One Stop Comics

Rick is a virtual encyclopedia of comic book wisdom and his shop, there's something surprising everywhere you look. I turned a corner and there was a fedora, a multicolored scarf, and even the TARDIS doors. I'll definitely be going back to explore some more!

When you first walk in it looks like total chaos but everything is definitely categorized. The shop owner is so nice and patient. He knows the shop like the back of his hand.

Really enjoyed my time here! They have a pretty large selection and the customer service is very friendly. Will be coming back. Edit: pretty well organized, easy to find what I was looking for. If you can't, Rick or anyone else will be able to take a look and help. I had a hard time finding the 6 part series of Kitty Pryde and Wolverine -- Rick was able to go to his back warehouse and locate all of them in under 5 mins, all in GREAT condition. I appreciate the great customer service.

I’ve passed this place for years without ever going in. After 20+ year comic hiatus, I stopped in to look for a trade paperback. Off the top of his head, the owner knew the issue numbers I was looking for. He didn’t have what I needed in stock, but it was worth the trip because this place brought back a lot of feels. The place is PACKED with comics of all sorts and some collectible comic book action figures and statues. They don’t make places like this anymore, so if you enjoy going through stacks of what seems like organized chaos, this place is for you. I’ll be back. If you’re in the Oak Park area and looking for some comic books you should stop in.

At first, I guessed that they were short staffed, so I accepted it. In an attempt to support small business. Then my Books arrived damaged, dinged corners. Nothing too crazy. But I stopped ordering for a period of time. A couple weeks went by and I decided to give them another shot. This time the books showed up creased in multiple locations. Oddly enough the box they were shipped in was not damaged. Indicating that they were damaged prior to shipping. I reached out, with pictures and I have yet to receive a response. The short story is, Comic customers beware! I really want to support small businesses, but not ones that take advantage of their customers.

This place is awesome. There's not many left like it. I took my daughter here combined we purchased 14 comic books.

Great place with lots of options for kids, especially kids under 8. Owners are awesome.

Rick is the best. He's an Oak Park institution. Support your indie comic shops. Screw Graham Cracker and all the other cookie cutter, faceless dumps.

Unfortunately, the owner of the store was trying to stiff me by only offering $875 for four books that were worth 8k-stated on the phone it would be 60% of market value his offer, which was very inaccurate-interestingly enough recently I sold one of the books for 2K.

Nice little comic store, has a large selection on comics, its a little hard to find the comics you want though because it is very cramped, owner is nice too

6/19/20 Ordered online through the new website (easy to order) and picked it up at the store. Rick has the place outfitted for COVID-19 standards and with new Marvel books coming out soon; we are ready to go back.

Place is cluttered and unorganized. The staff is very nice but this is the type of place to go in knowing exactly what you want and they can probably get it for you. If you want a casual browsing experience where you may discover new stuff this may not be that place. Prices seemed as average.

Decent comic store, but one of the most stuffed and crammed places I've ever been in! So it's hard to browse in back issues and find anything much. Didn't walk out with 1 comic the times I've been here.

This was my first time in there and I could have spent days in there and owner Rick was so nice and so was the cashier she was so nice and help. I do recommend this place pls come here it's big and filled with comics Marvel,dc you name it

This place has charm and character. Screw the negative nancies- I like this store and the enthusiasm of the owner is refreshing. Highly recommended.

I get tired of reading hipsters writing terrible reviews of the shop. You'll wear homeless people clothes, but not having enough natural light or having a cluttered store doesn't work for you? Ridiculous. Rick, the owner, is super knowledgeable about comics. He will chat you up for hours about them. He is a straight shooter and does right by his customers. I've mentioned 1980s back issues I had been looking for. A few weeks later, he was able to find them for dirt cheap for me. Sure the store is a mess, but so are a lot of retail stores. I've been to a lot of shops around the country. Rick and One Stop are a great shop. Lots of variety, subscription service, and non-sterile environment.

