We had a memorable stay over New Year, arriving by train from Oslo. The hotel is as great as the pictures. The lobby area is reminiscent of the bank it once was. The reception staff were helpful and knowledgeable, making great recommendations for dinner and things to do. We loved our room. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The location is perfect - right in the middle of shops and restaurants and the picturesque harbour is a stone’s throw away.

A great hotel in Bergen, well placed for tourist attractions. Rooms were spacious, well equipped and very clean. Staff throughout were excellent and I should mention the desk fron team and the dining room staff especially. Breakfasts were terrific, amd we dned at the hotel one evening. It was a superb meal, beautifully presented and delicious. If you are staying in Bergen, stay here!

A luxurious hotel at a great location! ||The Superior Room on Level 2 faced the inner courtyard - room itself was small but the bathroom was very spacious. Both had a touch of elegance and the bed felt comfortable. We stayed for one night and the hotel is a stroll from the marina where we got off the cruise from Flam via Balestrand. ||Breakfast was sumptuous and we were also offered an aromatic tea and cookies in the afternoon, which was a pleasant surprise! ||The concierge is super helpful - had umbrellas and good suggestions for dinner. There are plenty of dining options in a hop-skip-jump. Go for a stroll in the city which has beautiful summer vibes.||Excellent stay - only negative is the size of room and the fact we had to lift around our suitcases in the 2nd floor area with steps.

The location is fantastic - across the street from the harbor, a block from the local train that is convenient to/from the airport, a 5 minute walk from the train station for service around Norway, 2 grocery stores around the corner and the base of Mount Floyen is a couple of minute walk. They did a great job of creating modern rooms in a well maintained historic hotel. The breakfast spread is a don't miss. The staff was friendly and helpful. Only negative is that the hotel is in the middle of a crowded restaurant/bar district and we could hear people outside late into the night (particularly w/ an 11:00 sunset)

A five minute walk to the Fish Market and harbor and a short walk to Tivoli Gardens. Lots of restaurants and shops are very close to the hotel. |The hotel used to be a bank, then a nightclub and now a hotel. Still has a a bit of a bank feel to it in the dining room. |We had a very cozy room overlooking a street with some shops and a hillside lined with homes. Since the room was overlooking the street, at night it was very noisy and difficult to sleep. We couldn’t close the windows because it was very hot. We asked someone at reception for a fan but never got it. We couldn’t call for a fan because there are no phones in the room.|I really enjoyed the breakfast. A beautiful dining room and you can eat at the buffet and also order off the menu.|Our only disappointment was having dinner at the restaurant. The food portions were tiny and very expensive. Way overpriced for the mediocre food. This was our worst Bergen dining experience. |Overall, I would return to the hotel.

We stayed in the Deluxe room, which is their largest non-suite room. It was reasonable size. The beds were comfortable by Scandinavian standards. The room was very quiet. I was surprised how weak the water pressure was in the shower, but this seems to be a common problem (likely due to some regulations) in Norway as all 3 hotels we stayed in suffered from it. The breakfast buffet was outstanding.

We found this hotel to be dated, the room very small and actually quite ugly for the price (£500 deluxe city view) and certainly lacking in charm. ||The blanket on the bed was dirty and the first thing we did was put it in the cupboard. We checked out early and went somewhere else for our second night. ||The room did not have a good view and the curtains were orange net curtains behind dark brown ones - so quite a different look to the website (think Premier Inn in the 1980s). The room felt cheap and dated. There was no water and no telephone. The windows don't open and it is not possible to control the temperature or the in room fan from the room. So on turning in we could hear the whirring of a fan, I went to reception to ask that it be turned off and was informed it was a master system for the hotel. I was told that I could have scanned a QR code instead of using a phone but I didnt know that as wasnt informed on check in. ||We had a drink at the bar the night before, only one person behind the bar on a Friday night meant a 20 minute wait. Breakfast was ok but coffee awful. ||I have had a response from the hotel to an email survey I sent back saying they were sorry for our stay. However this all came too late with no offer of compensation as it was obvious by us checking out early that we werent happy (and that was before we realised we could not open the window or control the temperature and noise in our room). It was also a little over £500 a night which is a rip off.

This hotel is beautiful… but completely fails on the basics. There is no air conditioning, and the room was over 26°C — it was impossible to sleep. We tried to open the windows, but it was extremely noisy outside, and there are no mosquito screens, so that wasn’t an option either. A hotel at this level should at least offer the bare minimum for comfort, especially during summer. If you’re hoping for a good night’s sleep, avoid this place. Very disappointing for what could have been a great stay.

Yelp
A boutique luxury hotel themed around the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, we stayed for 3 nights in a suite on the second floor. The room was lovey and very comfortable with a soaring ceiling, tall windows and expansive bathroom. We had a large sitting area with a couch and other furniture and being on the 2nd (European 1st floor) meant we could just use the stairs for our coming and going. Housed in a former bank, the lobby restaurant had an impressive feel and the central location-just a short walk to key sites, the ferry, and restaurants worked well for us. In general it has what you'd expect from a high end luxury boutique including prices. The disappointment was the restaurant and hotel bar. On our first night we arrived late from the ferry and stopped in to the tiny lobby bar for a drink. The whiskey sour from their bar men tasted like unsweetened lemonade and was almost in drinkable. On another night after a long day, we dined in the French Bistro themed restaurant and had an underwhelming meal. Not what one expects at this level of establishment. Bottom line-a great place to stay, just skip the hotel bar and restaurant.

