We came to celebrate a birthday and definitely want to come back for their uni toast! It was our fave thing off their tasting menu. Super friendly service and cute intimate interior. We’re happy to have tried it but have other restaurants downtown we love more!

Omai is an intimate sushi spot that seriously impresses. The quality of the fish is top-tier, and everything we tried was beautifully prepared and thoughtfully presented. The highlight was easily the fatty tuna—buttery, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Every bite felt like a treat. The sake tasting was a fun addition to the meal, offering a great variety of flavors to complement the sushi. Just a heads-up: while it’s meant for one, it’s definitely shareable between two people if you want to sample without going overboard. The atmosphere is warm and minimal, with a calm, focused energy that lets the food shine. Service was attentive and knowledgeable, helping guide us through the menu and sake choices without being overbearing. Overall, Omai delivers an elevated yet approachable sushi experience. It’s a great spot for a quiet date night or a special meal with a fellow sushi lover. Highly recommended.

Google
Great food, service and atmosphere! I’ve been coming to Omai for years and the quality has remained consistent and top notch. The tasting menu is a nice mix of various hot and cold dishes with good portions. Fish tastes extremely fresh. They recently renovated and are under new ownership, but many of the chefs are the same and the food quality was just as good, although there seems to be slightly less focus now on temakis (only 4 on the menu vs many more previously). Parking is available but tough to find on the street, but there are also green p lots and the hospital lot not far from here.

Google
A small cozy Japanese Omakase, they offer taste menu with sake pairing or you can choose a la cart . We tasting menu has 6 small dishes plus dessert, good enough for a meal not like others has 10 dishes (which I always think it is too much). Everything is so prefect except we choose the wrong day as it is heat alert in Toronto, the air conditioning is not good enough for a comfort dinner. Oh, reservations is highly recommended.

Google
This was my first time back here after they renovated/changed the tasting menu. The only thing I wished they had kept the same was the Wagyu dish. The fried potatoes on top were hard to eat and felt like an unnecessary garnish. Aside from that, everything else was very delicious - highly recommend adding on the Tuna Futomaki! Service could’ve also been better as it took a long time for us to place our order and servers were not as attentive compared to my experience last time.

The food here was mostly pretty good but we did have some scallops that were quite bitter. For the price I expect all the food to taste good so that was a disappointing experience. Given that this restaurant does serve a lot of raw seafood, the bitter scallops are mildly concerning. The servers did make it us to up though by providing additional Temaki is an alternative. Everything else we had was very delicious. Favorite item: Uni toast Least favorite: Scallop Kuromai (bitter scallops; usually I love scallops) Overall, things were pretty good. Would consider coming back but may skip on the tasting menu if it still has the Scallop Kuromai.

Google
Food 4/5 Service 3/5 Vibe 5/5 I had their taste menu for 95$. Portions are relatively smaller but flavor wasnt bad at all. I would say if you already know what dish you wanna try, go for à la carte, but if you’re indecisive, go for the tasting menu. For the sake tasting, i would say 2 people sharing 1 is more than enough. I like that we can try 4 different sakes, but i didnt really loveeeee the selection. I think I would just choose the bootle i want to try next time i go. My fav was the tuna hand roll and the purple rice risotto. Great place for a date night or a celebration🙈

Google
I've been here several times for the omakase and I'd say it may be the best in the city! I love the variety you get (not just nigiris here!) and it is consistently delicious! Great service, cute restaurant - fun to sit at the bar and watch the chefs. Not too long ago the omakase (chefs menu) was $75pp which I thought was a steal of a deal! Not too long ago the prices have gone up to $95pp. Still worthwhile I think, but definitely more of a 'splurge' at that price point. Regardless, highly recommend and would return!

