A Pop-Up Called Pancakes Is a Cocktail Bar Inside S&P

"A temporary weekend cocktail bar operating inside a classic lunch counter, created by two bartenders who emphasize approachable, celebratory comfort food alongside technically precise drinks. The flagship cocktail is a pork-roll–infused whiskey made by caramelizing Taylor ham to render fat, deglazing with whiskey, infusing Jack Daniel’s and overproof rye in Cambros, freezing and straining, then mixing the resulting spirit with Peychaud’s bitters, cream sherry, and Montenegro amaro for a salty, smoky nod to New Jersey; staff are explicitly trained to call the product Taylor Ham. Though pancakes and latke sliders feature on the menu, the operation resists being labeled strictly breakfast-themed and instead leans into late-night accessibility with snacky items like peanut-butter–miso mousse with sliced apples and veggies, bags of Cracker Jack, and inventive cocktails (including a sake-and-cognac drink with pineapple shrub and an ode to ants on a log). The vibe is kitschy but serious about craft, and the founders hope to take the concept to other cities or find a permanent home." - Adam Reiner

The Original Pancake House in Englewood is a local favorite breakfast restaurant. The food is great, the service is top notch and the servers are very polite. I enjoy the medium roast coffee. The coffee is better here than any coffee shop. The Huevos Ranchero is a great breakfast as is the California Omelette with Feta Cheese. I enjoy the crispy bacon and a side order of 49er pancakes. The atmosphere is busy, fun and cheerful. There is usually a 30-40 minute wait during weekends but there are plenty of seats available. The omeletts are large and fluffy. You will not be disappointed.

My wife took the day to just hang out and celebrate her birthday. We got to a late start and just wanted to have breakfast. Our server Eric S. had great suggestions and made my wife’s day much brighter. Definitely recommended for breakfast, or brunch anytime of day!

Google
If you asked for my opinion the food was all right, I don't think the food is any better than a average diner that cost much less. But the service and environment was great. Don't get me wrong the food is good but it wasn't amazing. Would I go back? No. going there once it's good enough.

Google
First time back here in forever and found this Edgewater venue much more inviting. Pancakes are always on point. Solid executed menu and delivered to our table with barely any wait time. Friendly service as well.

Google
Could not say enough about the food and service. Our waitress handled a party of 15 flawlessly. Constantly checking in and double checking everything is okay. Our food was equally as great. The oven baked omelette were jaw dropping. Highly recommend this place.

Google
Love it here! Been going since they were in Fort Lee and though I don’t love the location as much, their food and service is what keeps me coming back all these years!! The hosts and servers are always so efficient and kind and the food is consistently Phenomenal!!!!

Google
We had a group of five. It was about a 15-minute wait but Service was excellent and very friendly. I had the Flapjacks with eggs over easy topped with Nutella and strawberries. The food was excellent for the whole party. Others ordered the short stack along with the eggs and bacon. I liked the Big round tables. Not too loud. Cozy atmosphere.

Google
Original pancake house literally serves the best pancakes in all of bergen county. I've been coming here for over 5 years and the quality and taste hasn't changed one bit. I love bringing visitors and friends who stop by the area bc of how good these damn pancakes are! Highly recommend

Yelp
Was craving some breakfast food so came here on a Sunday morning. Walk in only and it can get quite busy - we waited a little over 30 minutes for a group of 4 (which they did say it would be). Once our turn was up, we were seated and overall the waitress was friendly and addressed all our requests. For the four of us we got several different plates and all were quite good. Especially considering the price, the portions were pretty good - particularly the omelette which holy moly was gigantic. Ambiance is exactly in line with their other locations; casual and relaxed. It can get loud with how busy it is so just be prepared to speak up a little. If you're looking for solid breakfast food, can't go wrong with this spot.

Yelp
This venue offers craving inducing food with portions that are beyond generous. The staff is excellent, professional and friendly. This place is great for groups: please see my pictures with the custom extended chesterfield leather sofas. And the decor makes for a bright a cheery breakfast or brunch no matter the weather. My favorite go to is the blueberry pancakes. The breakfast tacos are delicious as well. There are veggie/vegan options. I really enjoy their coffee drinks. All of their lattes are delicious. I highly recommend. Great for catching up with family, friends, post game, breakfast dates or just because.

