On my first visit to Ukraine, I joined a group dinner at O’Panas, a local favourite recommended by residents. Nestled in a lush park in central Kyiv, the restaurant offers a peaceful escape—one that momentarily makes you forget the realities of wartime.
This was my first experience of authentic Ukrainian cuisine. At first, I noticed similarities with dishes from Poland and other Central and Eastern European countries. But the standout was the Kyiv-style chicken cutlet: incredibly tender, and when sliced, it revealed a stream of hot, herb-infused butter—absolutely delicious.
The Ukrainian borscht was equally memorable, a vibrant beetroot-based soup packed with hearty ingredients. O’Panas is a wonderful place to savour traditional flavours in a setting that feels distinctly Ukrainian.