Yelp
One of my favourite restaurants in toronto! Small, intimate setting with delicious asian flavours. Servers are great and attentive. I've been here multiple times already, but what really made this review a 5 star was their tasting menu that I had. At $90 per person for the tasting menu you get a large variety of food that not only looks great but tastes amazing as well. For our tasting menu we got: Raw Oysters 5/5 - Fresh and topped with some caviar. Great starter Tuna Temaki 5/5 - A handroll with fresh tuna on top. Crispy seaweed wrapped in a bed of warm rice. So good that we had to add a second handroll to our meal. Added an extra uni temaki for $20 1000/5 - A must get! It was the biggest highlight of our meal. Does not come with the tasting menu but the uni temaki uses fresh uni that is sweet, creamy and umami. (the uni used for the temaki is different from the uni toast) Uni Toast 4/5 - Comes with a large piece of uni on some black toast. The texture differences from the crispy bread to the creamy uni is what makes this dish so memorable. Giving it a 4/5 because the uni used here was not as high quality as the uni temaki we had prior to this. But still a great dish! 2 Types Sashimi 5/5 - Fresh and clean tasting. Comes with a vinaigrette that elevates the raw fish. Lobster Bucatini 5/5 - Oh my - delicious! The creamy sauce of this lobster bucatini was to die for. Pasta was cooked to the perfect doneness of al dente and it came with lots of pieces of lobster. The sauce is what puts this dish over the top - so well balanced, creamy, salty and packed with seafood flavour. Wagyu Steak 5/5 - Buttery, fatty, cooked to perfection wagyu steak with a delicious sauce. The charred vegetables on the side were also such a great addition to this dish. Dessert 5/5 - Great end to our meal with something sweet. Overall, I can't hype this place up enough. Every single dish was made with precision, taste was amazing and I still think about this meal all the time. Make sure to make a reservation as the place is small and only have few seating.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place on a Tuesday since they were promoting "Temaki Tuesday" where it's half off. The owner served us and told us it's a new promotion they are trying out. We ordered a few temaki rolls: salmon, scallop and tuna. All of them were very good. The sashimi plate was also good and included some fatty tuna. All of the fish was fresh and flavorful here. I'd recommend coming here. The outdoor space is nice and they also have a proper sushi bar inside.

Yelp
this is a small japanese fusion-ish spot that focuses on the quality/freshness of their ingredients. i've been here previously for the tasting menu, and this time for the a la carte. I personally enjoyed ordering a la carte more since I prefer the futomaki (not part of tasting menu) and trying the seasonal offerings such as the stuffed zucchini flowers. my personal favourite was the tuna futomaki since it had tender and fresh fatty & lean tuna with no frills. every main dish was truly innovative and well thought out from the lobster pesto pasta to the stuffed zucchini flowers. overall, amazing quality for price and definitely classifiable as a hidden gem!

Yelp
I've always wanted to try this place since I lived near it when it first opened. We got the tasting menu and order the scallop temaki a la carte. It's a small space but cozy. It is super tight walkways and the bathroom is downstairs FYI in case you have accessibility needs. They have bag hooks under the counter as well as coat hooks in the back of the restaurant. Service was nice and very quick. The fish was fresh. My favourites were the scallop temaki and uni toast. I loved the black cod dish - crispy skin and super tender meat. The croquettes were a pleasant surprise! The cheese wasn't overpowering at all and overall super tasty.

Yelp
We were running a bit late for our 8:15 reservation on a Friday evening, but we actually didn't end up getting seated until half an hour later. They also had to move us to another table to accommodate a party of four, but they did warn us ahead of time, and they comped our first round of drinks, which was nice of them. We were hoping to do the tasting menu because we really wanted the uni toast (which they ran out of) but they said most of the tasting menu items were gone, and we had to order a la carte. So if you're looking to do the tasting menu as well, make sure you get an earlier reservation. We ended up ordering a few items: -Caviar oyster - the oyster was fine. I liked the hot sauce in the little bottle that it was served with -Blue fin tuna hand roll - this was really good. I liked the fried shallots it was topped with. It was a nice change from the typical green onion -Salmon hand roll - this was great as well. I recently started liking ikura, so that was a nice touch -Flat iron wagyu - this was probably the worst dish of the night. It came smothered in some sauce, reminiscent of the teriyaki kitchen entrees you'd get at a sushi takeout restaurant. It masked the taste of the beef, which makes me wonder about the quality and if it was even wagyu at all Maybe my experience would have been difference had I gotten to try the tasting menu. But it's hard to judge when menu items are limited. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back though.

