Where to Stay in Athens When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Hugging a hilly park, Dryades & Orion is a chill midrange hotel with unique, homey décor, rooms that can offer Acropolis views, standard amenities like air conditioning, tea/coffee makers and minifridges, and a lovely roof garden where I like to watch the sunset with a glass of wine — don't miss the homecooked rooftop breakfast buffet featuring local cuisine." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Athens (Updated 2025)

"In Exarcheia I found the cozy and affordable Dryades & Orion Hotel to have a lively student-vibe neighborhood with lots of street art; the hotel offers many room configurations and exceptionally helpful staff. Rooms are sizable with unique, homey décor and eclectic furniture plus standard mid-range amenities (air conditioning, tea/coffee makers, mini fridges). It’s worth paying a bit extra for the homecooked breakfast buffet, which features local cuisine and is served on the rooftop garden with a great view of the Acropolis." - Matthew Kepnes

Great little hotel with excellent location and service from the reception. Rooms are clean, have what you need and without strange decorations. I upgraded to a room with a view and did not regret it. The view and the balcony was stunning. There is a roof garden / terrace, where breakfast is served and everyone is welcome to hang out. Rooftop has a great view of acropolis and the neighbouring park. Neighbourhood is developing/ gentrifying, so there are lots of small restaurants, bars and cafes. Both traditional ones and more hipster ones.

Amazing experience,|- The staff is the most important in the hotel, they were super kind, super helpful. I felt at home.|- The cleanliness is perfect, spotless. The room had a comfortable size, with private toilet, comfortable bed, working space and a balcony. Wifi works fine.|- The value, for Europe, is fair|- The breakfast is ok|- The location is good, 40 min walk from the acropolis, surround by restaurants, cafes and bars. It is located in an alternative neighborhood, full of political grafitis. I won't consider if it is either good or bad, it really depends on your taste, because I felt super safe the whole time. however it might not be safe if you are Israeli, please be mindful in that case.

I stayed here recently for a couple of weeks. The outstanding staff, Dimitris, Nikos, and another gentleman made my stay relaxing and enjoyable. The staff recommended places to visit, how to get there, arranged taxis to and from the airport, and even helped me with getting tickets to a concert which was very much appreciated. The breakfast buffet with a variety of local food was delicious. And the woman who made that possible was always friendly which is nice to see first thing in the morning. The room was small but clean and comfortable. The location was perfectly suited to my sensibilities and I look forward to staying again.

I stayed at this hotel for only one night, but I really liked it. The hotel is located on the hill, away from the dirty and noisy district. The hotel is well-maintained, very clean, tidy and detail-oriented. The rooftop is the highlight, stunning view with Acropolis in the background. The staff are also very friendly and welcoming. I will stay at this hotel again.

My friends and I stayed here for a few nights. The room was in good shape. We really liked the rooftop café — the view of Mount Lycabettus was amazing. The staff were super nice and helpful. The receptionist even helped us a lot with our luggage. The neighborhood felt a bit sketchy, and my friends had some bugs in their bed, but overall we had a good stay and the price was affordable. Big thanks to the team — wishing you all the best!

We stayed three nights in an economy room. Super friendly staff and amazing rooftop views. The location is awesome, the neighborhood is beautiful! Well connected with bus and metro, but really we walked everywhere!

In short: highly recommended! The location is perfect – Exarchia is such a nice neighborhood with lots of places to eat, hang out, and wander around. It’s about a 20–30 minute walk to the center. The hotel has an amazing terrace where you can enjoy a super rich and delicious breakfast. The rooms are fresh and nicely done, with a cozy book wall and everything you need. And the best part: the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Honestly, I’d stay here again anytime when coming back to Athens.
