Historic site where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the view.
Omokdae Historic Site is perched atop a steep hill and is notable as a spot where Yi Seong-gye, who would later become King Taejo, celebrated his victory after the war against the Japanese army at Unbong Peak in Hwangsan Mountain. Directly across the bridge from Omokdae lies Imokdae Historic Site, located at the base of Seungamsan Mountain. About 80 meters downhill from Imokdae, there are memorial stones and a building that was once home to Mokjo, King Taejo’s great-great-grandfather. The inscriptions on the stones are written in the handwriting of Emperor Gojong. Mokjo relocated to Hamgyeongdo following a dispute with the then minister of Jeonju, an event that King Taejo believed was pivotal in his establishment of the Joseon dynasty.