Yelp
Still My Favorite After 3 Years I've been coming here for three years, and it never disappoints. The service is always warm, the place is stylish yet cozy, and it has that inviting, family-like atmosphere that makes you want to stay. The food is fresh and flavorful every time. You'll find options for every mood--whether it's a sweet start with fresh fruit, a hearty breakfast with meat, or a perfectly balanced combo of cheese, avocado, and eggs. Perfect spot for brunch with friends or a casual family weekend breakfast.

Yelp
I had a wonderful veggie omelet here. To be honest I have never had anything here that isn't delicious. Every single dish I have ever eaten here - and there have been many - is fantastic. This omelet was light as air and fluffy as heck. It is also the size of an entire dinner plate!!! Look at the picture. I also had corned beef hash but we snarfed it down before I took a picture.

Yelp
If you're a breakfast person you can't go wrong with the food here. It's got all you need from breakfast platters to the fluffy minipancakes to wraps/sandwiches. We were absolutely stuffed. I thought the pancakes were the best part of the meal and so tasty. When we went on a weekend there was still ample seating. The parking and driving through Edgewater can be a bit of a pain. Otherwise, the restaurant itself I highly recommend. Service is also quick and friendly.

Yelp
The best pancakes in the United States. The service is amazing and the prices are great! Everything was delicious and we had the best service during our vacation! Thank you for even giving us a dessert when we said my wife is pregnant! They left on the check 1 - Awesome guest so I'm leaving 1 awesome review!

Yelp
Heard that the portions were on the larger side so decided to share among friends. Ordered the vegetarian omelette and it was indeed stuffed with mushrooms, broccoli, onions and Swiss cheese. It's baked and looked like a fat egg calzone. I think I would have liked it more without the cheese. It filled me up quickly and I feel I would have eaten more without the cheese. We also ordered the fresh fruit crepes. The topping was strawberries, blueberries and bananas. It comes with a side of mini pancakes. Usually not a fan of pancakes but these were chewy and not mushy and I actually liked it. Server was great - hats off to Island!!! Friendly and full of good conversation. Very attentive and a big smile! Place was clean. Make a note that this is a brunch house so it closes at 3p. All in all a good experience.

Yelp
Great food, great service and great ambiance! Long waitlist but got a table pretty fast! Very delicious food overall :)

Yelp
When it is a long line, it's worth the wait. Almost 1 hr wait but didn't get disappointed. Fabulous service, beautiful interior and great food. The iced vanilla chi is a bit weak. But love the Dutch baby with the lemon sauce. Other dishes are great too!
google avatar

Yelp
Really chill place with amazing pancakes, which were light, fluffy and yummy! Server was super nice and attentive. Will definitely come back.
google avatar

Yelp
My family's go-to breakfast/brunch spot. Have tried several dishes on the menu and every time it's fresh and delicious! If you're looking for a sweet plate, highly recommend the fresh fruit pancakes. Our favorite server, Octavio, is always extremely attentive and kind. Always exceptional service from him. This place builds quite a line on weekends but it moves along quickly and it's worth the wait!

Alexis C.

Yelp
I come here almost every weekend and always get the eggs Benedict -- it's absolutely perfect every time. The food is top-notch, and the staff is always super friendly and welcoming. It's the kind of place that makes you feel right at home. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I have been going here for many many years even when they were in fort Lee. The food is excellent! Love the pancakes, whipped cream, bacon, omelette, coffee (medium or dark choices) the hot is better than the iced though. Iced is not strong enough. Great menu selection. Service is really good. Quality of food is great. Place is nice inside. Nice decor and spacious. Prices are fair. Overall one of the better breakfast/brunch spots around.