Yelp
Wheeee (。・・。)ノ٩()و ~What we ordered 我是Menu~ Asahi Super Dry Draft12CAD Tasting Menu85CAD per person *Oyster with grapefruit mignonette & black caviar Tbh it's not a dish that necessarily wows since the oyster flavor is not particularly strong but the whole combination is still enjoyable and well-balanced, providing a decent start to the meal 蠔味唔太重,整體嚟講係balance嘅,但並不驚艷 *Bluefin Tuna Temaki Fresh and succulent bluefin tuna wrapped in crispy nori, offering a delightful contrast in textures. The simplicity of the temaki allows the quality of the tuna to shine through, With a bit more seasoning, it would be perfect. 見到佢哋嘅紫菜係一路烘住所以好脆,一啖咬哂Tuna同埋面頭啲脆脆好好味,但味道略為淡咗啲 *Uni with Forno Cultura's squid ink toast (THE OF THE TASTING MENU) Seriously words cannot describe how divine this is. Creamy uni in generous portion paired with squid ink toast provides a rich and savory combination with a hint of oceanic flavor. The toast adds a satisfying crunch and buttery flavour, enhancing the overall experience. 呢!個!好!食!到!爆!炸!海膽極鮮甜仲要份量一啲都唔少!配埋下面個toast同個醬超正 *King Salmon & Bluefin Tuna Tataki paired with asian pear, myoga Tataki slices paired with refreshing Asian pear and myoga. Yelp
Omai is still one of our favorite sushi spots in Toronto. They recently came out with a tasting menu for a reasonable price of $85 per person. There were so much food and each dish were served with premium quality ingredients. We got 8 dishes including: - Oysters with caviar - Uni Toast - Chef's Choice Sashimi Sampler - Scallop Handrolls with crème fraiche and apple - Temaki Handrolls - Grilled Cod - Panfried Australian Wagyu - Lemon Meringue Tarte All the dishes were very unique and offered a different experience. We went from cold dishes to warm dishes, all sharing a Japanese cuisine experience. We both absolutely loved the uni toast and the scallop handrolls and we would definitely go back again to relive this experience.

Yelp
Came to Omai for girl's night and tried the tasting menu for $85 per person. Unfortunately the food was a bit disappointing. The flavors for some of the dishes didn't work and just wasn't balanced. Like the mango sauce on the scallop sashimi just didn't work well, the sauce overpowered the scallops and didn't allow the protein to shine, since scallops is mild tasting going with such a strong sauce just didn't do it justice. The black cod and wagyu were okay, it was a bit of a let down, it's not as tender and soft as I anticipated. Items from their menu that I did enjoy though, the oysters, the uni on toast, king salmon sashimi, and bluefin tuna temaki were good. The service was okay, our waitress was nice but she did forget to bring us a few items here and there. We also weren't given plates or cutlery when they started serving the first course for our tasting menu, we had to request it. The ambiance was modern and cozy, it's a smaller restaurant but the space is beautifully decorated. I had came to Omai before and did enjoy their food, that's why I decided to come back and try the tasting menu. Unfortunately I don't think their tasting menu is worth it. If I were to go back I'd probably stick to a la carte. Since for the price of their tasting menu, there are better options out there.

Yelp
Food: had the $85/person prix fixe dinner along with the additional futomaki. Everything was delicious. The scallop sashimi, uni toast, and futomaki were my favourites. The lemon meringue tart was delicious but it was a bummer that when two people do the prix fixe they must share just one tarte. In general delicious and interesting combinations for a special occasion but portions are on the small end and I was still hungry after. Service: friendly and attentive. The chefs were cooking in the front and everyone was lovely. I'm glad I went! It was a great experience.

Yelp
I ordered the Omai Futomaki. Which is a big roll with Salmon, Kani, Fish roe, Tamago, Avocado, Cucumber, Mushroom, and daikon. The Futomaki is fresh and yummy. The flavours are really amazing. It was so good I had to order another. The staff and vibe is all nice. The staff are always friendly. The vibe is snug but chill. Great place for a date, a small celebratio, or hang out with friends.

Yelp
I've been here twice and twice was nice! First time I came was for a bachelor party dinner. We did the omakase and the service was great. The food was tasty and beautiful and the pace was perfect. We had a few bottles of sake as you would and the suggestions were well received. Second time I came was with my gf. We ordered a la carte and ordered off menu, the uni on squid ink toast which was quite pricey but good! Again the service was great and the food was satiating. A great little date night spot for sure!

