Plan a Trip to Zurich This Summer (Yes, Really)

"There’s been an explosion of ethnic restaurants here, like the izakaya Ooki."

Slightly above average ramen, okay udon and downright terrible karaage (fried chicken) that tastes like it was bought from a supermarket. And the suggestion of a tip when paying (minimum of 5%) is just downright crass

Small restaurant with a lovely interior. The food & drinks are delicious and the staff is very friendly and efficient. If you can't get a reservation there's a chance at the bar or maybe outside in summer if you're there when it opens.

Phenomenal ramen in Wiedikon. Zurich has many really great ramen places and this one is right up there with the best. The tonkatsu was really authentic and tasted great - especially on a rainy day. The restaurant has a traditional Japanese interior design and the staff is really friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed my lunch here and will be back.

Delicious food and especially Ramen! There are many options in the menu for tasting these fantastic dishes. Very good and professional Service as expected.

Very good ramen, got to be one of the best ive had in Zurich. Gets busy, and we had to wait for a table for a while but we still got one despite the place being fully booked!

Stopped by Ooki spontaneously and had a fantastic experience! The food was authentic and delicious served quickly with warm and friendly service. I can especially recommend their katsudon and ramen, those are very tasty! Furthermore, they even let us stay 30 minutes past closing - truly great hospitality, can highly recommend!! PS: During lunch time they have a special offer where you pay a surcharge of 5 Francs for 5 extra Gyoza (which is a steal) to your ramen!

I live in Asia but stopped by for a layover to see some friends. My friend recommended this and this is the best Japanese restaurant I’ve had in Europe. It was just served delicious food even by Asian standards. We got the gyoza, Katsu curry, and the tan tan men. All were well executed. The restaurant was also dog friendly.

Best Japanese in town. Ohitashi is absolutely delicious. Their Yuzu- Mayo served with Ika No Karaage is mouthwatering. Tonkatsu is crispy and crunchy as hell with juicy pork chop slices. The Hiyayakko is silky and smooth. And to top it off, service is top-notch, friendly and welcoming. Say hello to Mai, he will take care of you. Ooki feels like home.

Yelp
Good food and atmosphere. I really enjoyed myself here, but the amount of hype it gets is not justified in my view. It's very good, but there's better Japanese Restaurants in ZH.

Yelp
This place really blew me away. The tonkotsu ramen had absolutely incredible umami flavor and the chicken karaage was super crisp and flavor. I've heard that this place gets busy, but it was easy to make a reservation online and there were plenty of empty tables when I arrived at 8:30pm Tuesday night for a late dinner. The atmosphere is very intimate and very Japanese. I'm a huge fan of the wood paneling everywhere. 10/10 would visit the next time I'm in Zurich.

Yelp
This was the top ramen shop I wanted to try out out of all 3 places I wanted to check out. Do y'all selves a favor....make reservations prior...Zurich is all about making reservations. Me and my friends were lucky enough to just wait 30 minutes to get a table for 4. I ordered their Tonkatsu Ramen. It had a nice solid brothe to it, just missing a slight kick that a tonkatsu ramen generally has but still hella good! The noodles were slightly firm and it accompanied the brothe well. I had a WHOLE egg to myself and it was slightly runny which you know a damn fact makes a ramen more wholesome! The other bits of toppings were good as well. My friend order their Miso ramen which I gave a try and I'll say fora fact that it was lacking a bit in what a Miso ramen stands for. They were TOO generous with the bean sprouts which ruined the whole ramen experience for my friend All in all, I had a solid experience here but can't say the same for my buddy. Definitely them a try!

