We stopped here after visiting the Botanical gardens which is a must stop. You definitely should stop here afterwards to get some shaved ice or a smoothie. The friendly staff here are amazing and try the food here as well it is equally as great . If you like pickles don't leave without trying them. We had the pulled pork on a bun with pickles on the side. Shaved ice with ice cream, strawberry banana smoothie and a Pina colada smoothie. All were excellent!!!

Google
I tried to order a milkshake, but that item was unavailable. Then the awesome dude taking my order offered me a "smooshie!" He said he could add a scoop of ice cream to any smoothie. I went with the Sunrise (banana/mango/pineapple/lilikoi) and it was better than a shake or a smoothie! This is a little family run business that is a joy to visit! Small, but beautifully decorated with a lovely outdoor seating area. The gift shop is a treasure trove of exciting, uniquely Hawaiian items like Ulu (breadfruit) pasta, hand crafted bath soaps, and fresh mangosteens (the "queen of fruits!") Highly recommend OCM for a yummy treat and a fun browse!

Google
We got lucky and happened upon this spot and LOVED it. Great service, friendly people, and the food was delicious! We got the pork, shrimp, sides, papaya with ice cream, and some other local ice creams from their freezer- everything was so good!

Magical Pancake

Google
Bang for your buck isn't great(low quantity of food) but serves up decent grinds and decent pit stop if you're out here. They have some local chocolate and coffee that was super expensive we picked up as gifts. They have bathrooms you can use.

Google
What a wonderful stop. Great local items gifts, drinks, I've cream and a great kitchen. There's plenty of seating. I highly recommend visiting whether you live here or are showing guests. Well done 🤙🏼

Little corner grocery store/farm stand/cafe. Bathroom is upstairs. Very friendly helpful staff. Good pit stop on the way to Akaka Falls. The food was so delicious and hot. Kalua Pig and shrimp. They help support the butterflies with donations and crown flower shaved ice. Lots of drinks to pick from.

Google
We enjoyed some fresh fruit & shave ice from this little shop along the scenic drive yesterday. The service was fast, friendly & helpful at deciding flavors. Enjoyed our shave ice on their lanai.

I ordered the Surf and Turf with potato salad...I gotta say, 10/10. Best shrimp I've EVER had, the pork was so tender and smokey. Rice was deliciously fresh and the potato salad was seasoned just right with the perfect creaminess to boot! Finished every last bite to myself, I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place! Mahalo for your sweetness and the love I can feel in your food. ❤️

Yelp
I came here for a quick bite with some friends, after visiting the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, before we hit up Botanical World Adventures. It's a quaint and super low-key spot. Very demure. The food was pretty good too. It's also a good place to shop for souvenirs while you wait for your food. The service was great! Everyone was so nice. We done at the tables outside the shop. There's also more tables upstairs. The bathroom is upstairs as well.

Yelp
Lonely little obscure market, carrying some produce, some drinks some other snacks but houses the famed Piilani Kitchen, a local cafe with Fresh panini sandwiches and other tasty dishes

Lisa H.

Yelp
Onomea country market Needs to change or remove the menu as they do not have the restaurant part anymore- for over a year now. Pi'ilani Kitchen is the restaurant now and has a completely different menu, staff, and service. Pi'ilani Kitchen has really fantastic food and great service! Look at reviews for the last year, older than that just doesn't apply anymore! Thank you

Yelp
This little market is a little oasis on the north end of the most beautiful drive you can imagine. The market specializes in shaved ices, sandwiches, toast and tacos. I ordered the street tacos and my daughter had a vegetarian sandwich. The street tacos are filled with barbecued pork, slaw mix, pineapple and cheese. The pork was sweet and juicy - very good. The salsa on the side was pretty watery. Food took about 15 minutes to come out. Servers are friendly. The cafe has clean tables under the covered patios. There is limited parking so people were parking across the street. There is a single restroom open to guests. Inside the market is a small selection of local gifts, beverages and a few grocery items. All in all, a great little spot for a snack or lunch.

