Onyria Marinha Boutique Hotel, nr Cascais, Portugal - Explore & Book

"Portugal's aristocracy began decamping to the scenic Estoril Riviera for sunshine and play in the 19th century, hence the plethora of hunting lodges and crenellated mansions along this coast. Laid-back luxurious leisure is still the watchword at this spacious hotel, set in the exclusive environs of Quinta da Marinha, a short drive westwards from Cascais, inland from the Atlantic. Run by the Onyria Group (who took it over from Martinhal in 2023), it's perennially popular among i-escape readers looking for an easy but pampering holiday with or without kids. At nearly 100 rooms, it may be large – by our standards anyway – but it offers a fun vibe plus golf and excellent service. On our most recent visit we were pleased to see that despite the transition there's still a cool playground, and the Atlantic pool provides plenty of space for all. Our bedroom was supremely comfortable; our son declared the bathroom was the biggest he had ever had! Why not enjoy a treatment in the spa whilst the kids make glitter tattoos or try their hand at yoga in the excellent marine-themed kids club. There are wondrous beaches and coves nearby (much of the coastline is protected), and day trips to Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra are easily arranged. Highs Good kids facilities including an excellent playground, bikes to hire, year-round Kids Club, and a choice of three pools!Parent pampering in the excellent spaWe loved the sleek, spacious rooms in hotel and villas alike, and were amazed by how quiet they were insideThe staff are stellar Lows The transition to new owners is on-going so more changes may be on the horizonThe lovely free-form Atlantic pool is open June-Sept only and is unheatedBear in mind that it's aimed more for under 10s, but teens can enjoy air-hockey, swimming, surfing nearby and day trips to Lisbon or Sintra" - Nadine Mellor

Lovely hotel in a relaxing, quiet area. Good facilities and activities for the family. The breakfast was fabulous and Alvaro made it even better - a friendly welcome every morning. We stayed in one of the more modern villas which is nice and airy. Hardly heard a peep from anyone around so got plenty of sleep. We didn't try the spa or the golfing but I heard they are also good. The location is lovely if you want someone peaceful. It is a little out of the way so you do need to rely on the hotel shuttle, ride shares or a rental vehicle.

We stayed as two couples in mid-June and had a really enjoyable experience. The rooms were incredibly spacious and felt luxurious – plenty of space to relax and unwind. Despite being summer, the hotel wasn’t overly busy, which made for a peaceful and relaxing stay. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly and welcoming, and the location is fantastic — just a short drive from Cascais and the beautiful coastal area. Breakfast offered a good variety of options. However, the egg station could be better managed: there were a couple of mix-ups with omelette orders between tables, and only plain or egg-white omelettes are included without an extra charge. It would be great to see more egg dishes offered as part of the standard breakfast, especially given the room rates. We didn’t use the pools or spa, so can’t comment on those, but the gym could definitely use a bit of a refresh — it felt dated and underwhelming compared to the rest of the hotel. One thing we really appreciated was the quiet and peaceful atmosphere — there weren’t many children around during our stay, making it feel even more tranquil. Overall, a great stay in a beautiful setting with a few areas that could be improved to truly match the five-star feel.

Our 6 night stay at Onyria Marinha was very enjoyable. The villa (2 bedrooms) was spacious, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. My husband, mom, and I thoroughly enjoyed our spa time, and the dinner at the hotel was a fantastic surprise - absolutely delicious! I even asked the waiter to thank the chef on our behalf. Since this wasn’t peak season (we intentionally travel during off-peak times to avoid crowds), our overall experience was even better. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here in April and loved it. We intended to stay here for 2 nights, and extended for an extra 2 nights. Yes this hotel is family oriented and that's why I loved it. I appreciated the focus on my child, instead of making me feel like my child is an inconvenience. There's a large play park for kids as well as activities throughout the day for our little guy. I appreciated the daycare service offered that we were able to include in our stay so that we can have alone time as parents. Breakfast was great, no complaints. The property is very clean, cared for and maintained very well. The staff is very attentive and helpful. A nice little touch was the personalized room keys and toothbrush we received upon checking in. Would recommend staying here when in Cascais and will definitely be back.

A true hidden gem in Portugal, beautiful in every way. But to really be 5 start room service and basic service from staff should be 24/7.::::

My partner and I recently stayed at the Onyria Marinha Boutique Hotel for four nights for our 6 year anniversary, and while the location and some aspects of our stay were pleasant, the overall experience left much to be desired—especially for a 5-star establishment. Room: The room was fairly clean, although we found a dirty kettle, and it was missing an iron. The lighting features were nice, but the TV/remote was occasionally unresponsive. The bed was very comfortable, and the view was decent. Unfortunately, the room wasn’t prepared upon our arrival. While the flowers were there as promised, the champagne and strawberries, which were part of our package, arrived much later. To top it off, we found a review card left behind by the previous guests, detailing similar issues. It was a disappointing start. Service: The front desk service was chaotic and disorganized. They seemed unaware of the details of our package, including the champagne and strawberries. At first, they suggested I “check by the TV” for the missing items, and later claimed they didn’t want the ice to melt, even though we waited an extra 5-10 minutes for our room to be ready after check-in. Breakfast in bed was included as part of our package, but on the second day, we were told that this was only valid for one morning—until we contacted the manager of their sister hotel to confirm our full four-day package. Even then, we were almost charged for room service during breakfast on one occasion. The front desk staff were dismissive, and they never inquired about our stay or offered any final accommodations when we checked out. On the last day, despite arranging late checkout in advance, we received a call asking us to confirm our checkout time, adding to the feeling of disorganization. Staff: While the front desk was disappointing, the bar, restaurant, and spa staff were fantastic. They were friendly, conversational, and made us feel welcome. A special shoutout to the bartender, who made a delicious sangria and shared the recipe with us! Although we had some issues with spa access (the hotel didn’t have our complimentary access on file), the spa staff kindly allowed us entry, for which we were grateful. Amenities: The gym is small but functional, and the pools were nice, though we were surprised to find that drinks weren’t allowed by the boutique poolside. The breakfast was decent, though they forgot to bring butter one morning, and the fruit selection was inconsistent. The spa facilities were great—complete with a sauna, steam room, hot tub, and indoor/outdoor pools. Location: The location of the hotel was one of the highlights. The setting is serene and surrounded by greenery, perfect for a peaceful getaway. It’s about 10-15 minutes by car to the more touristy and commercial parts of Cascais, which we didn’t mind. Dining: Bar food was just okay, but the restaurant really stood out. We especially loved the T-bone steak, which was perfectly prepared. Value for Money: Unfortunately, we didn’t feel like the hotel lived up to its 5-star rating, especially given the service issues. While it’s affordable compared to other luxury hotels, the service we received was closer to that of a 3- or 4-star experience. Recommendation: I would recommend this hotel for short stays or casual trips, but not for special occasions like anniversaries. The management communication and overall hospitality need serious improvement to match the luxurious setting and reputation of the hotel. Other Issues: Housekeeping comes very early (around 9 AM), which felt disruptive. Additionally, the management’s lack of communication, especially regarding specialized packages, made for an inconsistent and frustrating stay.

Lovely location with large, well equipped rooms and a great restaurant and bar. The breakfast has a variety of different foods and dinners are very tasty. The bar staff really know what they’re doing when it comes to making cocktails. All of the staff are friendly and helpful, their English is a bit hit and miss but you can manage.
