I travelled to Kenya for the first time and stayed for 5 nights at Ololo Safari Lodge in Dec 24 as a solo traveler and boy oh boy, did I have a trip of a lifetime within those short few days. ||Firstly, the communication before my trip was terrific. I told them my flight details and they arranged transportation there and back and I was warmly and safely greeted from a night flight in a very comfortable car. As a solo traveler, little things like this are incredibly important as often airports can feel unsafe and stressful so this was fantastic. ||The accommodation itself is beautiful. I stayed in one of the tented rooms and the bed and pillows were lovely and soft with good quality linen, the shower was hot every day (sometimes unusual in some parts of Africa so should be appreciated) and the housekeeping was daily with a turn down service at night with water always being replaced etc. My favorite part of the room was my frequent visitors in the day time whilst I read a book on the balcony, monkeys, baboons, birds of all types, butterflies etc. In your downtime between game drives and meals etc, to be able to sit on the balcony area and have all this is very relaxing and enjoyable. (Please note you are protected from these animals coming into your room with a double zip system etc - nothing gets in!). No bugs either! 5 days here and not one mosquito bite or bug bite! Seeing monkeys play on a hammock or eating in the grasses was actually amazing when in the UK we don't see anything like this outside of a zoo!||The game drives are organised to perfection and I was often put in with the same people as in the morning or the day before so it gave me a real comfort factor as a solo traveler. The guides all are friendly, have a laugh with you, but are professional and knowledgeable and they pride themselves on being respectful to the animals whilst also getting you as close as they can. I saw pretty much everything everyday! Rhinos (black and white on many of the days I was there) giraffes galore, crocodiles, hippos (in and out of the water!) buffalo including little babys, lions sleeping and lucky to see them chomping on a kill! It was almost a sensory overload and days faded into one as there were just so many close encounters with every animal! No disappointments!||The food....I didn't want it to be good as I wanted to lose weight on holiday so this really annoyed me! I couldn't resist every meal as it was delicious! I still think about the eggs that were served and how golden the yolks were! Everything is farm to table and you think you won't notice the difference but you do! It is not basic food either, the chef's really go out of the way with diff recipes and to showcase their skills! I dream of the Tom Yum fish which was spicy and flavoursome without being overpowering! I tried quite a few things I would not normally try so it also encouraged me to choose a little out of my comfort zone. Every day there was choice which at other lodges on my trip I did not have so this was quite luxury. Everything is 3 courses so I had to resist a few times as I was just too full! You can wander around the farm and see all the work going into producing these delicious meals so it makes you appreciate it even more!||Staff was so so welcoming to me and looked after me well. A special shout out to Susan who had lovely conversations with me every day so I never felt lonely. She was a refreshing breath of fresh air and I really hope she achieves great things as she has a standout personality, so friendly, welcoming and approachable. Roy and Steve and Washington did a great job with excursion's and game drives! Terrific with their information and just easy to get along with. Steve was kind enough to take me out on a trip to the Sheldrick Trust and we had a good old chat on the way there and back! Fred the dog also deserves a shout out for being the most cuddly member of the team and every day was present wanting a little pet and a snuggle).||I had a fantastic time and I have nothing to complain at all about. It is a high class, luxury retreat with plenty of activity for those who want to embrace it with energy whilst also allowing down time and peace and quiet in between the bustle for sitting in sunshine reading etc.||The only one recommendation I would add (not critique but rather something I think could enhance) was I had a lovely massage during my stay but think a little music would have been ideal. It is a working farm so in my massage I did hear a lot of farm work and chatter almost right outside so a little hard to switch off so would recommend perhaps in the lovely massage hut, a CD player or something with some soothing music. As I said, not a downer at all, just felt this was one area perhaps a tip could help on. I get massages every holiday and this one was great, just a little noisey.||Thank you for such a delightful stay. It was everything I wanted and more!