Yelp
Ooki has a few negatives so let me get this out of the way first: - In the weekend you need a reservation (and days in advance! I tried making an online reservation on Thursday for the weekend and they were completely booked). - They do not open for lunch in weekends. - I wish they served Oden Despite this I absolutely want to give this Izakaya a five star review. They absolutely get the atmosphere of a Japanese Izakaya which is super hard to find in Europe. All the Japanese staff is super accommodating and friendly plus they are super prompt despite the fact that the place is always filled to the brim. Obviously, since it is an Izakaya, they quite a bit of drink options but they have even more options on their food menu. True to Japanese style their food is simple but oh so good! Their gyoza are superb, not at all comparable to the frozen jobbies you typically get in your average Asian joint. The Tempura is light and fluffy and their Tantanmen are super addicting. First time I took the medium spicy version thinking that it would probably not be very spicy as Swiss spice is typically lame but I was on fire! This is a must have dish. Everytime I go I over-order and over-eat but all their dishes are just amazing so this is a true treat if you love Japanese food. Highly tecommended!!

Yelp
1. Make a reservation for this place. Their. online system is quite easy to use or just gove them a call. This place has the best seasoning in my opinion. I find many Japanese spots in Zurich quite bland but that might just be my personal preference. I like my dishes well tasted and seasoned. The food is just amazing and I absolutely adore the interior. Its gives off a very nice vibe.

Yelp
Food was kind of good despite the price BUT the staff is just atrociously horrible. The waitress was beyond unfriendly and low-key insulted us due to us not terminating our meal. She picked at our food and made inappropriate comments as well as ignoring our risen hands multiple times, obviously brushing us aside while not even being busy doing anything else. Incredibly long waiting times. A perfect example for a lazy work-attitude. While I did like the food, such actions are simply egregious and by the way, ordering a vegan meal costs 1 CHF EXTRA for no apparent reason. She even made mistakes like putting twice the amount of items onto the bill, in an attempt to steal our hard-earned money. Items on the menu are set to a lower cost than their actual price. If you are looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Zürich, Yu-an is by far the better choice. By the way, she even went as far as telling us that chicken gyoza tastes like vegetable gyoza, ridiculous. These and many more were the reasons for us not even enjoying a dessert in the end.

Yelp
In one word: Awesome! Looking for authentic Japanese ramen? This is the place. Ooki San is the ramen master and his tantanmen is incredible and addictive. Ino is the restaurant manager who recommends eating early (tables are scarce around 20:00) Gavin suggested tantanmen and, if you like spicy ramen - this is your dish. I'll expand on the review as I experience additional dishes.

Yelp
They have 3 vegan options on the menu, and I appreciate having options as a vegetarian. The vegan spicy miso ramen was outstanding. The flavor of the broth was unlike anything I've had in the US. My only regret is that I got full before I could finish the entire bowl- and now I can't stop thinking abt this luscious bowl of delight. We may be separated by an ocean, but I will be back if I'm ever back in Zurich.

Yelp
Found this gem on some backstreet of Zurich. I got the veggie miso ramen and veggie gyoza...and it's probably the best thing I have ever eaten! The broth was so flavorful and fresh, just delicious.

Yelp
Love every little detail, the menu is beautiful the place itself is well decorated and you can feel the authenticity. I know that I will eat there loads of times in the future, it's delicious and real, they aren't trying to sell you some fake story, they are clearly doing what they love doing, you can taste that!

Yelp
Japanese Izakaya-style casual restaurant/gastropub. (I've never been to Japan, so this is judging from having been to other places like this in Europe. Plus, it's what their name says.) Was busy on a Friday night with the usual Kreis 4/5 crowd but with some luck or waiting, you'll get a table for two. Staff is friendly and quick. Atmosphere is casual but pretty noisy. Open kitchen, which is nice, but unfortunately their exhaust system is not the best. When someone orders tempura, the place incl you will smell of it. Most importantly, food was decent but nothing to rave about. Only veggie ramen/udon option is veggie ramen which comes in a generous portion for a fair price. But there was just nothing special about it, no exciting flavours, tasted good but basically like noodle soup. My friend had beef, which was tasty but the dish just looked so sad, just some rice with beef and the saddest-looking brown sauce. But maybe this is what Izakaya means and I should just go visit Japan already to educate myself.