Yelp
Very high quality and the fish is extremely fresh! Everything we ordered was really good and the service was very attentive. What we ordered: Croquette - these came steaming hot and were perfectly crispy on the outside and had a mushroom and cheese filling inside that was delicious. It came in 3 pieces and I would definitely order again Chirashi don - every piece of fish was extremely fresh and definitely worth ordering! The portion is not that big so definitely recommend ordering sides/appetizers as well Omai roll - this roll was so good we actually ended up ordering a second to share Bluefin tuna temaki - the tuna was incredible! And they give a decent amount that makes it worth ordering Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
So my wife and I came to Toronto to celebrate my upcoming 32nd birthday. We've came across this unique Japanese restaurant and decided to see what they have to offer. As with many places, there are both pros and cons so I'll let you decide which one outweighs which. Although I wanted to try the tasting menu, they didn't allow us to order just one tasting menu and A la carte the rest. Below are what we ordered and my analysis of each individual dish: Hokkaido scallop crudo and confit leeks - very fresh and meaty scallops! No sauce was needed because it came with a type of vinaigrette. Think a hint of soy sauce would have enhanced the flavor but that's just my personal preference! Worth trying in my opinion, very worth the price (14 bucks for 6 pieces). Hokkaido uni don - Very generous amount of Hokkaido uni with a delicious and sweet tomago, fresh scallop and spotted prawn. However, although the initial taste of the Hokkaido was sweet, there was still a bitter aftertaste that do not often accompany fresh Hokkaido uni. For 60 bucks, this was unfortunately underwhelming. I know that they do go through boxes of uni quickly due to their popular uni toast and other uni selections, but I think it may be helpful to taste each new box before serving, just to ensure that the flavors remain consistent. We are just sad we didn't get to experience the fresh uni that other reviewers wrote about :/ Omai futo - truffle infused assorted fish futomaki roll. Very interesting flavors with the truffle paste, was definitely worth trying indeed! Salmon temaki - this was just meh for us, especially since it's counterpart (bluefin tuna) was the same price and is leagues tastier! Bluefin tuna temaki - this was the bomb! For 9 bucks it's definitely pricey but deliciously so! There were some garlic chips on top that definitely enhanced the fattiness flavor of the bluefin tuna! Yuzu mandarin & cantaloupe cucumber City Seltzer - definitely skip this if you don't care for a basically very mild flavored seltzer water. Wagyu steak - now this is the main character of tonight's dining experience! For 32 bucks, they gave a generous portion of perfectly cooked wagyu beef; so tender...so moist...so orgasmic...*drool*...the only downside is that it's served as is, just steak with no rice to chase the rich flavor with. What would enhance this dish even more would be fried garlic chips!! Definitely worth trying hands down!! Thank you for reading and I hope this helps! :p

Yelp
Came back for a sit-down service and I think overall, the food items here are good but ridiculously overpriced. There are much better sushi options in the city for a fraction of the Omai prices, but I guess you pay for the ambience (which tbh, is nice). Some notes: - Miso black cod was WAY too salty but the fish was delicious - Scallop handroll is a MUST TRY - Chirashi don was just OK
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Tried the tasting menu ($85/person) and it was such a lovely experience. There were 8 dishes, and I ordered a yuzu beer. Seafood was fresh, and the everything was perfectly cooked. My favourites would be their Uni Toast (MUST TRY), and Miso black cod dish. Staffs were very kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was great. The low lighting, and Japanese city pop faintly playing in the background, makes this the perfect date spot. The portions are quite small so do plan to eat a little before, or after the tasting. Though it was an expensive eat, I will DEFINITELY be returning.

Yelp
I've come back here twice in the last few months, and since then Omai has been phenomenal. This time, I ordered off the a la carte menu, and it was just as good as before if not better. The uni toast and the croquettes are a perfect bite, the sashimi is melty in your mouth, and the miso cod could not have been more perfectly cooked. The meringue dessert was nice too, but I feel like it could be a bit more inventive. Regardless, between the food and the top tier service, I must say this is one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto.

Yelp
This place is cozy yall. It's pretty small inside but absolutely worth a visit! Seafood was very fresh. Service was amazing! Would absolutely return for their drinks!

Yelp
One of the best tasting menus in the city. This small quaint sushi place is a hidden gem. I've been here so many times and every time I enjoy it. Their service and their food is amazing. Please come here

Yelp
I recently tried the tasting menu from Omai and it was super tasty! - Uni on Squid Ink Toast w/caviar - Bluefin Tuna hand roll - Oysters and Sashimi - Croquette w/mushroom, oka cheese and truffle mayo - Cod - American Wagyu w/Yu Choy - Lemon Meringue Pie Everything was absolutely delicious! The standouts for me were the uni toast, tuna handrolls and the wagyu. The uni was super fresh and creamy... it was the perfect bite with the buttery and salty toast! As for the tuna handroll, I thought the seaweed and rice gave the perfect balance of texture with the fatty tuna. The wagyu was cooked a perfect medium rare and still had the char on the outside. Overall, I wish the portions were bigger but I was still satisfied because the dishes were all so tasty! Tasting Menu: $85/pp before tip and tax

