Stayed one night in the private room while backpacking. Not ideal for people with luggage as there are very steep stairs and narrow hallways, and just not a lot of space. Pros: - Conveniently located - SUCH COOL VIBES - I LOVE THE ART!! Please let us know more about the artists of the building! - Shared kitchen and living area - Some people might be uncomfortable, but I loved the fact that it was cool and the futons were so warm - Quiet policy after 9 or 10pm? I don't remember. I appreciated it since I had horrible experiences at other hostels not enforcing the quiet policies. Guests were respectful as well. - vibes vibes vibes Cons: - OLD building and everything that entails (creaky floors, little soundproofing, poor insulation, patchwork renovations) - Showers and bathrooms could be cleaner and updated. It was pretty cold and dark, but I guess not stinky? haha What little I interacted with the staff was fine, more reserved and introverted was my impression? Or they were very busy this weekend. Not really a con since they were helpful! I'd love to stay again and try the cafe next time. It feels like a chill place and I can't wait to visit Onomichi again! (hipster cafes, dessert shops, local artists!!! zines???!! cat stuff???)

Stayed here with a group of friends after cycling the Shimanami Kaido. The location is perfect, down a main street in Onomichi, down an old and very beautiful alleyway. We were sad to stay only one night! Rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated, and the shower rooms also had beautiful mosaics and very good pressure! We were offered a discounted ticket to a local onsen, but sadly we didn't have the time. Definitely would stay here again :-)

Quiet chill environment. I'd made a mistake when booking my room and staff just got on with it and didn't make a big deal. Which is really nice when you messup like that. 😆 Can't fault anything. Its down a narrow passageway in the shopping street. Nicely presented place with lots of character.

The house is tastefully designed with a deep touch of history. It’s very cosy but quite cramp. There are many beds in one female dorm, however noise or disturbance is not an issue. The walkway are pretty narrrow. Not suitable for large suitcases. Maintenance is required for the toilets and the shower head has broke. It’s also quite dark. Much cleaning would make stay more comfortable. Overall, it’s a convenient and valuable stay.

the utterly beautifulest guest house i've stayed in in all of japan and probably the world. the group who runs it also actively is reviving other (formerly) abandoned buildings, and creating extremely tasteful local workshops, cafés, galleries etc. in their place. there is a heavy focus on art and creativity, with a pleasant balance of old and new. retro vibes are strong however! so is the human touch. breakfast at the similarly tasteful (Akubi) café is also super cheap and tasty

Nice house, small spaces, the corridor to entry the hostel is quite tiny, the mood of the guy at the reception doesn’t not give a great vibe to the ambience, it might be good only a night before or after going to the islands but no more

Really great guesthouse with nice common rooms and service. Very nice ambiance. The japanese breakfast was really good. You can also enjoy the cafe in the afternoon, it’s very cozy.

We stayed overnight with a family of four in a private room. You have really fluffy tatami beds, so nothing to worry there. You can lock the room for short time leaves. The rest of the facilities are shared with the whole hostel. There‘s a kitchen, individual shower rooms, toilet and several „meeting“ rooms. We‘ve met a lot of interesting and funny people and I can say I liked staying here. The only thing missing was a bigger sink in the bathroom, but they are working on it.