Yelp
So I was in the mood for pancakes today and I wound up at the original pancake house. I was talking to a friend and I mentioned another pancake place in the area and they told me that I needed to check out this place. They said that the pancakes are, definitely on point. So here I went to give them the pancake test. And let me tell you they did not disappoint at all. The pancakes at the original pancake house were definitely better. I ordered some pancakes and eggs and they satisfied my craving. The pancakes were not super huge, but a perfect size. They were light and fluffy. Definitely not super thick. Which was fine with me. Great flavor. They were just perfect. And the eggs were scrambled perfectly. They were not burnt, which is what I don't like. They were just perfectly scrambled. I did want some toast with my meal at the same time, but they must have missed that request. so the toast came out a bit late. By that time I had finished my pancakes and eggs. Besides that everything was great. Service was on point. The venue itself was beautifully decorated with florals. Very nice dining area. it was average. A bunch of patrons and enjoying themselves, conversing. So if you're looking for some really good pancakes, I definitely suggest that you visit the original pancake house. You can thank me later for that. Have a great one y'all ! -Ray

Yelp
INCREDIBLE! Delicious food and even better service. The dutch pancake with apples... NO WORDS! We had a large party and basically tried most menu items - everyone littles to bigs were beyond satisfied. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The second I walked into the restaurant someone came to help seat me and my mom down, the service was quick and helpful. They were also very friendly, coming to check up on us. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very clean and overall gorgeous. The food was delicious, the presentation was beautiful. I also did try the garden Dutch which was also very good. Overall loved everything, will be coming back.

Yelp
Pancake house never disappoints! They are opened on July 4th with limited hours. I ordered an omelette with onion, tomatoes, avocado and cheddar cheese with a side of little pancakes. The omelette was gigantic! Pancakes were buttery and delicious. Husband had his usual, sunny side up eggs, sausage links, and home fries with a side of toast. Solid breakfast spot! Always a wait, but it usually goes by fast.
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Great service and even greater pancakes! The ambiance was definitely busy at 10am on a Friday. Felt like a Saturday at 11am with how packed it was. The menu is LARGE and can be overwhelming with soo many options. Nonetheless I knew what I came for and that helped lol I had the walnut banana pancakes and wow 3 large pancakes plus sides! I was full for pretty much the whole day. If you have a sweet tooth this is definitely the place for you with all the wild pancake creations and toppings. Would like to go back and try other unique creations and non-bkfast options too! It was worth the hype. Bill was about $50 for 2 orders of pancakes, sides

Yelp
This location has Good ambiance good food. No complaints. Friendly staff. Coffee is also the best.

Yelp
- BYOB, and they provide the wine glasses - no reservations - although there was a line there was fast turnover on a Saturday afternoon - regular pancakes are phenomenal - super large portions - dutch apple pancake is huge very egg forward going to feed me three times it did not have great reheat value - alright potatoes - delicious thick cut bacon - strawberry orange juice FTW! - hot chocolate is great and has great presentation - good lattes - sunny environment - family friendly - great staff

Yelp
Updated review: Had pancake house again recently twice and definitely enjoyed it more this time around. Tried the breakfast combo, apple dutch, and skillet. While the breakfast combo isn't the most interesting of photos, they make some solid well cooked bacon. Potatoes overall at this place are good and portion sizes are big. I would definitely say this is my goto brunch place in the edgewater area. Would not suggest the chicken and waffles

Yelp
i'm have been coming to this location for more than three years, and this is almost every weekend it has consistently been good . today we were seated close to the open kitchen. I noticed a prep person making whipped cream fresh from heavy cream and a large mixer. I observed him cutting fresh mushrooms, and other vegetables by hand I saw stacks of potatoes I saw large stacks of egg crates and this just confirmed that everything that I was eating and being served could not be any fresh er and nothing was frozen or prepackaged. My only comment otherwise would be that there Canadian bacon and regular thick, sliced bacon we're a little too salty from my taste. Otherwise, I very highly recommend this location for a great breakfast treat
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a Sunday and ended up waiting around 30 minutes to get seated (party of 2). I got the apple pancake, which was so large and came out warm. You could tell it came straight out of the oven. The pancake was covered in this sweet and delicious glaze. I absolutely loved this dish and would come back just for this. Saw a lot of people around me sipping on the orange juice. Seems like that is a popular drink from here so I'd definitely want to get that next time. Interior is very cute. Love all the flower decorations. Bathroom is clean as well.

