I was really looking forward to my first hot yoga class with Paul Gere and even arrived early — but the experience ended up being really upsetting.
There are two separate doors at the studio, and the first one I entered was for “One Hot Pilates,” which wasn’t clearly marked as separate from the yoga space. I ended up walking around trying to figure out where to go, and by the time I got to the correct entrance, it was 4:02pm.
When I opened the door, Paul immediately told me I wasn’t allowed to enter — which I understood, since I was 2 minutes late. I said I was sorry and tried to explain I’d gone to the wrong door, and that I was happy to leave. But instead of acknowledging that, he spoke over me loudly, saying I was disrupting meditation and continuing to raise his voice even as I tried to step away. I ended up leaving in tears.
I completely respect the need for a calm, focused environment — but the way it was handled felt really dismissive and unnecessarily harsh. A bit more compassion and clearer signage would go a long way, especially for first-time students.
