17 Best Bars in Berlin

"One of Berlin’s most beautiful watering holes, ORA (built as a pharmacy in 1860) retains its antique glamour with restored wooden cabinetry and vintage medicine bottles that mingle alongside the booze and exquisite glassware lining the shelves. But don’t think it’s trying to be a theme bar: The old pharmacy is simply left to shine as much as possible, blending right in with ORA’s modern purpose: expertly crafted cocktails, from classics to seasonal creations." - Krystin Arneson

Ora

"Housed in what used to be a pharmacy (Apotheke) on Kreuzberg’s Oranienplatz, Ora makes use of the building’s original 19th-century interior but adds modern furnishings and décor. The menu features tasty, seasonal food and excellent wine and cocktails, some of the latter lovingly prepared with local herbs and spices." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Where to Enjoy the German Tradition of 'Kaffee und Kuchen' in Berlin | Condé Nast Traveler

"Step inside ORA and you’ll find yourself surrounded by meticulously picked decor that pays homage to its past as an apothecary (think dark-wood medicine cabinets, high ceilings, and delicate stucco). Add to this some freshly baked goods and you’ve got one of the coziest spots in the city for a coffee break by candlelight. Be sure to try their cinnamon buns."

Hands down one of the most beautiful interiors in Berlin. The conversion from an old pharmacy to a bar is done with such respect for history. It’s nostalgic, and visually stunning. If you appreciate places with a unique identity and genuine vibe and great drinks (amaaazing ones), ORA is a must-visit. Pure aesthetic pleasure

This was a great way to celebrate a birthday. We took the tasting menu for 60€ - the highlight were the Caesar salad & its yummy dressing (look at that cheese on top 🤤), the gnocchis and the mousse au chocolat. The service was great, they delivered all the dishes at a good pace, enough for us to enjoy each course. The cute and original location (being an old pharmacy) was the cherry on top, making us forget about the loudness of the place. Some dishes felt like they could be a bit more sophisticated but overall really worth the price. Also, we had one apéritif drink each, but were hoping for something a bit more unique considering the ingredients mentioned. That being said, I'd definitely come back to taste other drinks and go through that tasting menu again.

We booked short notice for dinner and directly went from the airport. They had a little space for coats and small luggages, which was really handy! Really good ambiance for dinner and such lovely hosts/hostesses.

We recently held an intimate event at Ora for a women's community and it was absolutely amazing! Giorgio and the whole team made sure we were well taken care of! The atmosphere is so warm, the drinks immaculate and the food exceptional! We will definitely be coming back! 10/10 experience!

Google
The ambiance is unique as the restaurant is a former Pharmacy shop, and they combined the old shelves and interior design. We went for the tasting menu. All the dishes were delicious but our favorite was the BBQ pork. The negroni is really good

We went here as the final dinner of an extended weekend in Berlin and I could not have wished for a better experience. We were imediately greeted by the extremely friendly staff and were seated at our table, there is an incredible atmosphere and the theme of the old apothacary realy sets the mood for the evening. The food was simply amazing, the bbq pork in particular. The House cocktails are also very well made and taste great. 10/10 would recommend and visit again

This place is really something special. When I called saying we’d be running a few minutes late, the manager answered the phone so grateful for our call, as though nobody had done something thoughtful like that before. The space is so vibey and cool. We were seated in the upstairs room and told that we had the table for 2+ hours which usually when you’re told a time limit, it’s around 1.25 hours. Unfortunately we didn’t have as much time as they offered us as we were going to a concert. Every single bite of every single dish we had was exceptional. The kale gnocchi was out of this world. The cabbage was perfectly cooked. I wish I could have eaten slower because truly, every bite was better than the last. Excellent service. I can’t wait to come back!

Google
The food here is extremely delicious. Especially the Leberkas Semmel is outstanding I am saying this as a Bavarian with loads of Leberkas experience! Also the service is very friendly and highly professionel, and the location, a former pharmacy, is beautiful. A visit at Ora is highly recommended!

Yelp
While on a solo trip to Germany, I treated myself to a nice fancy dinner. Based on reviews, ORA seemed like the spot. What I missed was that it was a romantic spot. Whoops! Except the staff was amazing and made me feel comfortable. The seasonal tasting menu was well paired and the courses worked together. It wasn't too avant garde, although it was the first time I've had fried corn silk! The only con was they were overwhelmed by the rush and seemed understaffed in the kitchen as the output flow was not smooth.

Yelp
This is a very cool bar with a very cool idea. Almost all the furniture is from an old pharmacy. The bar is very spacious and so it has flair of a cafe/bistro in Vienna or Paris. It is a perfect place for a glass of wine or coffee and cake (the hazelnut cake was great!) but they dont offer real lunch or dinner food. There are some snacks though. The prices are pretty high in my opinion, yet ok to come and enjoy the atmosphere, but not affordable to become a 'stammbar'.

Yelp
Old apothecary, beautiful wood, countless drawers, nice vibe, hyper hip neighborhood & lovely park. White chocolate dessert memorably excellent, portions light, but tastes elegantly paired. Mushroom thing with stuffed pasta appetizer very nice. Bread & butter really good.....