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner here recently on a Wednesday night (yes, they are open Wed and should really update their online hours). The space is small with only 5 tables and a long bar, so it fills up quickly. Come early to grab a seat or try your luck with the wait list. We had the croquette, tuna futomaki, chirashi bowl, trout futomaki. I liked the textures of the croquette. The butternut squash was completely soft and gooey while the shell was crunchy and light. A great way to start the meal. The futomaki is worth it, as they are large rolls filled with only the fish that it is named after. No filler of veggies or eggs, only top quality fish. The chirashi bowl is a great way to taste and compare all the different shashimi slices. Each slice was different and delicious Great trendy little place to have a relaxing meal.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food here! I booked an reservation for two and was promptly seated. We ordered the oysters with caviar, croquettes, bluefin tuna and tamago handrolls. Everything was fresh and had a spin to it. I would come back in a heartbeat.

Yelp
I've been seeing these uni toasts all over social media and naturally had to try it. We opted for the tasting menu which included 9 small courses. Oysters: the condiments included was just their home made hot sauce and lemon and the caviar ontop. I I prefer some sweet/tanginess too which it didn't have Uni toast: There was a generous portion of uni, and the toast was buttery, light and airy. I really loved this combination and will come back just for this Sashimi: I found the cuts of fish to be AYCE sushi quality which was disappointing. Scallops: These had lots of flavor which reminded me of a Chinese stir fry dish, however it was all a tad bit overpowering for such a delicate scallop Truffle tamago hand roll: the tamago was okay, I prefer mine with more of seafood flavour and sweetness, I liked the hint of truffle (not pictured) Croquettes: these were crispy and good, but nothing crazy (not pictured) Clams: the clams were fresh and super plump, I enjoyed this but I make this in a similar way at home lol Squid: The pumpkin (?) puree which it all sat on was sweet and was a good contrast to the savory and chewy squid tentacles Steak: This had good flavors, except wasn't the best cut of meat. The chips ontop also didn't do much for the steak Yuzu merengue tart (?): I found the base to be a bit hard, I'm also not a fan of sour/citrius desserts so I didn't love this one I deffinitely wouldn't come back for the tasting again in the future as I felt some items were just "filler" and not worth about $100 per person. However, I would come back for the uni toast in the future forsure! Also a note they only have sake's and not any cocktails on the drink menu which is a bit disappointing.

Yelp
Went here for a few drinks and dinner - the chirashi don was surprisingly good value for money for the amount of fish that you get and the overall quality of the fish was very good. We also ordered an assortment of Temaki and the seasonal fish dish which was a cooked Atlantic cod with caviar dish - generous amounts of caviar was given with each of the dishes, which along with the quality of the fish helps justify the smaller portion sizes. The bluefin tuna Tamaki was the highlight of the night - I could easily eat 10 of those by myself. The drinks selection was also very good, the creativity behind the paper cranes drink was great, they pin a tiny paper crane to the drink which was a very nice touch. The owner also had a short conversation with us about the drink and how he made his staff fold the paper cranes which felt personal - would definitely come back.

Yelp
Came here for early dinner. It wasn't too busy. Greeted by a wonderful gentleman, super helpful with our drink selection. Ordered the tasting menu and it was amazing. Doesn't look like much on the menu but it was very filling and delicious! The staff were very attentive and super friendly. Did not have to wait long for our food, and the drinks was amazing, paired really well with our meal. Definitely will come back again!

Yelp
First time coming to this restaurant. I recommend to book a reservation on Friday/ Saturday nights as the place is usually booked up. We tried a couple of items on the menu. The sashimi platter, futomaki, pate toast, scallops, and waygu beef steak were really good! Service & quality of the food were top notch!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Good place to try at least once! Uni Toast - This isn't on the menu, so you can ask your waiter for it - Personally I'm not a huge fan of uni, but my friend said the uni was really fresh. The toast was very spongey texture Fried Chicken - Really good and super crispy! - Comes with 2 sauces, one is a spicy sweet gochujang sauce and the other is a garlicky aioli Chicken Liver Pâté Toast - If you like liver, then you will like this! Personally not a fan of liver. Oyster Caviar - Barely tasted the caviar, but was good. - They serve it with their homemade hot sauce and it's so good! Chirashi Don - Sashimi was nice and fresh Steak Don - Never had anything like this, the steak was cooked perfectly to my liking! The egg was nice and creamy and the shishito peppers were good as well!
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
Great Food but a bit overpriced. The food was exceptional - the two bowls we got (Steak Donburi and Uni Chirashi) definitely had great flavor and seasoning, but as you can see by the pictures the bowls themselves were not much bigger than a small sized Udon. Because of this I felt the value was not equivalent to the portion size. Because of this we were hesitant to go back and try the tasting menu. The Steak Donburi was a well cooked medium rare, the Uni had great natural flavors.