Yelp
Delicious brunch food in Edgewater! It's a classic for a reason! The pancakes are supple, sweet and a treat! The fruit syrups are homemade and great. They have blueberry, strawberry and banana! But if sweet isn't your thing, my favorite savory treats are the home fries and corned beef. I tried the Original Skillet for the first time the other day and it was massive! There were so many home fries mixed with bacon, avocado and eggs over easy. Tasted great! They have gluten and vegan friendly pancakes that are not clearly listed on the menu. They are tucked in a small word bubble in the corner. Also, most of their dishes are made with peanut oil, which is only in the fine print as well. The service was quick. And the ambiance is casual. Prices are on the pricey side, but given the portions, they are not too bad. The wait was lengthy on a weekend, brunch time. There is a line for 1-2 diners and then another one for larger parties. No reservations. Looking forward to trying something new next time! tldr food 4/5 service 4/5 ambiance 4/5

Yelp
I had an enjoyable experience at the original pancake house. It is spot on. First, the Kona Hawaiian coffee is so good! Not many places have Kona coffee, so that was impressive. The service was good. The Dutch garden dish was delicious. The mini pancakes were very good. I would definitely be back.

Yelp
Came here to a packed restaurant and a line that moved surprisingly pretty fast. This spot was recommended by a friend and I can see why. You can smell the sugar in the air. I ordered a full stack of Chocolate Chip Lovers Pancake ($16). Don't even need the syrup to enhance the flavoring, that's how sweet this was and that's in a good way for you chocolate lovers. My gf got the Strawberry Dutch ($16). We both never had a dutch baby before, so this pretty unique to us. Has the distinct egg taste. The lemon butter glaze that came on the side I found didn't really do much besides make the food more fatty with the butter. The strawberry did enough to add the sweetness. The only thing I would say could improve upon is the service. I had ordered coffee and trying to get someone to refill my coffee was a bit of a struggle. Other than that, this is a spot I'd stop by again for breakfast.

Yelp
Nice restaurant with generally good and reliable food. I personally don't think they are mind-blowing but they are one of the rare restaurants that open as early as them and that offer as many options. The service is pretty good. My only complaints are: their coffee is surprisingly bad. The coffee ground they advertise is pretty good, so my guess is they don't know how to brew the coffee and it's always burnt. Plus they should consider creating some shade for the tables outside and stabilize those tables. Finally, they should add more protein options other than ham/pork/bacon.
google avatar

Angel D.

Yelp
Not bad great breakfast. Good people work there. I've been there before and I went back because it was worth it.

Kristina T.

Yelp
I love this place specifically for the coffee and one dish I always order: original skillet. The service is also amazing every time. Would recommend!
google avatar

Emeka N.

Yelp
Came here on back to back days during a vacation with my family. This place is an absolute hitter. Everything fresh. You watch them squeeze the oranges for the orange juice and make everything in the kitchen. The caramel macchiato if you like creamy tasty coffee. The chocolate chip pancakes fire. The pumpkin pancakes fire. The only thing I didn't love was the lemon sauce for the Dutch baby. But if you love lemon you'll love it

szendibogi

Yelp
The place is nice, and if you come early you can avoid the queue. The stuff is kind, service is fast. I love the pancake and even the smaller portion is more than enough to feel full.
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
I love this place and their food is amazing good. The natural juice blow me out of this world the strawberry and orange delicious. My favorites are their pancakes. It's usually crowded because of how good the food is. Great service too
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
Everything was fantastic, the food and service, but when you have to pay. If you have the chance, pay with cash, because they have a credit card service charge. Which I get, and they have on the front door, but who's going to read a paragraph before walking in? Plus, it's covered on my receipt so I didn't see it either. I'm not going to even show photos of food because that just left a sour taste in my mouth.
google avatar

Yelp
We came on a Saturday morning and it was so packed. I believe they don't take reservations so be aware of long wait times. The food was okay nothing out of the ordinary. The Orange juice is freshly squeezed which I love and I really enjoy. The restaurant is family friendly. The server was very kind and patient because we had 4 little ones. Kevin was a great server!!

Kelly J.

Yelp
We visited this place on our way to a tournament. The wait wasn't too long and the food came out quick. The pancakes were delicious. The potatoes lacked flavor but would still return.
google avatar

Wayne G.

Yelp
Downright amazing-best breakfast ever Pancakes hands down make the Brownstone's taste like cardboard What was Guy Fieri thinking ??? Scrambled eggs were perfect Actually light and fluffy not like a plain overly browned omelette Even the sausages were excellent Only next time I need to ask for split and well done Service was on point -couldn't have been better-staff knowledgeable and friendly Best is the space is large yet inviting Can't wait to go back Looking forward to trying the Eggs Benedict
google avatar

Felix A.

