We enjoyed our time at the Omni in Hilton Head. It was A-OK in our book.
First, the pros. Service at this resort is excellent. When guests arrive, they are greeted with champagne, and if kids are in the party, they receive a backpack filled with surprises. If you have questions, they answer enthusiastically. Every person employed by the resort had a smile and were a pleasure to speak with throughout our trip. Someone clearly takes some time to focus on service here.
The resort itself is beautiful. It is well landscaped with three pools, one of which is adult only. A shallower pool is perfect for younger children. The resort staff plan activities for children throughout the day to keep them entertained while they spend the day at the pool. There is a good deal of shade available around the pool if you prefer to hide from the sun (sun damage is real!).
The beach is just steps away. It is so easy to walk out and enjoy the waves and the views. They have great stations for washing the sand off on your way back to the hotel.
Having a suite was wonderfully convenient. We have a five-year-old who does not eat very much, so spending a ton on resort food does not make a lot of sense. Being able to make him a sandwich in the room or prepare some yogurt for breakfast was great!
The resort is pet-friendly, and we saw plenty of pups roaming the resort with their families.
Now, the cons. We reserved an ocean view suite, and when we arrived, we realized our beach view overlooked the parking lot. It was less than ideal. We would have much preferred the view of the beach from across the pool, which is the image you see on the resort website. I did notice that there are parking lot beach views on both sides of the resort, so be sure to clarify when you make your reservation if it is important to you. For the cost of the upgrade for the ocean view, it was not what we expected. Granted, we did not ask to be moved and do not know if the request would have been accommodated. Given how great the service is, they may have attempted to move us.
I am a graduate student, so unfortunately, my vacation was filled with research and writing. This gave me the opportunity to learn that the internet service also was less than ideal. Even when we paid the upcharge for "premium" internet service (about $5), the service was still slow and spotty and had difficulty loading images and video. Hopefully, this is not a deal breaker for most people on vacation, but if you have work to do, this may be an important consideration.
Finally, while there was not a lot of noise on the halllways, the doors to the rooms are designed to close rather loudly (there is nothing that slows the closing of the door, resulting in a slam). Every night, I was awakened multiple times by doors slamming. I don't know if this is an issue throughout the resort, but it certainly was an issue on our hallway.
This was a beautiful spot with kind people, but there were some hiccups that would give us pause about returning.
