24 hours in Frankfurt: What to see, do and eat - SilverKris

"A major cultural venue and opera house in the city’s cultural quarter, noted as one of the nearby attractions to visit while staying centrally; it serves as a landmark for performing-arts outings during a short city stopover." - SilverKris

One of Germany's if not Europe's best opera houses, it rarely disappoints. The new production of Cosi fan tutte did not disappoint either. Great singing, fabulous musicianship under the baton of Thomas Guggeis, and a modern but faithful to the text production by Mariame Clément all contributed to a great evening. A recent performance of Puccini's Manon Lescaut also hit the spot with great singing and a provocative production taking up the plight of immigrants. I also love the relative intimacy of the Frankfurt Opera as compared to the Metropolitan Opera for example.

Myself and my mum arrived at 19:35 and the show starts at 19:30. Staff at the ground floor told us to go to 3rd floor, after going to 3rd level, staff there said you better go to the 4th level as you are row 5 and we will let you in in the next entry. We waited for 20 minutes and spoke again to the 4th level staff and then he said we will let you in after the break (8:30 ). ! Went back to reception, to ask for refund as half of the show was gone , staff at reception said we can’t refund you as the box office team left. Really disappointed by the experience as I had entered several concerts before we never had to wait for this long. Poor management by the reception staff and waste of our money .

It is such an efficient and nice place to watch opera pieces. Made for this kind of event, almost every place has a good view (take care when choosing 3rd ring seats at the corners - obstructed views of the stage). Anyway, staff was very attentious help us to find best view places before the opera started

The seats are very narrow and uncomfortable for longer plays. The places on the left and right sides of the 3rd ring should not be ticketed, as you can see only half of the scene. As for the artistic value, the interpretation of "AIDA" was an abomination, pushing political/social ideology over music. They managed to turn one of the greatest operas into a festival of mediocrity. The performances, however, were pretty good. As for "Boris Godunov", it was fortunately a lot better, however the vocal performances were for the most part quite bland. Sofija Petrović as Marina and Karolina Makuła as Fjodor where the highlights, with a disappointing Boris and Grigori. Overall, "AIDA" was a 3/10, while "Boris Godunov" more of a 7/10.

It's a fantastic Opera House, but I was disappointed in the production of Manon Lescaut from the vocals to the orchestra. Just rather bland and boring. Totally missed the Italian style.

I've been here twice in the past months for operas. The sound system is flawless and the seats comfortable enough. However, it feels a bit cramped and can be hot and stuffy on a full night, as the spacing isn't as good as in the old opera house which is now only used for concerts and events. The translations, always in English and German, are on a screen above the stage, so I'd suggest Rang 1 or 2 if you prefer them to be at more or less the same level of your eyes. It's all cash only within - €1.5 for cloakroom and there are bars serving drinks and pretzel on the ground floor.

If u book rang 3 right/left, you only can see half of the stage or barely anything (see the pic). The construction was bad. A lot of people couldn’t enjoy the show and give up half way

There are highly uncomfortable sits, it is highly impossible to spend 4-5 hrs to listen to an opera. In Ryanair is more room for your legs then here. They have selling programme but only in Germany, I have asked for English version and I got A4 piece of paper with some information on it. Fortunately it was for free.
