Where to Stay in Baton Rouge, Louisiana | Condé Nast Traveler

"According to many guest reviews, this downtown hotel brings a youthful, design-conscious energy to Baton Rouge: rooms feel modern and bright, and playful shared spaces — an arcade, terrace, and colorful lobby — favor a casual vibe over formality; service earns consistently high marks and the location near the Shaw Center for the Arts puts restaurants, museums, and the riverfront within easy reach, giving it a polished yet approachable atmosphere with quiet nods to LSU spirit." - Jessica Chapel

I found this hotel relaxing. It’s a short walk to the Raising Cane’s River Center, casinos, downtown Baton Rouge nightlife, and other events. The staff is very courteous and knowledgeable of happenings throughout Baton Rouge. Their bar has a wide selection of drinks with a very knowledgeable bartender. Their menu is eclectic would try and true favorites and fusion between Americana and tasty dishes that Louisiana is known for! Overall, The Origin Hotel is clean and different in a fun and friendly environment. I plan to stay visit here again very soon!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Origin. The location downtown is great and walking distance to a number of bars and restaurants. The front desk personnel were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. A standout was Kort who provided great ideas of places to visit. I especially enjoyed Spanish town. You have to visit there when you come to Baton Rouge. My complaint is that the thrash cans was not emptied nor bed made and it wasn’t clear what the policy was. Great gym on fourth floor too. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

After a 14 hour travel day I finally checked into my room. I laid down to relax and there was blood on the sheets. I then turned on the tv (you can see in the photo below) it was broken. I went and told the front desk and they moved me to a new room. I got to my new room and ordered some door dash because I was exhausted. Around 10pm I decided to take a shower and my towels were wet! This was in the new room. It seemed like they were taken out of the dryer while they were still damp. So I went back down to the front desk to get new towels. I also felt like the hotel was dated and had damage on the walls (see picture). I was there for a conference and there were rooms set aside for everyone for this conference. Several other people said they didn’t have hand soap and one person mentioned it to the front desk and their solution was “well, you have body wash….” One of the people with the conference was staying in the Tiger Suite and their refrigerator wasn’t even working. I was shocked to see there was no microwaves. We were also given $20 vouchers to use at their restaurant by the coordinators of the conference. The first morning, there was only one waitress and one person working in the kitchen. They were not prepared for how many of us there were. They also kept charging the wrong card, so that was very frustrating. So needless to say I was not very happy.

The Origin is centrally located and made all of my downtown business trip spots easily accessible by foot. Everything was clean, modern and fun. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Parking in the side lot is $18 a day and super worth it. Also… the local restaurant Cocha is about a 5 minute walk. Highly recommend for the perfect locally sourced dinner and drinks.

We recently stayed at Origin Hotel Baton Rouge, and while there were definite highlights, a few missed opportunities kept this from being the five-star experience it could easily be.||What I Loved:||The room was clean and well-kept.||The bed was hands-down, the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever slept in.||The A/C worked perfectly, keeping the room at a consistently pleasant temperature.||The front desk associates were genuinely friendly and helpful, making check-in and questions a breeze.||Where It Fell Short:||The on-site restaurant and bar were a huge letdown. During my two-day stay, I never saw them staffed or operating. There was no breakfast service offered, which was a real disappointment when we went downstairs in the morning expecting it.||Despite the hotel’s LSU Tigers–themed décor, the bar completely missed out on the opportunity to create an atmosphere around the season’s first LSU football home-game. No televised game, no tailgate-style event, no energy at all—which felt like a mismatch with the hotel’s theme and location.||Overall:|This hotel has the potential to be a standout stay in Baton Rouge—great rooms, helpful staff, and a strong LSU theme that guests could really enjoy. Unfortunately, the lack of restaurant service and missed hospitality opportunities brought my rating down to 2–3 stars instead of 5. With a little more effort in food and beverage service, this could easily become a go-to destination.

The hotel is everything a great boutique hotel should be. Rooms are modern. LSU themed decor is fun. Restaurant on site is great. Staff were helpful and friendly. The ONLY drawback is parking. I don’t know much about the area as I usually stay closer to campus, but there were definitely some times later at night that parking on the street did not feel safe. The Origin has a small lot but was full over the weekend and not an option. No valet available at night. Parking on the street over the weekend is free, but starting at 8 am on Monday you need to pay for street parking which wasn’t clear either. I get that it’s a downtown hotel, but I am from Chicago and not at all an alarmist. During the day the area feels very safe, after dark it does not have the same vibe. They should employ security or offer 24 hour valet.

The hotel was clean & quiet. All personnel were very customer focused and kind. Parking was no problem in a well lit parking lot. We enjoyed happy hour one day and my wife had a decent breakfast every day. My only concern during our stay was the hours of restaurant on site. I understand management decisions to lessen staff during the typical off season slow downs but we generally choose hotels with restaurants for convenience. Maybe posting a seasonal restaurant schedule on the website could be beneficial for potential customers. We had no idea that Baton Rouge, being the capital city, had very little weekend traffic. We ultimately did find other options which worked okay for our stay. I also want to thank Robyn Evans for her follow-up on a billing error that just happened. Most likely because we paid Priceline well in advance.

