On The Hill Restaurant

I am not sure I've ever posted a five star review for restaurants however tonight was worth it! The reason we went was due to it being my wife's birthday. We started with sauted king prawns and salt cod fishcakes with a beetroot tartar and a haddock florentine. Both starters were superb. My starter, the fishcakes, were extremely flavoursome and the prawns were very succulent. My wife's starter was also well seasoned with an intense smokey flavour. For the main course, I had a duo of beef which was a fillet steak with a beef brisket and a celeriac side. The dish was perfectly proportioned. The flavours were rich and well balanced with one another. The fillet was cooked medium rare and as a result was extremely tender. My wife had the duo of duck which had Asian inspired flavours. The tempura broccoli was an interesting taste and though the duck wasn't quite pink enough for me, my wife loved it. Finally, we shared the trio of chocolate dessert. That was definitely a smart move as it was a large portion. Again the dessert was faultless. An added touch was that they gave my wife a birthday balloon as I'd mentioned it in the reservation details. Whilst it was a simple gesture, it actually showed an appropriate level of attentiveness. For around £80 for 2.5 courses and a couple of G&Ts, I would say it was well priced!

An amazing restaurant. Almost reluctant to share this great place with everyone as I want to return and enjoy the peace of the place! Reasonable price for 3 course meal, lovely food well cooked, very helpful and friendly staff, Attractive grade listed premises, close to Ruthin centre, spotless loos, yummy mocktails, decent beer and can't wait to return. Our stroganoff and pork belly dishes were excellent. Their own black pudding is a taste of heaven! The mushrooms starter was good. The desserts were very nicely presented. Pavlova very generous and chocolate brownie melt in the mouth.

What a hidden gem, very lucky to have been introduced to this restaurant on our recent trip over from Aus - will definately recommend to my uk, wales friends. Very nice interior excellent customer service - GF options available. Would have liked to see something a bit lighter on the lunch menu however our table of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Ps im a very fussy food critic 😉

Fantastic dining experience. Warm welcome, friendly service. Menu was varied and catered for different dietary needs. Seasonal dishes and specials. Food was really well cooked and presented. Photo shows the 'little taste of Morocco' main course which was delicious. Overall very good value for money.

This the best the Resturant has been. We have eaten here off and on for 10 years. The Thai platter and Spanish chicken are excellent.

This restaurant has closed permanently and is now called "Small Plates". I haven't been to either but the other reviews were super so I didn't think it fair to drag down any reputation.

OMG. Great, welcoming, comfy, delicious. Wanted to try so much off the menu we settled on 2 apps from standing and 2 apps from specials. OMG. Everything bright and fresh. Staff was extremely nice and accommodating. They know how to get to yes! Dessert to die for,

Absolutely fantastic food. All dishes we ordered were tasty and beautifully presented. They give you free bread, crisps and olives at the beginning on your visit which is a nice touch. Service was a little slow but staff were friendly. Would definitely recommend for good food.

Having dined at On The Hill multiple times I am never disappointed! I always find they have a suitable and varied Vegetarian option which does change on the menu. They have recently added theme nights monthly although I am yet to attend I have heard great reviews! Certainly not one to miss!

Friendly, unpretentious and cosy restaurant in the heart of this beautiful and historic town. Execution is competent and unfussy with traditional British favourites to the fore. Decent wine list. Exceptionally good value for money. Recommended.