Yelp
We stopped by this place because of their high ratings, but we were left pretty disappointed. SERVICE: Service is so slow. My husband went inside to order and was not even greeted to order. He really had to wait to even be asked what he wanted to order. It took 20 minutes to get our iced latte. FOOD:We got 2 sandwiches (pesto margarita and the Turkey one). They are not only very small, but the bread was the standard grocery store sliced plastic bag bread. The sandwiches were also very greasy. They were sandwiches we very easily could have made ourselves and will stand out for their lack of flair and creativity. It would have been nice for them to have some sides, too. My husband's sandwich was BURNT. We overheard the table over from us received RAW fish for their lunch. I would hesitate to give this place a try if you're very hungry. There are other local eateries with plates that pack much better portions for the price and just taste a lot better, too.

Yelp
This is our second time at this country market and this is the best pulled pork I have tasted. I normally do not like pork because of the gamey after taste but the way this pork is cooked is perfection. We had it with the rice, Mac salad and fresh fruit. We have tasted the tumeric rice, purple potatoes and coleslaw, but they were out. A little disappointed about that because we love it so much but we will just have to come back. Great service with the aloha spirit and cute little store with local made products.

Yelp
A perfect place to stop for a coffee, snack, breakfast, shave ice or gift. The outdoor covered seating area is breezy and lovely. The store itself is stocked with artisanal gifts and edible products- think local coffee, honey, jams. They are also stocked with a small variety of grocery items and snacks (Costco brands). On our visit, we got a couple smoothies and an avocado toast. The smoothies taste like real fresh fruit, not sugary flavoring or ice cream. The avocado toast was pretty and tasty but hard to eat because everything was in chunks so it fell off.

Yelp
Food-5 Stars! Service- 10 Stars! Ambiance-4 Stars! I'm specifically writing about the Piilani kitchen! Great consomme (soup) for dipping your panini sandwich in! Good chips! Great pickles and onions! Small drinks $$$

Yelp
They are both convenience store and restaurant and just a turn away from the highway. we stopped really for the shaved ice. But they have other locally made trinkets and some other yummy snacks as well. There is a nice patio where you can relax and eat. We had my favorite lemon lime shaved ice. No trip to Hawaii is complete without a scoop or two! Tip: they have a clean restroom but only for patrons.

Yelp
Great food, we stopped here after Alaska falls for a quick snack and break! Nice homey little place to recharge. Has some nice local chocolates, honey, coconut and cheese selection. Kids enjoyed the games and was in no hurry to leave!
google avatar

Yelp
Was here for a work meeting on the patio with lunch service and i have to say this was the best meal I have probably ever eaten! The mix of farm fresh ingredients and creative presentations and food pairings was absolutely on fire. Definitely eat here if you're in the area! Amazing coffee and treats as well.i

Yelp
Cute little stop on the road which at first I thought was only "shave ice" but turns out they have coffee, shakes, ice creams and it's a little store of locally made products. Nice tables to enjoy your plate lunch. Good coffee.

Andy D.

Yelp
The food was amazing! If you are checking out the waterfalls area north of Hilo, highly recommended for lunch!

Yelp
The staff is so sweet and so helpful! We love coming to this market and grabbing some shave ice & smoothies for a sweet snack. Super relaxing seating area & Clean Bathroom outside. There's also a basketball court across the street with a beautiful view.

Karen R.

Yelp
Perfect stop as we head up the Hamakua Coast! Lots of good local items, friendly service and chocolate too!

Yelp
a great spot for shaved ice. They are fast, the shaved ice is delicious, and it's not outrageous expensive - $3.95 for a really nice sized snowball and 3 flavors. the outside patio is covered and really clean.
google avatar

Luke R.

Yelp
This is a magical place. A country market featuring local produce and regional products with its own butterfly sanctuary. Interesting, friendly and knowledgeable staff with a passion for their island and commitment to stewardship of the land. Excellent menu with plate lunches, sandwiches and the BEST shave ice of the three islands I've visited. House made lilikoi syrup and fresh lilikoi on top. Gorgeous! All that and on a scenic drive that will mesmerize you.

