Non existent wifi throughout the entire building and there’s nothing you can do about it. Lovely building, basic rooms. Excellent kitchen. Be aware the bus from the train station is not frequent on weekends. Push button showers, minor annoyance. Zero wifi is the biggest problem going back years according to older reviews here. The hostel should remove it from their facilities list. Good place for domestic tourists or cyclists because they all put their bikes in the entrance hall.

Such a lovely place with so many adorable details. Only 20 minutes from the next boulder gym and 2 minutes from excellent sushi. Extremely friendly receptionist, clean and a place to feel at home immediately. A rare find! And! Pet friendly!

I have stayed in many places around the world, but never — never — have I felt so utterly at home outside of my own house as I did at OPERA Hostel in Erfurt.||This place isn’t just a hostel — it’s a living, breathing soul.|It reminded me of the free-spirited magic of Burning Man and the raw authenticity of Sisyphos in Berlin — not through wild parties, but through the deep, organic, untamed warmth that fills every inch of it.||Every single detail at OPERA is crafted with love. It’s like someone asked, “What would a soul truly need to feel good?” — and then went ahead and fulfilled every single wish without missing a thing.|The interiors are a dream: each room is dedicated to a famous opera composer, wrapped in vintage style and a touch of bohemian spirit.|The lounge area is a sanctuary, where you can lose track of time reading, chatting, or simply being.|The kitchen — open 24/7 — feels like your own, always stocked with fantastic free coffee and tea, welcoming you like an old friend.|It’s better than most five-star hotels, because here luxury is not about money — it’s about soul.||Originally, I planned to stay for 2 nights.|I ended up staying 8 days, unable to leave this oasis of comfort and peace.|In fact, I made a major decision during my stay — I’m moving to Erfurt — and a big part of that decision is thanks to the warmth and magic that OPERA radiates like the very heart of the city.||And yet — the true treasure of OPERA Hostel is its people.|Florian, Nathalie, Yvonne, Eric, and Cosima — they are not just staff. They are the best reception team in the world, true artists of hospitality.|They don’t just check you in — they lift you up, make you feel seen, safe, and effortlessly comfortable, not only in the hostel but in Erfurt itself.|Their kindness, authenticity, and sense of humor transform an already beautiful place into something truly sacred.||If Sisyphos is the sleepless playground of Berlin, OPERA is its poetic little brother — a place where freedom and beauty slow down, stretch out, and invite you to stay a while.||Bless OPERA Hostel — long may it live.|I will come back, again and again.

Great overall! Only two things I personally didn't like as much: due to the building being quite old ("Altbau"), you can hear the other guests a lot when they're walking around - especially at night. To save water the showers are on a mechanical timer. This wouldn't be an issue if the timer wasn't this short and the shower head wasn't clogged up as much. Nevertheless, definitely would recommend staying here!

If you want to smell all day the food fron the restaurant nearby, you can sit here.Every night was very loud noise and smell like a dirty kitchen. The rooms doesn t have air conditioner and if you open the windows you would hear the noise from the employees ,slaming the garbage bin covers and laughing under our window. When we werecomplaining about this at the reception, the red hair girl was so angry. She said is a hostel, not a Hotel.I must not complain. The room was not cleaned for 7 days. The soap from the horrible bath was finished after 4 days. Not clean, not Quiet, not wellcoming. Bad experience

I stayed here for about two months in the summer during a work/study, and it was a fantastic experience. The staff were all extremely cool, down to earth, knowledgeable about the area, and very willing to help out. In fact, I've made a couple really good friends here. As for the hostel itself, the rooms and the bathrooms are very clean and comfy. The decorations really make you feel like your staying at a very interesting, very homey place. Fantastic place to stay :)!

Yelp
Amazing staff and service. The receptionist, Jessica, went out of her way to give me recommendations of places to visit and eat while traveling the city. Highly clean with a social atmosphere. Right above a Texas style BBQ restaurant.

Yelp
This hostel's major strength is that it's cheap. The hostel was overbooked when I stayed there with a group. You're forced to use an antiquated pay-for-internet-time system that works sporadically at best. The rooms are small. Showers are on a short timer. And, during a stay with a group, the hostel screwed up the reservation with no apology. If fact, the approach of the staff and the manager is that they're doing a favor by just being there. Maybe it works for Germans familiar with such an attitude. But if you're a foreigner be very wary of this place or at least be prepared to be insulted. There are alternative lodgings in Erfurt and Weimar. I would urge you to consider them.
