The Best 'Forgotten' U.S. Tourist Destinations

"Olympic Peninsula, in WA. Rainforest, hikes for days, beautiful coastline, and not very many people. Also some damn good local beer and cider. Of course visitors can always visit the national park that sits along the Olympic Peninsula, but this area also has plenty of other activities to take part in including heading down the Cider Route, which stops along various farms and distilleries." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Our road trip around the Olympic Peninsula was an incredible adventure that felt like visiting several different worlds in one day. We started in the Hoh Rain Forest, walking the Hall of Mosses trail under a green canopy of ancient trees covered in dripping moss—it was incredibly peaceful and almost magical. Next, we drove to Rialto Beach and hiked to the Hole-in-the-Wall at low tide, where we saw colorful starfish and anemones in the tide pools. The absolute highlight was Lake Crescent; the water was so clear and blue, and we spent a quiet afternoon just soaking in the stunning views.

Pretty foggy day and limited parking, but other than that there was a lot to explore and some cute photo ops

Wish there some more falls or I just didn’t see it :( but it was beautiful indeed.

Absolutely stunning and beautiful. It's amazing that our country has a national park like this.

Beautiful place you should visit, or don't. But you can see the almost-extinct Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus if you are here!

Gorgeous area that has so much to offer with breathtaking views, rain forests, wildlife, ancient trees and a rugged coastline. One of my favorite places in the country!

I have gone on many outings with my brothers and friends in my Boy Scout Troop 1549 to the forests in the peninsula over the past couple years since I joined, and I must recommend visiting Olympic National Park. You'll be able to hike on many good trails, such as Spruce Railroad, which is an easy trip by Lake Crescent and is a tradition in my troop. The most recent one we visited being Hurricane Ridge last weekend, during the major snowfall. The place is a great place to explore if you're an avid fan of hiking and camping.
