On The Rox

seems like a lot of rock music history here, but I was shocked at the menu prices.. $20 for a submarine sandwich and $6 a Pepsi drink. Up to $13 for a bottle of beer.

Unforgettable nights here. good music /lots of dancing + awesome bartenders ! Cloey or zoey ? was very nice and full of charisma, making our drinks and recommending things. I think that was the best AMF I’ve ever had. definitely coming back.

This is the bar inside The Roxy that offers both alcohol and food during shows. Service was quick and it's handy to have the option of ordering food, but the margarita I ordered tasted like it had no alcohol whatsoever in it. They also refuse to serve cups of tap water, so you're stuck buying $4 bottles of water.

Here is where I got my first 21+ wrist band... at 20. If there were more places to sit that would be a accessibility win (though it's possible it was limited due to covid idk).

Planned my sister’s bday here … literally cancelled THE NIGHT of her birthday. Lame and unprofessional. Spend your time and money elsewhere because you aren’t missing much.

$17 draft beer....even the bartender looked at me like it was wrong. I obviously paid for it since it was poured but come on.

Random suggestion to management but it is literally too dark in there lol. I went there for a birthday party and literally every single person I talked to complained about how dark it was that you could barely see the person that you were speaking to. Perhaps in addition of a disco ball or some ambient lighting would help & also look cool lol. Honestly have no desire to return because I like being able to see lol

Used to play at the Roxy downstairs. Went to a private RSVP only party The music was great, I personally know the DJ and he's a great guy. About an hour or so, a section of rowdy rich kids started chanting "change the music" Long story short, the bouncer was able to be swindled into kicking the DJ off. And replacing him with mainstream trash Don't go here; this place is shady. I used to play at the downstairs room with my band and they were shady 8 years ago, they still are now.

Went here for the first time yesterday. The parking sucks, be ready to pay at least $10 for a parking garage. They don't open until 11pm, so don't get there earlier than that. You gotta climb quite a few stairs to get in and out so I wouldn't recommend getting mega trashed here. They are pretty damn pricey, so just know that too. A shot is $14, so yeahhh. Inside the bar is extremely dark, so don't worry so much about how you look. Most people will barely even be able to see you. The perimeter of the bar has couches to sit on, and there's stools at the bar. DJ fish was pretty bomb, he played good music all night. I think you are allowed to smoke in there because there was some chick smoking a blunt by the DJ and I saw smoke puffs through the night from others. The music got pretty loud at one point so be ready to be screaming at your friends to talk. There was no cover charge to get in.

Cool spot, bartenders were nice, the 9$ bottle of corona ALMOST helped me get through the absolutely terrible dj set lol. Like i get the idea of playing "millennial classics" but like literally the dj didn't play a single song from 2017 to now. Some chick who's friends with Halsey or something? She shouldn't come back. Other than that I like the place. It did get super fuuuu hot and I wasn't even dancing, just Milly rockin

Came here for the Opus Label/Perez Hilton Party. The highlights were getting to meet Perez Hilton and to see the fabulous Jeremy W. who threw this thing have a successful night. The place, well, it's cool because it's got history and is in Hollywood. There are windows and you can see a bit of our beautiful city from up there since On The Rox is above The Roxy. However, the place was not too full and it was pretty hot. Granted it was an August night in Los Angeles but still. Nobody was really dancing or anything and it wasn't jam packed so why did it get so hot? I really take the AC in a place seriously because I can't stand the heat. Even though it is a small place the On The Rox staff were not that quick at clearing tables. There's a pretty decent sized bar in here. There are some cool looking couches to kick back on. As you can imagine, parking is HELL. You pretty much need to pay for it unless you are willing to walk a good distance and even then you are really lucky to find free parking.

Do you enjoy feeling inadequate around overly pretentious Los Angeles hipsters? Do you like hanging out with no-name celebrities? Do you yearn to get a surprise shot of rohypnol in your vodka redbull? Then this is the place for you. On the real. I wonder how long this post will remain up. It's no wonder there are several deleted reviews on this page. Ladies beware.

I've been here a couple of times, and am still not totally sold on it. I think I prefer being downstairs in The Roxy itself. I don't know what it is about this place that doesn't really do it for me. It seemed like drinks were even more expensive here but I could be wrong. The bathroom situation is a bit annoying as well, there's only one bathroom for each, and it's a single, so be prepared to wait in line if you're a girl.

Such a chill spot when not too packed. I've been here a few times for friends that have performed at On the Rox, drink prices are decent. They got couches for "Bottle Service" but it didn't seem that exclusive. Noise level, can't hear myself talk, but don't need too if you're listening to music. Anyway, I wouldn't go there for a night out, I'd go if I needed to go support someone for their music. Pretty small spot, so you're always elbowing someone. It's pretty alright.

Came here because a friend of a friend of a friend was performing... a rapper.. he was "aiiiiight".. $10 cover Very intimate venue... like really intimate... like the stage is a 10 inch raised platform in the corner of the lounge. Bartender at On the Rox is a fox! Melony was her name?? She is top notch. Drink prices were about $7 out the well. Lots of cushy seating. I got the feeling you could pretty much wear whatever you want. Like if you wore your prom dress you wouldn't feel over dressed and if you wore your PJs you wouldn't feel under dressed. If you are there on a busy night the bathroom sitch could be a slight issue...