The store is [i]way[i] to cluttered, it's difficult to walk around the store let alone find anything. The unhelpful staff doesn't help either. I'd been out of the comic book game for a few years while living abroad and was hoping for some help getting caught up on what was going on with my favorite books and maybe buy some back issues. No luck. Looks like I'll be going elsewhere. Also, they have huge floor to ceiling windows that they cover up with posters and shelves so the lighting inside sucks too. That's right, I am hating on their lack of natural light.

Wide selection. Knowledgeable owner. If you're a contemporary collector, it is fine - but if you're looking for back issues this guy will rip you off. Rick(?) had what I was looking for, but informed me he doesn't price the comics until check out... Ok? I knew what I was looking for was valued at, and I figured each book would be a buck more or so. This guy looked at his computer (which is turned away from the counter) and informs me they cost DOUBLE what they are worth. If you can make the trip Dark Tower on Western/Lawrence ave is much better. And more reasonable. This place is perfect for oak park - overpriced and pretentious. I won't be back.

I called days before Christmas to see if they had extended hours, the man who answered said no but he will stay open if I wasn't far. I can't emphasize how much this meant to me. He knew a ton about the comics I was looking for and I recieved amazing service!!

Sooooo much stuff. Rick is eccentric but he knows his stuff and treats everyone nice.

Buy stuff from this cool and quirky local store, while such things still exist. The staff is usually uber-knowledgeable about the most obscure of comics. I echo an earlier reviewers comment regarding the store ambiance. There just aren't many places out there like this establishment anymore. If you are any sort of comic book enthusiast this store is a little chunk of heaven for you.

After reading the mostlly terrible reviews of this comic shop, my boyfriend and I were very skeptically that this place would be any good. However, once we went inside and found a lot of stuff we were looking for, we were surprised by how good our experience was. A lot of Yelpers said that this place is very cluttered. Cluttered is an understatement. There is stuff everywhere. However, the owner said he'd been getting his shop ready for Free Comic Book Day and that was why it was messy. It was difficult to walk freely around the store and awkward whenever someone else had to pass by. But this is because the shop has a TON of stuff including figurines, manga, tades, Barbies (which was really exciting for me), and of course comics. This guy has a ton of back issues that my boyfriend happened to need, which was good for him, but bad for the business (I'm assuming the amount of back issues means that no one bought them when they were first ordered). The owner of the shop must have taken the Yelpers' complaints about his bad attitude to heart because he was nothing but nice to us. He kept explaining the mess in his shop was for Free Comic Book Day and encouraged us to stop by, and he offered to find stuff for us if necessary. He didn't make me or anyone else feel inferior or guilty for using credit cards (another Yelp complaint). He did talk a lot and was rather friendly. His employee on the other hand was supposed to be helping him get ready for Free Comic Book Day, but stuck to farting (he seriously passed gas and made me gag) and reading comics. I believe he said hello to us, but didn't say anything else to us. All in all this shop is alright. I can tell that the owner really loves what he does and takes Yelpers' critiques to heart, which is something I rarely see.

This comic shop reminds me of the good ol' days when only degenerates and nerds went to comics shops and they were all dark and dingy, packed to the gills with old musty smelling boxes of old musty smelling comics. Not what I would call well organized, clean or friendly, but this place brings back such memories of my first local comic shop that I love to just walk in and stand around absorbing the ambiance. There is always an abundance of nerds milling about on Wednesdays, picking through the new comics and having the age old "who would win in a fight" debates as well as the "I liked (x) book better when (y) wrote/drew it" bitch sessions. Well lit, clean, family friendly comic stores can kiss my ass... This is the way comic shops were meant to look, smell and be experienced. There is no giant game area in the back where 12 year olds play Magic on Tuesday nights and Warhammer on the weekends with a Mt. Dew IV Drip. There is no acrylic encased display of ultra rare, certified mint condition except for the off center staples copies of anything behind glass that will never sell to anyone ever. This place is a shrine to people who _enjoy_ and _read_ comics , not a place for collectors to whip their copies of Amazing #129 to see who's pages have yellowed less or who's Uncanny #129 is rated .02 points higher by CGC. That being said, this place is huge, packed to the gills with back stock and incredibly difficult to navigate, due to the stacking of boxes EVERYWHERE. There is a section up front by the window that I've wanted to browse for over a year or so, but every time I look at the mountain of crap I would have to scale to get to it, I just give up. Do you have an allergy to dust? You shouldn't go within 10 feet of this place without a full face respirator. This place isn't for everyone. It's pretty hard core, very nerdy, very nostalgic for me and I love it in small doses. Even though it is 4 blocks from my house, I only go 3 to 4 times a year to pick up very specific things. This is not my primary shop despite my gushings about the atmosphere.