Yelp
Hidden gem. Great food, nice people, fast service! Try the surfer girl....it's yummy. Our family of 5 lived our food! Must try!

Yelp
Beautiful roadside market near Hilo. If you're visiting 'Akaka Falls, be sure to stop by and grab some shaved ice or a plate lunch. They also have a great collection of chocolates that I indulged in.

Yelp
An absolute favorite place of ours on Hilo side. The food is SO GOOD and it's so wonderful to have access to delicious and unique foods with locally grown ingredients and local flavor. Love the shop's vibes too with all kinds of fun goodies from local artists, makers, and farmers.

Yelp
Wow! Wow! Wow! What a gem. This place is so quaint with outdoor picnic tables in the shade--with an ocean view. And the food is delicious! I loved the avocado toast, and my son loved the daily bowl. And the baked goods were to-die-for! Mahalo, Onomea Country Market & Cafe!

Arthur S.

Yelp
New owners, new chef. This place is awesome! Try the kim chee ruben. We met the owner (I think his name is Jeff) and he was super nice. Great place!

Yelp
Great service, great food and great views what else you need? They were also doing a butterfly sanctuary fundraiser! Feeding bellies and protecting nature. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
WOW - a Big, HUGE BLAST of FLAVOUR‼ Fav so far was the Lilikoi (Passionfruit) - Lychee - Mango with a Snowcap ... then there was Chocolate Macadamia Nut ICE CREAM MMMMMM‼ Seriously May be THE BEST Shaved Ice I've had on the Island

Maria G.

Yelp
This is a lovely spot. Shave ice was great, and having it at the tables was fantastic. The store also sells all kinds of local goods.

Jane R.

Yelp

Yelp
Great roadside stop for shaved ice and lunch plates after our visit to Akaka Falls! Friendly service, delicious meals (my daughter said they are the best street tacos she's ever had!), and refreshing shaved ice. Great flavors including lychee, honeydew, and pineapple.

Vanessa A.

Yelp
Today I got the greatest avocado toast of my life at this cute little market off the beaten path. I went down the scenic road and I'm very glad I did. If you're in the area definitely stop by!
google avatar

Cristina F.

Yelp
Great place, and super sweet people! Shaved ice is OFF. THE. CHARTS. This will be a regular stop from now on.

Carla S.

Yelp
Don't stop here. Overpriced, meager portions. They were missing most of their sides when we stopped for lunch. They didn't bother telling us they were out of breadfruit with the loco moco until we'd gotten our food. Tourist trap.

Andy L.

Yelp
Small local place. Great prices and treats. We mainly stopped for a drink, fruit and shave ice which was really good. Friendly stop in a small town.
google avatar

Eugene O.

Yelp
Nice people. Big price, very little serving. One small slice of bread with pesto a few vegs and a little cheese; $11.50

Mel S.

Yelp
Great little farm stand, restaurant. Very friendly and helpful staff, wish I could take them home with me!
google avatar

Richard K.

Yelp
Always a great stop after a hike down the Onomea Bay Trail - a refreshing shaved ice and a quick shopping trip for local coffees, chocolates, and fruit served with family hospitality.

Brad K.

Yelp
Great menu. Fresh fruit. Lots of local sourced good stuff. Off the beaten path but that's not a bad thing!
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
Stopped in for the refreshing shave ice. We also REALLY enjoyed the local chocolate bars and yummy sweet breads! The girls working were delightful to talk to. Great little place to grab a snack!! Highly recommended.

Debra B.

Yelp
Shaved ice flavor explosion - lychee, lilikoi, mango with a snow cap. Wow. Small store too with snacks, meat and unique gifts.
google avatar

Yelp
I was waiting for my family while they were zip-lining in Honomu and had a craving for shaved ice. This place appeared on Yelp and it was only a few mins away. The employees were all SOOO friendly and super helpful. I asked them to help me pick flavors since I never had shaved ice before. They created a concoction and handed it over. It was AWESOME!! If you're in the area, I highlight recommend them. It's a clean and welcoming place. The shaved ice was better than I expected.
