spectacular views. I hiked down 1/2 way. One of us hiked down to pools. They liked the hike, but I am risk averse. If you’re okay with a brisk hike and don’t mind rocks and steep walks, then this is for you. Don’t leave valuables in car. Common sense types of stuff.
