Orchid House Hotel Review, Mexico City | Hotels Above Par

"Set inside a 100-year-old former Spanish Colonial mansion tucked behind a gated facade and dense tropical plantings, this 17-key boutique hotel envelopes guests in overflowing flora and eye-popping orchids. Interiors retain an old-world feel with original blue-and-yellow stained-glass windows, weathered doors and baroque staircases, while the lobby doubles as a rotating showcase for artisans and contemporary photographers. Rooms feel homey with four-poster beds, side chairs and shelving; some upgraded rooms include small patios or terraces, and ground-floor standard rooms near reception remain surprisingly quiet. Many bathrooms evoke a greenhouse effect with marble-clad walls and floors, filtered drinking water is refreshed daily, and amenities include a daily continental breakfast, in-room coffee/tea maker and room service. Located in Polanco at a fraction of nearby luxury rates (rates start around $160) and rated five stars, it offers convenient walking access to top restaurants, parks, Chapultepec and the Anthropology Museum, with particularly pretty jacaranda blooms in April–May."

I had one of the most memorable trips to Mexico City, and my stay at Orchid House was a big part of that experience. The service from the staff was truly top-notch, they were incredibly attentive, kind, and thoughtful throughout my stay. Communication via WhatsApp made everything seamless, with requests answered within seconds. The hotel itself is stunning and beautifully reflects traditional Mexican design. The on site restaurant was also a highlight, with excellent food and drinks. I will definitely be coming back and highly recommend staying here.

What a wonderful experience! Lovely boutique hotel in great part of Polanco. The staff at front desk was excellent from their welcoming demeanor and communication to our pre-arrival questions. The breakfast was perfect way to start your day on the lovely patio. I will be back!

From the moment I arrived, I felt like more than just a guest — I felt like family. The staff went above and beyond to provide a warm, personalized experience, always friendly, attentive, and ready to accommodate any need with a smile. The property itself is charming and unique, designed to feel like a beautiful home rather than a typical hotel, which made my stay extra special. Breakfast was a highlight each morning — fresh, delicious, and served with care. Everything about my visit left me feeling relaxed and welcomed. I’m already looking forward to returning soon!

We stayed here in two rooms with another couple for 5 and 4 nights respectively for an aggregate cost of $3700. The positives are already well covered in other reviews and we experienced those, but two negatives prompt three stars: Most significantly, the water/and air in the bathroom in our front room (an otherwise nice room upstairs with a balcony where my spouse and I stayed) intermittently had a sewage odor. Not overwhelmingly strong, but certainly noticable. The second item, more irksome from a service/appreciation standpoint than substantive, was that on checkout I was charged 300 pesos (roughly $15) for a broken pressed glass room waterglass that after I did break it when rinsing it with bottled water in the sink, I carefully cleaned it up myself and brought it to the attention of the front desk when I gave it to them in a paper bag for disposal so the cleaning lady wouldn’t accidentally get cut. Especially given the fact that we were very courteous quiet guests (e.g, our traveling couple at check in were asked if they would agree to a room change the following day due to an event in the lobby the next night, which we happily accommodated) and the long stay and $3700, to me charging for the glass showed a lack of accommodation and professional courtesy if not poor judgement.

We had an excellent experience during our stay. The area is very secure and peaceful. It is also walking distance to the Museum of Anthropology, Soumaya Musuem, and Chapultepec. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I definitely would recommend staying here!

Some quirky rooms but a delightful boutique hotel. Staff are lovely and very helpful, the location is really quiet and near Good shopping and eating in Polanco. Walk to the national museum of anthropology, which is fascinating

We popped in for afternoon drinks on a Wednesday and it was a very relaxed atmosphere. We ordered a Gin Gin Queen and a maracuyá margarita. The premises are gorgeous and the rooms appear quite inviting. Great ambiance, tasty drinks and nice clientele.