I love comics, but I don't like the whole super-testosteroned capes-and-tights books. That puts me in a minority of readers, which influences my review. This place was definitely geared more to the superhero fanbase. I did find a few of the things I was looking for, but the shopkeep told me they moved a lot of their alternative titles to the new store on Belmont. If you are claustrophobic though, I'd be careful here. It is a maze of boxes. I had a hard time figuring out which parts were storage and which aisles were for customers, and I'm still not quite sure. Still, It does the job for the most part, and since it's right off the El, pretty convenient.

I give this giant cluttered comic book store two stars just because its sooo packed to the brim with comics,action figures,statues,posters,etc,etc...the problem is the owner and the layout of this place...cool shit is sitting everywhere but I can't tell if this is just a storage space for cool stuff or is this guy really trying to sell merchandise...some products are sitting on top of each other to the ceiling...I don't think the owner could reach some things if you actually wanted to buy them....lol...and the owner is pretty obnoxious and a scammer and makes up prices when you get to the register...Really!!! He tried to sell me an action figure for waaay over what is was worth...avoid this place unless you absolutely have to have that special something this store has and you are willing to be ripped off...i just went on ebay and found it cheaper...if someone with some business and organizational skills took over this place it would be the best marvel,DC comic book store around...sad! Well I went back and gave this spot another chance....saw a figure in the cluttered window that I wanted to buy...Worker told me oh yeah we haven't gotten around to pricing that yet so no go...well is there a day you can give me when that will happen so I could buy it...answer nope...so I leave empty handed...Yep place is still a giant dirty cluttered storage facility for cool comic book shit...I will never be back...lol

I collected comics as a kid then I discovered girls. I had a great collection from what I remember but lost them all. I recently decided to get into comics again for myself and hopefully for my son to get into and we'll have something fun to look forward to do together. I started going to One Stop approximately 6 months ago, I had been to a few other places, but once I went here I knew it was gonna be my spot. This place is my sanctuary! Rick is great, funny, nice, and informative. He doesn't push you to buy extra stuff for sales sake, provides info/in site and even lets you know when things are not necessary. I really love this place and like Rick...wouldn't mind having a beer or two with him.

This used to be my comic book store of choice, but it's not even worth it anymore. I don't understand the appeal of the whole 'vintage cluttered comic store' look. It's messy, dusty, and impossible to find anything besides single issues. The staff is what I despise the most. The older guy that owns the place is a JERK. I don't know if it's because I'm a woman or what, but he acts like he knows way more than you do. Plus, he will give you attitude if you don't pay with cash. If you have an option to go to another comic book store, do it. After Chimera opened, me and my friends never visited this awful place again!

