Experience of a lifetime. Ever since I was a kid, I fell in love with whales (especially Orcas!) and the ocean. It was always my dream to see some in real life! After months of comparing options, we finally decided on Orca Spirit Adventures and am so glad we did. Aside from the actual whales we saw, the overall experience was so much fun. A few highlights:
The boat / experience: If you want to feel like you're really out in nature and feel the ocean breeze on your face - do it. The waters are a bit bumpy at times, but that's what made it fun :) It's cold but they give you giant space suits that double as floatation devices to keep you warm. So glad my mom and I opted for this instead of an enclosed boat with restrooms.
Excellent tour guide! Our skipper/boatmaster Adrian, was extremely knowledgeable and made the 3 hour excursion so much fun! He was an absolute blast and pointed out so many interesting facts along the way about the islands, the area, Orca whales in general, and the specific pod we got to see. You can tell he really cares about what he does, and wants to give everyone the best experience.
The whales - obviously the highlight of the show! We were a lucky group that got to see a pod of transient Orca whales post-meal, so they were quite active. We got to see them breaching, playing around, and just existing. While the breaching and other acrobats were a bonus, I honestly would have been satisfied just to see them swim and come up for air every once in a while. Truly a breathtaking experience to see such beautiful creatures with your naked eye.
Highly recommend if you get the chance - this was one of the most memorable experiences in my life. Even if we didn't see whales, the overall boat excursion and side-tours we got to see on the way back (we stopped by a few islands to see seals/wildlife/sheep) were worth it. To be on open seas with your face catching the sea breeze is one of the best pleasures of life.
All in all, would absolutely go again, and recommend this for anyone who's not afraid of a little boat speed, waves, and adventure.
