This is, by far, my favorite NYC event of the year! OHNY is part of a thrilling international organization of over 35 cities, that essentially give you the "keys to the city"! Of course not every door is open, but personally, as an attendee, for 15 years, I could spend hours talking of the amazing sites I've seen and experiences I've had! Truly, this organization cultivates and celebrates an interest and appreciation in NYC architecture, design, and historic preservation more than any other I've come across in my life living here. Oh, yes, it's FREE TOO!!! Their annual event in October is FREE! There may be a $5 reservation fee for the higher demand sites, which have become so popular in recent years that they had to initiate this reservation system to maintain order at the sites request, but truly, with nearly 300 sites, I can't imagine anyone not finding a few sites that inspire, engage and delight. You'd be best to consult their website, get on their email notifications, and plan on attending their October event. The reservation system for the high demand sites opens in Sept and many sites fill instantly, so be aware and plan ahead! It's not often I get to attend the high demand reservation sites, maybe one every October, but I've ALWAYS had been able to see SO much to keep my OHNY weekend PACKED with sites and activities.
Insider tip: There are year round opportunities to see some of the high profile sites when they have monthly fund raisers to keep this not for profit alive! Volunteer or donate! I've cherished my experience's with OHNY, and I look forward to every new opportunity with them!