I should say right off that I'm probably not a typical customer (or, therefore, typical reviewer) of a comic book store. I don't read comic books and have no personal interest in them. But I got a tip from a friend that this was a great place to find Pokemon cards for the kids, and I'm so glad I did. A huge improvement over trying to buy them in a big box store because they have the latest stuff, and the owner knows what's what and is willing to educate clueless moms. He's also wonderful with young kids--super-helpful in giving them advice and just a generally good guy. I took my 8-year-old son and his friend there and (after giving them this awesome spiel re: why not to trade with older kids and re why the way to get rich is to study hard and get a job, NOT to try to earn $ with collectibles), he even gave them each a freebie card or two, flipping through an old book to find something they might like to add to their collections. Super sweet. You definitely get the idea that he's doing this as a labor of love. If you find the staff unhelpful, I'd try asking for the owner (or maybe even call ahed to find out when he'll be here). The place is BEYOND cluttered, sure, but that's part of its charm. This IS a comic book store - you go here to buy comics, toys and collectables, so get over the idea that it should look like Office Depot....take some time to explore and enjoy.

First time visit. People seem to focus on the shop being cluttered. I'd expect no less from any decent comic shop. It may be cluttered, but it is organized meticulously. I walked in and immediately felt at home. Rick was friendly, upbeat and ready to give me a quick rundown of the shop. I felt welcomed immediately. I found a great shop close to home where I can keep myself stocked with plenty of Kirkman and Superman reading. I'm also getting curious about Battle Pope! I'll be visiting this place monthly.

I've used One Stop Comics for my subscriptions for a couple of years now and it's a great store for all your comic needs. Rick's been in this business forever and has an wealth of knowledge when it comes to comics and trade paperbacks. This place is a Chicago comic landmark!

The owner just seems lazy and there seems to be no effort to organize the mountains of boxes full of back issues. It is a shame. I came in to pick up the latest Uncanny X-Men issue and asked if he happened to have any MiracleMan issues and instead of telling me which ones he had, he told me he did but that they would cost me a lot of money. He spoke to me while he swept around my feet. I later asked him if I could see some X-Men or Uncanny X-Men back issues and he then went on some weird, irritated explanation about how he couldn't show me because he had boxes of back issues waiting to be inventoried and how he had really old comics behind the counter, yadda, yadda, yadda. I guess the unwanted tour of his dusty and smelly establishment wouldn't have been so bad had his breath not reeked of alcohol. There seems to be lots of cool stuff there but you can't see it; the owner either doesn't care, has no business sense, or is just not that smart. I found my experience with the place to be very unprofessional and frustrating. It appears to be a grown man's version of a really cluttered boy's bedroom along with the same attitude in the owner's speech and appearance. I'll drive a few extra miles to another comic book shop next time to avoid feeling like my business is unwanted. If you have to go here go for the new releases and know what you're looking for beforehand. Go in and out as quickly as possible and avoid talking to the owner if you can; you'll leave a smarter person if you do.

The staff have always been nice and helpful, and it's a very convenient place to pick up more card sleeves for our collections. I was a little disappointed when I realized that I could have paid less for Pokemon starter decks elsewhere. (I thought such things were only found in nerd havens.) However, I was pretty impressed by the selection of things in this place. It's a little cluttered but the staff can help you find whatever you need.

I'm only giving 3 stars because I only stoped by to take a look. They where still moving and re-arranging they're stuff in fromt their other shop that closed. The customer service is awesome . I was greeted and asked if I needed help with no hesitation. If your looking for anything in particular this shop is deffinetly the place! I will be attempting to return in the near future fir some issues once I do my comic inventory.

I just read an article about how all comic shops are supposedly disdainful of their customers, so I felt like I should dispute that here. This shop is the best of both worlds--it looks like an old-school comic shop, sort of dim and dusty (which is part of its charm), but you'll never get the "gatekeeper" attitude from the employees. They love comics and they want to help you love them too! If you tell them what you like, they can make great recommendations, and talk knowledgeably about almost every series (and associated movies, tv shows, etc). As a parent, I also appreciate that they have a separate section for the kid-appropriate books, and they are good at giving recs for the kids as well.

Hey this was one of the 1st places I went too when it was by The Brickyard...now it's coming back to Belmont and Central...SWEEEEETTT!!!!! That Is All!!

