"Olowalu If you snorkel only once, make it at Olowalu, home to Maui's most diverse marine populations. Slap on some reef-friendly sunscreen and explore more than 100 acres of some of the healthiest coral structures in Hawaii. Watch manta rays and green sea turtles rock up to cleaning stations, or peer inside a nursery for blacktip sharks among the 500-year-old coral formations. Less of a swimmer? Then try a stable wide-bottomed ocean kayak for a different perspective. The tiny town also contains the island's best petroglyphs, as well as a haunted past: Here, trader Simon Metcalfe massacred more than a hundred innocent Hawaiians in 1790. This outrage spurred King Kamehameha I to defeat his neighbors, using Western weapons and tactics; after 20 years, he succeeded in unifying all Hawaii."
Nice protected Cove where you can easily get into snorkel. It was low tide when I was there, so many of the corals were close to the surface. Be careful not to touch them and watch out for sea urchins on the bottom. There is a rocky Beach but also a sand covered entryway where you can walk into the water easily.
If you're more experienced and swimming and snorkeling. This is a good place for a beginner.
We went there and there were very few people there so this was not a crowded place to be. Parking was free, and there are porta potties to use if you need to use the restroom.
There's a historic site there of an Old Sugar Factory as you enter the beach.

Narrow stretch of beach. No designated parking but plenty available just along the road, so you can park right in front of your beach spot for a much shorter gear haul than at many beaches. A fair number of trees for shade. We went for the snorkeling but were disappointed. Very easy entry because of stretches of sand between the rocks and coral. The visibility was good but just not many fish. We tried several stretches but maybe we just didn't find the right place? No sand showers or porta-potties--I guess they'd rather have people peeing in the ocean.

From here drive to Mile 14 marker and go to the beach off the highway. Water is very calm. Great for snorkeling. We saw sea turtles and a monk seal on the beach!

Great place to snorkel! It’s one of the oldest reefs in the islands and it definitely shows it in size and fish variety. The water is calm even out in the reef and you can find turtles if you’re lucky :)

This is one of my favorites beaches in Maui. Very rustic (loved it), no services at all, no restrooms, no restaurants, be prepared for a great pic nic beautiful day on the beach.

Great place for snorkeling. Almost no swells for us. Visibility was so so for snorkeling but we did see some fish and a few turtles. It is a rocky in the shallow shore line with a few sand bars that the kids enjoyed. The sand gets HOT so bring something to lay on. I mean REALLY HOT. The trees drop thorns so don’t go barefoot under them. The water temp here was amazingly warm. We loved it.

Great low key beach to snorkle. Not busy at all! Just be careful getting off the highway to park as there is no formal parking lot.

One of the best spots to snorkel on the island if going in the morning. You'll routinely see plenty of snorkel boats off the shore here. The water is usually incredibly calm--almost like a lake, at least in the Summer. It has seemingly endless coral gardens once you swim out a short way. I once found myself swimming out probably a half mile before I forced myself to turn around. Nowhere else on the island do I ever feel comfortable doing that!
Parking is super easy--just pull off the highway wherever you see a good spot, and then set up in front of your vehicle.
I would suggest the area that's right before the road turns into the shaded tree "tunnel," basically the area to stop before you come up on the camp grounds.
This was a hidden gem that you don't really see on guides, or at least they don't play up how awesome it is!
After you finish snorkeling, go get lunch at Leoda's Pie Shop.
