We stayied at Ondina Aparthotel for four days - I was attending a conference on Othon Palace, next door, and brought my family to enjoy a bit of Salvador. Ondina Aparthotel is far from be a luxury hotel, but it´s quite comfortable. Reserving through internet, we got a 2-room apartment with two bathrooms, living room and kitchen by R$ 225 = US$ 130 / day (four people occupancy with breakfast included) - a good deal, considering the supposedly discounted prices for conference attendees at neighbooring Othon.||||The rooms were large, with good illumination and ventilation; both had air conditioning, as well as the living room (which is a must in Salvador). Altough comfortable and well kept, the apartment could receive some renovation: the decoration and furniture is a bit old. Also, we found our apartment a bit noisy since it was facing the avenue (ocean-facing apartments certainly are quieter, and the view should be amazing; but they charge ca. 25 % more for them and we did not think it would be worth the extra expense).||||Buffet breakfast was excellent: a good assortment of fresh fruit, breads, cold and hot beverages. Also, they can prepare omelets and tapioca (a local crepe made from cassava starch) on custom demand.||||Although the beach can be reached directly from hotel, it´s better enjoy the hotel´s pool: the beach is a bit dirty, rocky and crowded on weekends. Alas, the pool bar opens from 8AM to 5PM, but their choice of beverages is somehow limited (we enjoyed a delicious cashew "caipirinha", though). As for other attractions, the Barra region is within walking distance - for people with good legs, at least... To visit the old Pelourinho district, a ~R$20 - 25 (US$ 11 to 14) taxi ride is necessary.||||The hotel also dubs as residential building and as a mini-shopping mall: there are some stores In the street floor, as well as a decent pay-as-you-eat buffet restaurant (much better and cheaper than the hotel´s restaurant properly), a cafe, a car rental office and some clothing stores. Outside the hotel, there is a snack hut for those brave enough to take the risk - my wife enjoyied a huge hamburger with sidings, and she´s still alive...||||Employees were consistently corteous and polite; for example, the concierge man extended our check out time for three hours, to let us have some time to rest before going back to airport.||||I´d say that its an OK hotel: good price, good service, reasonably comfortable... a solid 3 1/2 "green balls", if this would be possible.