Yelp
My partner and I stopped in before heading to a concert (which is a special treat in itself after all of our lockdowns!). The servers are all so friendly and when we were paying, she gave me a lovely compliment on my earrings - which always brightens the day. It's pricey, but truly worth it for quality alone. We sat on the patio but I can't wait to sit indoors once it gets cooler outside. Looks cozy!

Yelp
Cozy restaurant with about 20 seats so getting a reservation is a definite must! Booking was made online and texts were sent as confirmation and reminder. Love the decor of both the outside and the inside, very minimal but clean. Opted for the tasting menu and you definitely can't go wrong with this option! Having the counter seat was amazing seeing the attention to care that the chef puts into the dishes. Not only that, was very impressed with the care they have for their equipment constantly keeping a clean space. Tasting menu had: Oyster Croquettes Uni Toast Steak Tartare Seoul Dog Pork belly Lobster Matcha Brûlée Sudachi meringue pie Everything tasted unique and great in its own way! Highlight for me has to have been the Seoul dog and croquettes so definitely ordering an extra serving of that! With that being said, I honestly thought I was going to still walk out hungry but was pleasantly surprised at how content I was(but still craving for another visit!).

Yelp
Tried the $85/pp tasting menu. I would say it's good value for the variety of dishes you get to try. The highlight would be the uni toast, very nicely paired together and generous amount of uni. Unfortunately the cod was slightly over cooked and the sauce on the waygu was very salty but overall a pleasant experience from service to food.

Yelp
I came here with a few friends for a birthday dinner. We had reservations for a party of 8. We did the tasting menu and we found the tasting menu to be a slow experience. We were in the restaurant for 3 hours! The wait times between meals were extremely long. There were no regular check ins by the servers and the steak was extremely chewy. I do have to say the sashimi was excellent and will recommend that.

Yelp
I treated myself and my partner to an impulsive splurge on the tasting menu while baked af on Saturday. The restaurant was very accommodating of my crustacean allergy so I still got to eat all the things I love like uni, fish and scallop! I wouldn't be able to come here often but it's well worth the experience. I might add that a tasting menu under 100 (79 per person as of now) is not that common with Japanese food so I guess you could call this a beginner yuppie's foray into omakase. It seemed like the chirashi bowl was a popular choice for many diners around. Highlights: - PEI oysters topped with oyster caviar. I haven't had caviar that much before but this was the first time it didn't seem too salty or fishy where it appeared. This black caviar made a recurrence on a few dishes but I didnt really care for it. - the most decadent uni-topped nori toast, served like a canape. The uni was arranged in the shape of a lobster. I could taste flecks of crunchy salt in the toast. - Wagyu steak frites dressed with ground radish - the sashimi plate with scallop, bluefin (yes this is destroying our ocean ecology but i prefer this over the more fatty cuts), chuotoro and trout

Yelp
Came here for the 8-course tasting menu. Service was impeccable, and every dish was perfection! My favourites were the uni toast and the bavette streak. Yum yum yum!

Yelp
The food is ok, not cheap. However, it's a small place and the atmosphere isn't chill. If you're going to be out quick I guess it's okay, but I have to reiterate that the food isn't cheap.

Yelp
I tried the tasting menu with a group of colleagues after work. Overall everything was just okay. There was maybe one item I really loved. The service was great, the staff were really nice.

Yelp
I remember trying this cute spot maybe a year and a bit ago? The sake was definitely the highlight... would love to go back. I ended up enjoying a unique one - so don't be afraid to try something away from the popular choice. Hope i have a chance to go back soon and savour the dishes and sake more properly- it's a popular restaurant!

Yelp
Updating the review because it's always an amazing time at Omai for us. Fantastic service, wonderful vibe. The team at Omai bring a fresh taste to Japanese style small plates. The temaki (Hand rolls) ingredients and flavours are well thought out and delicious. My fave plates are: the octopus, crudo, trout hand roll, lobster vermicelli and the sudachi meringue pie - - well, everything is good!! lol

Yelp
Came in to try the tasting menu with a friend and absolutely loved it! Would definitely come back again. Every dish was spot on, and it didn't feel repetitive at all. The dishes came out looking a bit small, but we were quite full by the end of the meal. Our highlights from the night were: Uni toast Mussels Pork belly Lobster vermicelli The hand rolls are also a worthy mention for me. I'm usually not a huge fan of hand rolls, but Omai does them really well.