The best store for DC and Marvel ever. The owner knows all and tells you the best storylines to read. I would go there because I worked by there. He would randomly give deals to me too. I was semi new to DC when I shopped there and he never made me feel stupid for my dumb questions. It is cluttered but it's a comic book shop and that's the best part. It's a refuge for comic book lovers.

simply put one of the best stores to drop into for extra little gifts for friends. or yourself :P lots of comic books / related toys / merch. lots of misc gaming stuff, along the lines of card games, and maybe random stuff like hero clix. not so many board games but a nice selection of what they focus on. you will find a lot of random stuff. this place doesn't feel corporate. the owner is very friendly. played friday night magic there for a while. prices seem fair. i live in the suburbs well outside of chicago, and the shops around here are the same prices on packs of cards. very nice.

Owner gave me a tour. A little bit overwhelming. The shop is a mixture of passion, coolness, and an episode of hoarders. The owner said he has a million comics there and I believe him. It's worth the visit and he was very friendly. If I lived closer I might make this my regular store.

Ok I once worked at this shop... Many moons ago. Got to agree it has always been cluttered but I have always enjoyed digging for the good stuff. If the back issue collection is the same it was in the 90's this shop ( oak park store) is great. So much good stuff you will never, never find at organized stores. It is cluttered cause Rick is a real hoarder. The back room was the gold mine. Like X-men early issues in good condition. Early Spider-Man. Plus all the nic nacs you could ever want. I live in Cali now and I have found stores with good collections but nothing like "one stop". Rick, the owner, is crazy but he knows comics.

I collected comics when I was 12 and sold my collection when I started high school. Started again in my mid 20s (I'm 46 now), and this place is a Jewel in Oak Park. The owner has been in the business for years and is very nice and helpful. The variety of comics and trades is second to none. I went to Graham cracker's for my comics for a little while but it was like going to McDonalds when you can go to a classic steakhouse. I think of the place as 'Rick's" because that is the owners name. Couldn't recommend the store more. Something for everyone. His statues for sale are worth the visit alone.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. Talk about a price gouging scammer. You can't raise the price of comics to $75 dollars a pop the week they are new. I called your distributor and DC and reported you for this illegal act. I understand the 3d comics got allocated for everything this month, but it does not mean you screw all your customers over and sell brand new comics at a premium. DO NOT GO HERE!

One Stop Comics is definitely and old school comics shop, which means it's packed to the gills with stuff. If you can get past the clutter, there's a lot to like. Manuevering through the store can be tricky, especially if there's a lot of people shopping. There's obviously a lot of comics, and comic related stuff to browse through. New comics are located on the main rack and they usually have a good supply of new comics on hand. If you can't find something, the owner is always willing to track it down for you. The staff is friendly and helpful.

I have recently gotten into reading comics. And this is probably the best comic store that I have been to since I Have started reading. It has the same selection of new books as any graham crackers that I have been to and from appearances the back issue section is huge. I didn't look threw them because I am currently only reading a few new books but the back issue section took up a big chunk of the store. The staff was really friendly and they had back issues of new books that other stores didn't have cause they were sold out. Good store, good prices, right off the ridgeland green line stop. Def worth going to, looks kinda crappy from the outside but is really nice inside with a good atmosphere. Good store!

I'm a Youth Services librarian and have been to the store on a number of occasions on work-related business as well as just out of curiosity as a fan who is relatively new to comics. The place may be cluttered, but the stock is impressive and the owner is frankly...AMAZING. He knows more about his field than anyone I've ever met. He loves people, is kind and generous with the children who come in the store, and has hooked up the library with catalogs and offered free consultation to us in the past, not to mention coming out (on his own time) to hand out things and talk to kids at our mini comic con we did last year. I've come to realize that the comics business can draw passionate people, but also some disreputable types. This guy is as genuine as they come and he really believes in educating people on comics and encouraging a love of comics (and reading!) I secretly think he's a closet librarian :) Don't let the clutter put you off the store. You will get great service guaranteed.
