The Best Affordable Hotels in Tokyo

"Neighborhood: AkasakaPrice: From $153 per night When it comes to business travel, the OMO3 is a given. The slim, efficient rooms are outfitted with clever designs, like a headboard that transforms into a couch as it stretches beyond the bed. Each room also comes with a range of toiletries and comforts that rival luxury stays: an air purifier, humidifier, refrigerator, and pajamas are just some of the surprises you'll find in your room. The lobby doubles as a planning zone where guests can lounge and scope out a mural full of neighborhood recommendations (QR codes are available to learn more in English)." - Paris Wilson

30 Best Hotels in Tokyo for Every Budget | Condé Nast Traveler

"Structurally, the OMO3 reads like a business hotel, with slim, efficient rooms, but there’s a lot of soul in the small touches—designer bath products, adorable pillows and subtle design flourishes. The little lobby doubles as a planning zone where guests can lounge and scope out a mural full of neighborhood recommendations (QR codes are available to learn more in English). The premise of the OMO hotels is simple: graded from 1 to 9, each property promises a different level of accoutrement; the OMO3, in this case, slides more toward the no-frills end of the spectrum but plenty of comfort is still on offer." - Brandon Presser

OMO3 Tokyo Akasaka by Hoshino Resorts

"Why book? The best it gets for cheap digs souped up with cheerful service and great access to the surrounding neighborhood and beyond. Set the scene Structurally, it reads like a business hotel, with slim, efficient rooms, but there’s a lot of soul in the small touches—designer bath products, adorable pillows and subtle design flourishes. The little lobby doubles as a planning zone where guests can lounge and scope out a mural full of neighborhood recommendations (QR codes are available to learn more in English). The backstory The premise of the OMO hotels is simple: graded from 1 to 9, each property promises a different level of accoutrement; the OMO3, in this case, slides more toward the no-frills end of the spectrum but plenty of comfort is still on offer. Rooms Clever design—like a headboard that transforms into a couch as it stretches beyond the bed—enlivens ergonomic spaces in this bright, budget fave. Food & drink Breakfast is served in the cafe next door; it may sound strange, but the thick-cut toast is spectacular. Neighborhood Akasaka, or red hill, has had many lives before its current incarnation as a bustling business district—it was once the domain of several prominent samurai families, and a thriving hanamachi, or geisha area. Today the neighborhood comes alive on OMO’s “Ranger Tours”; staff-led outings that take travelers to hidden shrines, shops and even a secret tea salon run by a former geisha. Hour-long tours are the outcome of six months of meticulous research by the OMO employees. Service Big smiles come standard at any Hoshino Resorts property; and while much of the clientele is Japanese, we’re hoping for a sprinkle of English for international Hoshino converts." - Brandon Presser

We loved this hotel. We have 2 rooms on the same floor - a twin for our teenage boys and a double for us. Larger than we were expecting so very happy. Loved the separate toilet and shower zones. Location is perfect - 5 mins to station where you can access everywhere. Lots of great local eateries and bars around to explore. Unfortunately during our stay there was a fire on L9. This was an extremely scary experience and we all were evacuated at 10pm on our last night. The staff were incredible - super calm and good with instructions etc. we were all moved to a police station and they did multiple role calls. We were impressed with their communication. Thankfully the fire was contained and we were allowed back into the hotel at 3am. We were unable to stay on our floor due to smoke but were given another room on a lower level. Management emailed and refunded that nights accommodation. We feel very lucky and thankful to the local firefighters!!! I hope to visit again one day!!!

Great hotel in a very good location. We highly recommend it. It's really clean, modern with strong wifi, lots of hot water and helpful staff. Yes the room was small but we'd two huge suitcases and a suitcase that gets carried onto a plane and we were able to manage fine. In fact all reviews of other hotels noted small rooms and the price wasn't near as good as the price for this hotel. The bed is very hard. Loved that we each got two pillows - one hard and big and one soft. Fast lift. Coffee shop is unfriendly with poor coffee - very milky and little coffee. Without a doubt we'd stay again.

This was the perfect hotel for me and my husband. We loved all of the details of the room and we enjoyed eating at Ueshima. The location is very convenient, allowing us to visit drug stores, convenient stores, and restaurants in the neighborhood. We were also in a very central location where we were able to walk to Shibuya and Akihabara from the hotel. It was a very nice stay, and we would love to visit again.

I loved my short time there, will definitely be a repeat visitor. Very conveniently located nearby Akasaka-Mitsuke station. There is everything you would ever want and need just a short walk away. Room was impeccably clean and a super fast check in and out service. But I also want to mention just how great the staff were. I won't go into full details but I was in a bad situation that they completely saved me from that eased my mind. It could have been a disaster but they went out of their way to save me! I forgot to mention the breakfast voucher at the coffee shop next door. They got some banger vinyls adorning the walls. The breakfast sando I had was delicious and it was by far the best ice coffee I've had in Japan.

What's with Japanese hotels and the lack of exhaust fans or hooks in showers/toilets? This hotel is ok, i wouldn't stay here again or even recommend it to friends. Its probably ok for 1 person, but sharing with 2 people or more isn't fun. The lack of amenities is clear, fill your own water bottles etc. The design of the rooms could be improved by more storage locations. There is lots of wasted space in the rooms that could be used for shelves etc. And the usual lack of hooks is evident.... sigh. Bed is comfortable, showers work but they are the weird ones where the entire bathroom gets saturated if you aren't careful, I'm not a fan of this style at all. Location is ok, but its a bit far from some lines (15 min walk) which isnt too bad but could be a problem if the weather isn't the best. After staying at 6 Japanese hotels on our trip this one is probably my least favourite. Breakfast options are lacking too. Hardly any vegetarian options unless you really love toast ;)

I previously stayed in Hoshino Tomamu and was fairly impressed with both the service and facilities (rooms were slightly dated) and wanted to try a hotel under the same brand.||Hoshino Akasaka is fairly easy to find and close to a few train lines. You are also surrounded by restaurants and shops ( DQ, Matsumoto Kiyoshi to name a few) that draws lesser crowds because you are not in the main tourist area. If you travel light, airport access is not a problem but I did end up catching a taxi from my hotel to my next location in Ginza ( $27 AUD).||On the pricey side compare to other 3 star hotels ( I also stayed at Henn na Hotel Ginza, Royal Park Canvas Kyoto) but there was also greater attention to detail in both room layout and available amenities. For example, a filtered water dispenser was available in this hotel and not others, free tours in the morning and a variety of filtered coffee to choose from.||Breakfast, if you decide to pre-purchase, is set but there are limited options to choose from. ||This hotel promotes self check-ins but there was someone in the lobby to assist.

Very pleasant hotel, very close to two train stations makes it very accessable to all the city. Rooms are quit compact just like most Tokyo hotels, but very convenient. The staff is very friendly. The coffee house in the first floor is very good and pleasent. The area is quite but totally alive, with many hreat restaurants. Will definitely consider getting back to Akasaka.

We stayed here for 7 nights recently. The location of the hotel is ideal, located a short walking distance from two subway stations, which can get you pretty much anywhere in Tokyo without transferring lines. The rooms are not huge but we had two large suitcases and managed fine - we just took everything we needed out and stored it in the cupboards so we weren’t needing to access them constantly. There are a lot of very good restaurants around and we ate nearby the hotel most nights. It is also very quiet at night time, we were not woken by any outside noises or traffic during our stay. They will also store your luggage for you for the day, if you arrive early or after check out. There is also a coin washing machine and dryer and they have a machine in the laundry to exchange 1000 notes to coins for convenience as well. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to others.