Yelp
Fancy bar in old pharmacy with good drinks and cool ambiance. Service is very good and good drinks. Not so pricy as it could be. For sure worth to visit while in Berlin, especially while it is not so extremelly popular among tourists.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere but disappointing menu and cocktails. Pricey which usually doesn't phase me but tough to swallow when the drinks are both pricey and seriously lacking.

Yelp
An absolute disgrace to the culinary arts. Rude and pushy service staff. Beef cheeks like an old leather boot drowned in a watery, tasteless consome that was like scooped out of a muddy puddle on the ground. Sand in my braised kale that wasn't even cooked. Made an embarrassment of the vegan at the table even though we called ahead to make sure our mother in law could be catered for without a fuss. We changed the cured fish dish to the cooked fish dish but they brought out the cured fish anyway which had no flavour. An amazing example of somebody trying way too hard to be flashy and innovative without getting the basic principles of cooking right first. Terrible food, terrible service. One of the the top 5 disappointing restaurant experiences in my life. Place wouldn't last 5 minutes in Cali despite the fantastic decor.

Yelp
This is one of the most beautiful interiors I have ever seen anywhere, let alone for a bar/cafe. It's worth walking through this 100+ year old former apothecary just to enjoy the masterfully preserved and updated interior. The cocktails are excellent, probably even better than the 9-11€ price. A nice selection of craft beer as well, but this place is a cocktail bar through and through. It can get crowded in the evenings, which means that the cocktails can take a while to be prepared, but it's well worth the wait.

Yelp
Really cool place, an old apothecary shop made into a cafe. The decor is very classy, and the atmosphere is hip. I had a verbena tartelette and a cup of latte macchiato, which tasted good, the table next to us had some kind of pastrami sandwich that also looked great. I would recommend walking along Oranienstraße, and having a drink here, if not for the tasty cakes, then for the good vibe and the ambience of the old apothecary.

Yelp
Beautiful space, love that they have verbena tea on the menu, it's very rare, and the sandwiches and coffee were also delicious. Too bad I couldn't fit desert because they looked delicious. I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in Berlin.

Yelp
I went here just for cocktails and was duly impressed by the craftsmanship of the bartender. A peet-y, whiskey-based cocktail started the evening. Even the ice cubes are top notch. Though I didn't have anything to eat, the seats for dinner appeared in demand.

Yelp
Yummy breakfast, good service...they need to do something about the wasp invasion when sitting outside. They are everywhere today and it as so annoying that we ended up taking our meals to go. Otherwise, I would give them a 5 star.

Yelp
Very cool cafe/bar built in what used to be an old pharmacy. All decoration was faithful to the old place which did give it an authentically old European ambiance. I went with a group of friends on a Friday night, needless to say the place was packed, which unfortunately did affect service (hence the missing star). Nevertheless, it's a really great place to hangout.

Yelp
I almost want to keep this place my secret oasis but it deserves some acclaim as its my fave bar in xberg!!! First, the place is beautiful and different to everywhere else, secondly the service is consistently the best I've experienced in 8 months in Berlin - just go see for yourselves! Unpretentious, smoke-free and service with a smile - you could almost forget you're in berlin entirely! :)

Yelp
Went to Ora on Sunday morning with friends hoping to enjoy the meal but left frustrated after one waitress actually first forgot to place our order, then pretended that we told her we cancelled it, and then finally brought the order an hour after we ordered and did not even offer a discount. Food is good otherwise but don't expect to be treated nice especially if one of the waiters makes the mistake. And here is a longer review I left on Trip Advisor in case you want to read about the whole experience: "We went to Ora with friends on Sunday for breakfast. Waited for a table (which was just fine). After we placed our order, it took them an hour to bring it- even though everyone sitting around us had their order come earlier than ours. And its not like we ordered complicated dishes (they don't have complicated dishes anyway). So after about 40 minutes into our order I decided to go and ask. The spaced out waitress first did not remember our order. Then looked at the screen of her ipad and said she will check. Few minutes later, after I went back to our table, the second waitress came with yet again food for another table that came after us. She looked at us and asked what was wrong. I said we placed the order 45 minutes ago and it was still not there. After another 10 minutes (by this point we have been waiting for 50 minutes) she came back and I asked again- she told me she thought we cancelled our order (!!!) But that she would go and check. By miracle, exactly an hour into our order our food came. The first waitress that served our table apologized and said it was because the restaurant was crowded (which for some reason did not stop them from serving all the other tables around us who arrived much later than we did or were second/third customers after we arrived). The food was delicious. I am not going to lie here. Scrambled eggs with bacon on a french sourdough bread and poached egg on grilled chard and cheese were pretty damn good although not sure if it was worth the hour long wait. We hung around for a while. Ordered some more coffee (cortado is pretty good) and a dessert later. When the bill came I was surprised to see that they charged us for everything and did not bother apologizing or removing at least something from the bill. I am not sure how things are done in Berlin, but normally somewhere else you will have some of the items removed for such terrible customer service. We did not make a fuss but I decided to write a review instead. Long story short- go and expect good food but don't expect good service- not only they can be tat bit rude and snobbish but they also don't give a damn thing about customer satisfaction." It is a pity. I really liked this place otherwise. Especially in the evening for drinks. But this was pretty terrible experience otherwise."
