The 6 Best Hot Spring Hotels in Taiwan - AFAR

"Set in the mountains of Miaoli about 90 minutes from central Taipei, this west-coast hot spring resort is a 64-room hideaway built around a standout open-air pool framed by rolling tropical hills. Many contemporary-feeling rooms have individual hot spring tubs for private soaking, and the property offers separate areas for swimsuit or nude bathing. In April and May the surrounding forest lights up with fireflies at dusk, adding a memorable natural display to an otherwise tranquil, off-the-beaten-path retreat." - Clarissa Wei

My recent stay at Onsen Papawaqa Hotel in Miaoli left much to be desired. While the location offers potential, several aspects fell short of expectations. The room condition differed noticeably from the images provided, showing signs of age and wear. The so-called “onsen” experience was basic, offering little more than a hot water soak. The dining options were adequate but unremarkable. However, the most disappointing aspect was the customer service. Staffs interactions often lacked warmth and attentiveness, which significantly impacted the overall experience. Considering the price point, the value for money was questionable. While some travelers might find the hotel suitable for a brief stay, those seeking a authentic onsen experience or high-quality service may want to explore other options in the area. As with any accommodations, personal preferences vary, and guests are encourages to research thoroughly before booking. Last note, they offer free bottle of infusing oil for 5-stars google review, guess that how the price come about.

Beautiful mountain side hotel. Service is attentive and the overall experience is quite magical. I would definitely return. Travellers tip: make sure you request a room with a river view ! Thank you for such a oivekt stay.

A hotel built on the mountains! Gorgeous view from the hotel room. Room layout could be better... the toilet, basin, and onsen area do not have separating doors, and there is not a single hook in the shower/onsen area. We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel. Food quality is above average. The live station manned by 刘师傅 is excellent. The pan-fried fish served during the dinner, and the egg pancake served during breakfast are among the best I have ever eaten.

What a beautiful place! I didn't want to leave. Onsen Papawaqa is beautifully situated, surrounded by mountains that provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxing and refreshing stay. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and will do their best to help you (even booking us transportation to go strawberry picking nearby!) There are many options for hot springs (public and private, naked and covered) that left me feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Breakfast buffet (included) and dinner buffet (at additional cost) had a lot of variety and was delicious! Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved this onsen experience ! Especially Dali, he’s the worker from the little cafe. He’s very welcoming and explained a bit the indigenous culture ! The only thing I would recommend for the hotel is to do something about the charger plugs, they didn’t worked really well Otherwise it was fantastic

First time experiencing a hot spring hotel! The stay was enjoyable and relaxing, wish we had more time in the hotel. The breakfast buffet was so yummy too!

Beautiful location to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The room is large and comes with a variety of amenities, including a coffee machine and traditional chinese tea set. The private onsen is lovely and has the option of adding cypress essence, a lovely scent. The breakfast and dinner buffet provided isnt much to rave about, selection is wide but the food itself is not great. There is tea service with nice black sugar cakes and lotus seed sticky cakes which were lovely. There is sparkling water was a fun addition where you could add a variety of syrups to taste.

Yelp
This place is in BFE, talking out of the way. Very secluded on the banks overlooking a river . Service is attentive and from checking to delivery of your luggage. The rooms are decorated modern and rooms are super sized with a large spa tub for two. The spa is great there are five different pools to soak you old bones in .make sure you wear a skully to cover your head becouce they are anal about it the will give you a plastic one if you don't have one . It's a very relaxed atmosphere and nice place I will be back on my next trip to Taiwan later this year.