Yelp
This place is a little hidden at the end of Baldwin street. At least their sign wasn't as apparent compared to the other places. It was the $1.(something) oysters so we ordered 4 of those. They add a touch of caviar on the top and include other sauces on the side. The oysters were fresh but one of them was a bit grainy. I guess they didn't clean it as thoroughly. We ordered the chirashi Don and steak donburi. The serving size seemed small but they didn't skip on the protein. I had the steak donburi. They didn't ask how I would like it cooked but it was served medium rare. I thought it was very good. Nice char on the outside and super soft on the inside. They also include a poached egg and pickled veggies. All the items worked well and the overall portion was surprising filling. I think if I came hungrier my answer would be different though. My friend's chirashi Don had a variety of fish. Nice quality and good thickness. I think we both left feeling satisfied but still had room for dessert. The place sets up a nice ambiance for small group gatherings. If I'm ever in the area I would suggest this place.

Yelp
-The short version- Just go here, you won't be disappointed. Been here many times and I keep bringing a different friend to try it out. Small menu, expensive if you want to be full, but oh so worth it. It's a good time, the staff are kind and attentive. I recommend booking a seat by the bar, the best seat to watch the temaki chef. -The long version- Atmosphere: A very small place, there are not many seats, so I recommend making reservations. Food and Drink: They are known for their Temaki (sushi hand roll). They make them fresh and serve them to you one at a time. They are pre-seasoned, no need for the soy sauce in my opinion. My favourites: big eye tuna and king salmon. They only make Temaki when it comes to sushi, so no sushi rolls or sashimi, don't go in expecting any of that. Favourite kitchen menu items: the Croquettes (delicious - a must have) and the Chicken Liver Pate (so great)! The Beef Cheek is also my favourite. Small, appetizer-sized portions. This is a sake bar, so they have a great small selection of sake. I had the Kippon Junmai Ginjo (sweet, fruity) as well as the traditional Junmai (drier, in my opinion) on my visits, both were great! Service: Everyone is kind, attentive, and they make great recommendations. One of my favourite spots for fresh temaki! I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Omai Malpeque caviar oysters with hot sauce and mignonette sauce Red snapper and raspberry cooler Uni with butter toast (highly recommend $15 each) Hakkaido scallop hand roll with creme fraiche, compressed apple Croquette, mushroom with truffle nori aioli sauce Beer battered cauliflower fritters with house togarashi Grilled octopus with cashew miso and potatoes Lobster vermicelli with shrimp sausage and herbs Desserts: Matcha creme brûlée and Sudachi Meringue Pie I would definitely go back and either order the exact same tasting menu if not just the uni toast and lobster item or the uni chirashi alone, but the uni options here are a must-try!! The milky texture and bold taste make the uni toast an absolutely exquisite experience!! Every item was solid, which is quite rare for me.

Yelp
Came for lunch and this place did not disappoint! Had their three roll combo. Scallop was my favorite! The scallop was soft and not fishy paired with apple and a kind of cheese?? Yes please! Ahi tuna was great too! I looove the fresh toasted nori have to eat it right away! The fish was very fresh. Need to come back to try the Chirashi which looked amazing with lots of fish. Also, they have happy hour!! One more thing - I think the wasabi is real.

Yelp
Often times when I tried uni in Canada, I was turned off by bitter taste and gasoline like odor. Omai's Uni Chirashi did not have any of that. It was creamy, nutty and sweet. Every element in this dish was just right. Scallops, excellent tamago and seasoned rice underneath. Wasabi was provided along with this dish, but it did not even seemed to be necessary. It was definately a flavor bomb. I can't wait to go back to try their tasting menu.

Yelp
We ordered the tasting menu for 2 which was about $65 pp overall I think this was a good deal as it provided us approximately 10 small appetizers sized meals (see photos below) I did however find their drinks to be on the pricier side. Our favourite dish was the uni (sea urchin) and scallops as they were really fresh. The steak was on the saltier side and we did not enjoy the Croquettes as it wasn't anything special.