Yelp
3.5 if they had that rating. the good: nice suite (Holberg) although ac didn't work (abnormally warm in Bergen) hotel had a spacious calming affect. service (bar, Front desk and esp the concierge was 5 star.) helped us in advance planning and dealing with reservations and a rebooking alternative to a cancellation. bad: Price completely out of alignment with facilities. no facilities to speak of (dungeon like fitness room) and despite what they have listed there is no "business center". front desk would print something out if you emailed it to them. after getting our bearings, almost switched to the radisson. suites are two floor, have a harbor view and HALF the price but didn't want to interfere with our trip. 5 star resort room pricing for in essence, a 4 star B&B.

Yelp
While staying in Bergen, I opted to give Opus XVI a shot and I'm glad I did. The renovated hotel is filled with old charm and has a beautiful aesthetic. The lobby is filled with satin sofas, velvet armchairs, beautiful wall work and several large crystal chandeliers right in the middle giving soft warm light. If you are debating on whether to stay at this hotel -- see below: Pros- * The hotel is central to almost everything in town; you won't have to worry about taking a taxi. * The rooms are clean and comfortable. * The elevators and stairs are close and always accessible. * The afternoon tea is well worth the price. The finger foods, scones and desserts were delicious. Cons- *The included breakfast that comes with the hotel room was subpar. I personally didn't like it and chose not to eat it. * My room was located near a busy street and it was almost impossible to get a good nights sleep. As I mentioned, the hotel is central to everything and by central, I mean it is close to several busy bars and restaurants. I can't tell you how many drunk men were singing at 2 in the morning. *The mini bar was by far the most expensive mini bar I have ever had to pay for in my life. I felt like I could have bought myself a plane ticket to the Voss headquarters and bottled my own water for cheaper. Do yourself a favor and get your waters from the 7/11 down the street. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. My recommendation upon check-in would be to ask the hotel staff for a room that is NOT near a street.

Yelp
One of the nicest boutique hotels we have stayed in. The people are so considerate and helpful. They made us sandwiches for our 4 am departure and arranged our transportation. The room was comfortable and very clean. They also have an attached restaurant where we had a terrific dinner with excellent service. If going to Bergen I suggest you try this gem.

Yelp
It starts with the breakfast, probably the best hotel breakfast I ever had and truly a reason I would return to Bergen. The buffet is incredible, starting with caviar, great smoked salmon, crabmeat, other smoked fish, multiple meats in the charcuterie section (fantastic prosciutto), a beautiful selection of cheeses, fantastic fruit (particularly the raspberries and gooseberries) and wonderful pastry (I loved having macarons for breakfast). If this is not enough, they also include very nice a la carte offerings, my favorite being avocado and bacon on toast (they had two vegetarian offerings for my daughter). It wasn't all about the food as the front desk also impressed me. The first night we asked for directions to a restaurant, rather than giving me a map and circling it (like I am used to), the front desk person walked with us outside the hotel, gave us directions from there pointing to where we had to go and even forced my entire family to take umbrellas. Similar experience later in the visit where again they gave us directions by going outside with us. I wasn't crazy about the evening turn down service (we were in the room one night and she was looking for any excuse not to turn down the room), where they also failed to replace the water with a mix of still and sparking (replaced our still with sparkling). Not a big deal but given how perfect everything else was it was noticeable. I even loved the tea bags they had in the room (ordered some from Amazon). The location is also a big plus. 2 minute walk to the fish markets and old town. Easy to go shopping, drop things in the room and go back out. I would return to Bergen just to come back to this hotel. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We showed up for lunch and left with a smile. The Potato & Leek soup was amongst some of the best I have ever tasted. We also had Mussles, Fish Soup and languista(msp?) which were all exceptional. Our waiter was from Portugal and was on top of his game. We sat outside and watched the people pass. Great location for people watching.

Yelp
What a lovely hotel. The hotel is in a lovely section with many shops and restaurants around. There is in fact a restaurant within the hotel. The room is sized well and very comfortable. Let me repeat that it's very comfortable. The bathroom is large, the shower is lovely and the towels were very nice. In addition the bathroom floor is heated. In addition I'd like to mention that the staff was wonderful. Very accommodating, very helpful.

Yelp
the opus XVI is a beautiful hotel right in the middle of everything in bergen. the rooms are absolutely breathtaking and clean. we had a really nice stay here. my one complaint is that the breakfast sucks. only cold food is available in the buffet. you must order all hot food including coffee. why can't they just put coffee on the buffet like every other hotel? i ordered eggs one morning and they were not good. i didn't even finish them. for the price that the opus charges, it needs to step up its breakfast game. otherwise, lovely hotel.

Yelp
This hotel should be more than 5 stars. It is a recently renovated and updated luxurious hotel in a historic bank building. The large room has all the amenities you could want: Hair dryer, ironing board, full mini bar, Nespresso machine, room darkening curtains, settee, robe, slippers, light up closet, USB chargers, very comfortable beds. There is a desktop tablet for use in the room with hotel and tourist info and for internet use. The bathroom is large with a heated floor, large walk in shower, toiletries, and the biggest, softest towels I have ever encountered (also the first wash clothes we have found in all of Norway!). The hotel is very clean with friendly, welcoming staff. The breakfast was delicious. You can't go wrong with the macaroons on the breakfast buffet. You won't regret staying here.

Yelp
The very best service at the hotels restaurant. The fish soup and wine pairing were exceptionally yummy! Omar could be our favorite waiter to date in our Norway travels. Hospitable, kind, and funny- be sure to ask for him!
