Onzoshi Matsurokuya

When I came here for the first time 4 years ago, it wasn't so hyped and the wait wasn't so brutal. Today I came back, but I think this will be my last time. It was so hot waiting outside, I had a heat stroke. And even if the food is good, I don't think it's worth it. There are so many good restaurants serving quality wagyu these days, I think you're better off paying a little more for not waiting. Food is good if the wait is less than 30 minutes. It's not amazing to die for, it's just better than average. If you really want to try, I suggest coming before 10:40, if you're first 15 you can get seated when restaurant opens at 11:30. Otherwise you have to wait for 1st group to finish.

We passed by this place not knowing what it is but saw a long line. We later tracked this place down and decided to give it a shot. This place only serves 30 meals for lunch so we got in line over an hour before it opened and were the 10th in line. At about 11am, staff will come out to take your order (only one option available for the main course @ 2,000 yen, but you can decide to add on sashimi for 600 yen or not). Doors open at 11:30 promptly, and we were seated on a table with another couple. Food was great, we enjoyed it a lot. Make sure you stay for the dessert too. Everything was sold out by the time we left. So go early!

If you like standing in line for an hour for the experience you might like this restaurant. The food was pretty much the same as anywhere mid-range in Tokyo (okay but not amazing) but queuing from 11am to be seated at 1210pm is not worth it. It's a gimmick for kiddies and tourists. Don't do it unless you're one of those.

Came here for the lunch special and it was completely worth the wait. You get an incredible value for what you pay. Top quality Wagyu with an assortment of side dishes for around ~$19. They only serve a limited amount of this set a day (30 for lunch), so line up early! One of the more memorable meals that I’ve had in Tokyo in my past 3 visits.

How long would you wait to have an amazing wagyu lunch set for 1800¥? If you're willing to do at least an hour, this is your place. Limited seating and limited 30 sets, so expect a long wait. The beef was absolutely divine (not even factoring the price) and they offer quite a selection of sides and flavorings to add to your beef. I recommend honestly keeping it simple and use their sweet tare sauce to compliment the rareness of the meat. Afterwards, they provide you with tea to make it "ochazuke" style to wash down all the remaining sauce and rice in your bowl. An amazing experience.

Love the beef lunch set at this restaurant. Pre-pandemic, you needed to queue about 1-2 hours for the lunch set (since quantities were limited), but they have since moved to an online reservation system and no longer have a queue. Tastes just as phenomenal as I remembered, and the price is a steal for the quality of the food.

Meat texture is chewy and not fatty, almost has no taste so I suppose it is not wagyu at all. Definitely not worth to wait 1 hour of queue for lunch. The ritual and side dish are interesting but I would have spent 2000 yen for another meal.

Get here early! I'd say if you are in line by 10:15 you should be okay. (Their lunch set is only available for 30 people!) 1800 yen for some amazing beef accompanied with tea, side dishes and dessert. A must visit restaurant in my opinion.
