Omen - Shijo Ponto-cho

Very solid udon restaurant. English menus available if that’s important for you. We had the tempura set, the soy milk udon, chicken appetizer and renkon chips. Soy milk udon is very rich but quite unique. Classic udon broth is very flavorful. Appetizers were so so, and took maybe slightly longer than expected to be served but it was packed right at opening on a Monday.

Nice vegetarian option available. Noodles were OK. Service was not all that tbh. Didn't feel welcome.

Fantastic little place that has vegetarian options on the menu. We went with the vegetarian tempura udon set and it was utterly delicious.

We came here for the udon and it did not disappoint. The noodles were chewy and broth lightly flavored. Other dishes were fine, but not exceptional. It was good overall, but there are plenty of similar udon options around without the fanfare.

The recommended udon with veggie is a mah. Not worth the 20 mins wait. The grilled chicken appetizer also is weird. The sauce tastes like dish soap. I regretted spending so much time waiting here.

Good for people who likes simple and healthy food. Not very spicy.

There was a queue when we came though it was after lunch time. Udon set menu was nice but the large udon bowl is too much for me but not for my husband. Service was efficient.

I went there around 9:30pm, you have to be there early because it's so popular that they do last minute call, after that they won't accept customers. So I got very lucky with timing, I ordered Kyoto dinner special with come in a set of course plus a bowl of udon noodles. Since I went there so late, a lot of the food on the menu were already sold out so I just ordered whatever it was next best thing on the menu. The food was absolutely delicious even though the waiting was kinda long but it was worth the waiting. It was the best udon noodles especially it was freshly made noodles too.