Situated on top of the Roxy...great to check out up and coming new bands!

So this obscenely crude door lady with a clipboard let us up after we told her who we were and who we came to see. She was hilarious. The place is above the Roxy, and is extremely small. The bands were pretty good and we sat next to some randies in a booth, but otherwise the booths are usually reserved I think. Drinks are typical hollywood prices. I think you have to know someone playing to get in. And oh...the scooter girl...the chick with high rainbow socks who was on stage, sitting down and out of her mind, writhing around to the music. Then she'd get up and ride her scooter around the floor. That was pretty entertaining.

awful experience, rude staff, also a fire waiting to happen with everyone smoking inside. avoid at all costs.

the venue is pretty tiny..the room is kinda stuffy...i know its an old place but the ground seems kinda unsteady too...bathrooms are single stall... i came to see an indie's band play #Kid Cadaver which they made a great performance. a lot of these new indies with such great talent... parking next door for 7 bucks. on sunset strip so its always traffic..

Wow. I just hired a babysitter payed a lyft and came to sunset strip from Silverlake to go to my dear friends birthday party when we first arrived they said they would let us in but not until 10:30 so after waiting an hour at the nearby bar we went back and the door guy was about to let us in after being rude and frankly sexist to my girlfriend and I the manager with blond curly hair and an ego the size of Texas said he 86ed my friend from this place and that she would have to go in a cab home if I wanted to get in. So being the good friend that I am left..60$ later wasted on this stupidity,

Great place with a great atmosphere that most will never see. That is because it is a private club. And wow...if those walls could talk. This yelp version is outdated as the club was recently remodeled by Matt Winter ( Gjusta, Malibu Burger ) and is cozy and sex. Great drinks. Amazing staff.

Never heard of the place until I was invited by my agent to the galore magazine party. He had me RSVP and whoever I wanted to bring with. Their way of looking at the list is like any other club. You have to know someone. Me and my gf waited 20 mins with maybe 15 other ppl slowly going in. Some guy comes out and pulls the door guy to the side and told he they are obviously models let them in. That's shouldn't matter. There was clearly suppose to be two lines cuz there was one sign that said on the list and another that said buy tickets. They seriously need to get their shit together at the front. I could see if it was just any day but the fact that it was a magazine party with an RSVP list, wow!

One day, I will die here. Until then, I guess I'll just live here.

I went here on Mother's Day weekend '13 to see a friend's band play. It is a very intimate venue, and the bartender we had was fantastic. Not only was she nice, and quick with the drinks, but she is one of the main reasons that I now live in Sweden today. She encouraged me and my friend to talk to some visitors, and BOOM, I'm in a new country. I wish I remembered her name. I would write her a thank you letter. Anyway, I'm not saying that you will meet the love of your life here, and that they will whisk you away to exciting European destinations, but it could happen. P.S. The bar next door (Rainbow Bar) frequently has Swedes and Norwegians visiting.... Just saying....

The newly remodeled On The Rox is awesome. They really cleaned this place up. The old place was 80s fabulous with booths and now its full of couches and lounge areas. I will for sure be coming back here in the near future. My only issue was there were not enough bartenders for the full house that night. It was somewhat frustrating waiting at the bar. I also felt there were too many people in the room. Other than that I had a great time and plan on returning.

This might be one of the smallest venues I have ever been too and where I experienced the Hipster movement for the first time. I went here because my friend an extra ticket and blantanly told me the ticket was meant for someone else and I was next on the list, which I was totally fine with it because "you snooze you loose." I was so close to the stage I could see individual drops of sweat dripping off the guitar. The drinks weren't bad at all and I remember paying $16 for a zombie and an AMF. Great night I rocked out and met new friends out here.

Came to see a friend's band and the mix was off, but whatever they rocked it hard! Drinks were typically overcharged but whatever.

ahhhhhhh soooo TINY! hardly any room in there~ the sound quality was not horrible but not that wonderful either. Went for album release party and tried to get wasted so when people step on me I wouldnt feel it as much lol.. the ladies with the drink specials are annoying and walk around in a small space to much! For Hollywood there was great parking and not that expensive at all!

Small and intimate. Sound was ok, but the sound from the Roxy under us was making the floor shake.

I wasn't sure how it was going to work with the band playing so close to the audience (while sitting at the bar, I was only 2 arms' lengths away from the guitarist), but the night was an overall success. I agree with the reviewer that noted it's cool if you know the band playing since it's a tiny and quite intimate venue - which also makes things VERY loud (kudos to the guy in our party who brought a bag of foam earplugs. He saved my night.) I like the acoustics and spaciousness of the Roxy better, but On the Rox is still a fun, laid back place to go for a change of pace from the larger West Hollywood music venues.

omggggggg it's sooooo small&cramped&dark&DIVEY&soooooo NOT ventilated here at alllllllll.........!!! but some reason it's always rockin!! i think it's cuz it's been around forever&the owner does a lotta PR to up&coming musician wanna-be's (including to a couple of my frenz HA!) &so becuz of that i give this place3generous stars. i'm ALWAYS sweating profusely in here even whent it's freezing outside for LA......!!!

Its hard to really rate this good or bad. It's kind of cool to be above the Roxy, in an even more intimate setting. Good setup, can kick back from the booths, or get up close, and with the size, you're basically in the show. They have a bar too, but I didn't partake, so can't speak to the service or the prices.