Yelp
Pancakes so good. Western omelette so good. Flapjacks so good. Skillet so good. Bottom line, food, service, ambiance, price; everything exceeded my expectations. We'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Donna C.

Yelp
Even though it is always crowded the wait isn't usually very long. The food is delicious, our server was very attentive. Please put up a shade to block the sun in the front windows. It's very uncomfortable trying to eat with the sun beating down on you. I kept moving my chair to get out of the sun. I saw a guy put his hood up to block the sun.
google avatar

Sabrina M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and his family always go here because they swear by it. I came for the first time the other week. They don't take reservations and at first it looked like a long and scary line but to my surprise the line went by very fast. I got the California omelette which was huge. It was very good and I enjoyed it! Their freshly squeezed orange juice is actually freshly squeezed and was very good. Our server was very nice and it was super busy! I definitely recommend it here!
google avatar

Nikko A.

Yelp
The original pancake house was me and my fiancées favorite breakfast place in the area. The vibes were always amazing with a happy atmosphere and music playing. The service was always quick and the waiters/waitresses always so kind and helpful. And the FOOD the food, never disappoints. The banana chocolate chip pancakes are some of my favorites ever, and if you're in the corn beef hash mood that is also one of their best dishes. This restaurant is a must try!

Yelp
It's good to be home and my brother loves this place so I'll do whatever he tells me, that's how much I love that boy! I ordered a turkey bacon egg and cheese sandwich which was delicious, their omelets are insanely big, like a 5lb omelets which unless you're bulking up, it's unnecessary lol. I love how they decorated the place, they added flowers all over the place. The staff was friendly, make sure you go hungry, you've been warned lol.

Kharis G.

Yelp
We wanted to grab some pancakes and were looking for a family friendly restaurant in the area. We decided to give this place a try. We had a great experience... were seated right away, our waitress was so nice and made sure that we were comfortable. Great menu and the food was really good. The pancakes were soft and fluffy and everything we ordered was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, and great service! Would recommend it to everyone! Great for Family and Birthday celebrations!
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
Came in around 12:30 pm and got seated within 10mins! We loved the ambiance and the service was super friendly and welcoming. They even had us try the blueberry buttermilk pancakes on the house because we have never tried it! I loved their coffee mugs & coffee too. I'll definitely be back for another brunch date
google avatar

Ty S.

Yelp
Very cute inside, good service, decent food. VERY packed on the weekends and parking can be hard to find. I like to go during the week when it's less packed. I always end up coming back here for breakfast.
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
The original pancakes here have a lot of flavor. You can tell they add salt to the pancakes. Yum. I had pancakes at this spot twice (years apart) and was pleasantly surprised both times how good the pancakes are. The dutch baby pancake was kind of tasteless imo compared to the pancakes. I wouldnt order again The volume of food is great - everyone around us was getting to go boxes at the end. I ordered a strawberry banana dutch pancake but a plain one (mini) came out. Im 99% sure that they just went back and put strawberrries on top. I'm not sure if the pancake size was supposed to be bigger.. since the one came out was called mini. Still filled me up but my eyebrow was raised Service is where a star falls short. The staff just seemed so busy and we had to continuously flag folks down. However, they did offer a whole new to go coffee at the end of my meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Many years ago, I went to an Original Pancake House in Minnesota, so I was delighted to find one in Edgewater. Busy at 8am on a holiday weekend, but I got seated right away. I couldn't pass up the pumpkin pie crepes as we enter the fall season, and , wow these were a hit! Plentiful serving so I get to enjoy these again at home. Note that they are charging a service fee for credit cards.

Tomo D.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast! I love the french crepes here and the service is good. Helpers look that they're happy here
google avatar

Eunice K.

Yelp
Service was great Parking isn't bad super early in the morning but other times it's hard to find parking so you'll prob have to park under ground and it's better in the summer time cus your car will be cooler Breakfast taco- they don't have salsa. We asked and they had salsa verde but no red salsa. The salsa verde made it much better. Veggie cheese one of the Dutch baby pancakes- more like broccoli and veggies with cheese and a thin pancake. Not bad but wouldn't get it again
