Such a cool place! A very historic vibe, which I love. True character in this old hotel! I was kinda hoping to see a ghost, haha. Honestly though, my favorite part was the staff. The lady working the front desk area (I wish I could remember her name, she had dark hair, was very people-oriented, and seemed like she had really been there a long time based on her stories of the place)-- she was golden. I came into the hotel late one evening looking for a room for my family last minute due to a ferry cancelation that left us stranded on Orcas and unprepared. I was very emotional and flustered. This kind lady found us the best rate, and just showed so much empathy. She talked to us like we were humans, not naive travelers. She brought us cookies from the bake shop downstairs. Just those compassionate extra details that end up being the memories you cherish the most about a trip in hindsight. The next morning, the barista guy happily made a fresh pot of coffee when I alerted him that the one that is usually reserved for hotel guests was all out. In this day and age, I would almost expect an eye roll and worry that I am coming across as annoying and entitled if I tell someone the free coffee is out while they are busy with other things, but as I mentioned, the customer service in this place is just top notch, and the guy was like "I'm on it!" and was back in no time with a fresh hot pot. After the emotional rollercoaster the night before, my family and I left this place all smiles, and kinda feeling like it was just all meant to be in the end anyway. :)