Yelp
Omai restaurant is located in Balwin Village where this eatery offers Japanese/Asian inspired tapas that are sharable. The restaurant has a mix of bar and table seating where the majority of seats are at the bar (where you can watch your food being prepared). The menu comprises of handrolls, rice bowls, smaller plates, and larger sharing plates. There is also a tasting menu with approximately 7 dishes for a cost of $58 per person (requires 2 people minimum and the whole party's participation as well). I tried Omai on a Wednesday evening where I had also made reservations online. It seems like they had a happy hour special from 5-6:30pm where there were $1 oysters as well as $6 sake and beers. My party and I opted to try the tasting menu which was worth it for its price and the food we had. Here are the following items we had for the tasting menu: - Caviar oyster (black caviar, mignonette, hot sauce) - delicious refreshing start. - Crudo (raspberry dashi, smokey pickle) - Uni toast (secret menu item) - if you love uni, this is a must get! It is not listed on the menu but you can still ask for it. - Scallop hand roll - fresh Hokkaido scallop, need I say more? - Croquette (mushroom, truffle nori aioli) - The truffle nori aioli was delicious and the croquette was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. - Hot dog (jeyuk chorizo, sake steam bun) - interesting take on a hot dog. The sake steam bun is also made in house. - Pork belly (pork, turnip cake, hazelnut) - rich and fatty pork belly with a crispy skin - Lobster (vermicelli, wild shrimp sausage, herbs) - lots of lobster and the vermicelli soaked up the sauce it was in - Matcha brulee - strong matcha taste which was good - Sudachi meringue pie - similar to a lemon meringue pie, this was a good end to the meal Overall, great food and service! I loved the fact that you could watch your food being prepared while sitting at the bar. Would definitely recommend Omai to others!

Yelp
I have been following this restaurant on instagram for the longest time and finally had a chance to come and try their uni rice!! This nice little restaurant is located on Baldwin street. There aren't a lot of seatings, hence I would recommend making a reservation before you make your way here. Mostly they are bar seats with around 3 or 4 small booth tables only. Their menu is simple - appetizers, hand rolls, hot dishes , their specials & also tasting menu available. My friend and I ordered: - 2 uni donburi - 2 scallop handrolls - oysters I must say their food is very fresh !! They are also very generous on the amount of uni they put on the donburi :) one of the best uni donburi in Toronto!!! We couldn't get enough of their scallop hand rolls- must try if you like scallops. The prices are reasonable too, our meal came to around $40 per person including tips. I would totally recommend this restaurant if you haven't tried this place out yet!

Yelp
Tried the tasting menu over the weekend. Really like the vibe of the restaurant! Would recommend that you make reservations before hand since the space is relatively small. We weren't sure what to order and it was recommended to us that we try the tasting menu since we would be able to try out some of the regular menu items as well as items not offered on the menu. The food was really tasty and we enjoyed the variety but it wasn't enough food for us to get full full.

Yelp
Cute little spot in Baldwin Village serving small plates and rice bowls. We got the Uni Don and Tekka Don. The ingredients used in both bowls were fresh and delicious, however the ratio of sushi rice to the fish could be improved. While food was delicious at this spot, I found the price to be on the high end relative to what you get. There are better options in town if you want to spend $40 for a quality rice bowl.

Yelp
Wow! Everything we had were creative and tastes super delicious and unique, made with high quality ingredients, and are reasonably priced. Omai is a tiny boutique style Japanese/Korean fusion restaurant. Although it's a tiny place, seats are well spaced and the open kitchen give it's a nice spacious feel. It's also a great place to get a drink. Caviar oyster: one of the best oysters I've ever had. The salty taste of caviar accentuates the sweet taste of oyster. Their house made white wine and chilli sauces were delicious too. Temaki (hand roll): we ordered a few different ones and they are all super delicious, especially the uni. They are all pre-seasoned with unique sauces inside. The wasabi that came with it tastes like very good quality and is quite sweet. Kanpachi Crudo: I love the taste of kanpachi and this dish is delicious. Kanpachi is a very high quality ingredient and this dish is definitely very reasonably priced. Croquette: it's a simple dish but it is so well flavoured with multiple layers of taste. The texture was also very well made with a crispy shell and a smooth and soft center. Seoul dog: an Asian interpretation of chorizo. It has a nice spicy kick to it that is flavourful but wouldn't leave your month burning. Pork Belly: super crispy skin. It's probably the least special dish of the night but it's still not bad. Fried chicken: an advanced version of the typical Korean street food. The chicken was super juicy and the flavouring is well balanced but with food kicks and layers.