Popped in town to meet a special person and see a concert and stayed at this lovely hotel. The room was nice the service was great and the area is in walking distance from lots of food and fun. I recommend if you are looking to stay in Baton Rouge this hotel has my vote.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at Origin for our Anniversary. They took amazing, singular care of us. When we walked in the room, the anniversary compliments and champagne were a nice touch. The card printed with our photos from Facebook was extra! Very thoughtful. The suit was fantastic. Huge room, great balcony, great bed, great breakfast, everything was excellent! Can't recommend higher. Thanks Origin! If we come back to BR, you are where we will stay.

Yelp
I stayed here for the LSU women's basketball March madness game. Location: excellent. Right in the heart of downtown. Lobby: very cute updated. Room: somewhat nice, but it was clean though. Would recommend to others. Just note, no parking only valet and street parking, so read the signs carefully!

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel and within 1 hour of staying here I started weezing and had an allergic reaction all over my body. BED BUGS. I literally saw one on me, ewwww! I checked out of my room and went over to the Hilton quickly after. This place has bed bugs and the staff who cleaned the room looked like high school students. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Yelp
After a long travel day, we arrived at the Orgin Hotel. It was 12:45 a.m., and we waited for the attendent to come. The doors were open and her purse was visible. We search for the attendant for about 30 minutes and after awhile my boyfriend finally went to get our luggage, while I called the front desk several times. No one answered the hotel's telephone. The front attendant finally showed up, after another 10 minutes, and she told me that she was outside in the vallet parking lot. I thought this is interesting and very odd. I then asked the attendant," Is it safe to leave the doors open?" She quickly replied," It's a safe area and I close the doors at 2:00 a.m. "The attendant promptly checked us in, put some purfume on, lotioned her hands and we left to our room. This was the first incient. Today, I reached out to the front desk to ask for my room to be cleaned. The front desk attendant was very nice and noted my request. After I went out and returned to my room, a few hours later, I found my room the same condition that I left it. I returned to the front desk to inquire about the reason why my room was not cleaned and the attendant replied, " The housekeepers already left for the day." Subsquently, the maintence person dropped off my clean liens and I completed the above task myself. I can tell you that I have traveled all over the country and internationally and I have never had to change my own liens. This was a the second issue that I had within a 24 hour period! I will never return to this hotel in spite of the warm and pleasant feeling that I received from the staff, with the exception of the "ghost attendant" who greeted us at the start of our much needed vacation. I would give the other staff a 5 out of 5. Last, I normally would not write a review, but this experience was forced me to act and not be silent.

Yelp
The outside of the hotel was very pleasing after a 21 hour drive. But upon arrival there was actually no parking lot it was street parking, they had signs for valet but it wasn't valet. It was 18$ a day but the lot could fit maybe 20 cars and it wasn't valet first come first serve. 20 spots for 80+ rooms doesn't really add up. We thoughts let's see the brighter side and went up to our room, the first thing I noticed was the tile was extremely sticky and there was a nasty brown gunk around the rim of the toilet. Once you sat on the toilet it was uneven and even shifted one night. We stayed 4 nights and not once did house keeping come around until we were packing up to check out. Very unhappy with our experience.

Yelp
It is truly a shame that this newly renovated hotel is run by such horrible staff. I arrived at the hotel to check in at 10:00 PM. I could find no one to check me in. This was because the front desk lady was asleep on the floor behind the counter. Slow night, I guess. The hotel is super cute, and the room is great. However, at around midnight, the fire alarm started beeping. This was not a soft beep but a loud, shrill noise that would jolt anyone from their sleep. I called the front desk, and of course, there was no answer. This scenario went on ALL night long. No one would ever answer the phone at the front desk. I got absolutely no sleep. When I checked out the following morning, I shared my experience with the new lady at the front desk. Her response was, " I was here all night, and I never heard the phone ring, that's your fault." I highly recommend staying a block over at the Watermark Hotel, where the staff is polite and professional. This place has hired directly from the bottom of the barrel. I would never return, and that is a shame because it is a cute place.

Yelp
This hotel opened 1-17-24, Wednesday. I checked in on 1-18-24, Thursday between 11:00 am and noon. Went to checkout the room there was no hot water. I let the water run 10 minutes still not hot. I went back to the desk and reported the problem to the desk attendant, I than left the hotel. I returned at 5:30 pm the same day went to the room ran the water for 10-15 minutes still the water was not even warm. I was attending and event Downtown left the hotel at about 5:45 pm. I returned to my home called the hotel and reported the problem to the desk attendant. I was called back at 8:00 pm and told the water was hot, well at that point I was not going back out. Returned to the hotel on 1-19-24, Friday between 7:00 and 8:00 am went to the room still no hot water at that time I went back to the desk reported the problem and checked out. At that time I was told by the attendant that I would receive a call from the manager, I left my name and number. I did not receive a call. I went back to the hotel on Monday, 1-22-24 and requested to speak to the manager, because I had requested that my credit card be refunded. I was referred to Kaylin Camper, assistant manager I began to tell her what happened at that time, and she began to question me as to what was the race of the attendant and a description of the attendant; which I thought was very inappropriate. She was rude to say the least. She said she would give me a call. I only received a email after I submitted at negative review. I was offered a 50% refund when I did not stay in the room at all. I said that 50% was not acceptable. I have not heard from anyone at Origin Hotel since the email. If this is the type of service Origin Hotel which is a branch of Wyndham provides it is very disappointing.
