We stopped by Oretachino Curry-ya for dinner and were greeted by a bustling scene—the restaurant was packed, and rightly so. Despite the short wait, the experience was streamlined thanks to a self-service ticket machine at the entrance, which made ordering efficient and stress-free. Staff were courteous, quick, and professional throughout.
The restaurant maintained a spotless environment, impressive for a curry joint. There were no heavy curry or oil smells lingering in the air—just clean, inviting simplicity that allowed the food to shine.
We ordered both the chicken and pork katsu curries, each topped generously with torched cheese. What arrived was visually stunning: golden katsu laid atop a bed of rice, smothered in rich Japanese curry and a luscious layer of melted, slightly scorched cheese (as seen in the photo). It was indulgent without being heavy.
The curry sauce was deeply savoury, slightly sweet, and beautifully balanced—umami-rich without overwhelming the palate. The katsu cutlets were perfectly fried: crisp and light on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. The addition of the cheese brought an extra layer of richness and texture, making each bite more satisfying than the last.
Oretachino Curry-ya delivers a quintessential katsu kare experience with subtle refinements that elevate it above the average. If you’re in Osaka and craving a comforting, flavourful Japanese curry, this spot is absolutely worth the wait.
