Where to Stay in Athens When You Visit (Updated 2025)
"Hugging a hilly park, Dryades & Orion is a chill midrange hotel with unique, homey décor, rooms that can offer Acropolis views, standard amenities like air conditioning, tea/coffee makers and minifridges, and a lovely roof garden where I like to watch the sunset with a glass of wine — don't miss the homecooked rooftop breakfast buffet featuring local cuisine." - Matthew Kepnes
"In Exarcheia I found the cozy and affordable Dryades & Orion Hotel to have a lively student-vibe neighborhood with lots of street art; the hotel offers many room configurations and exceptionally helpful staff. Rooms are sizable with unique, homey décor and eclectic furniture plus standard mid-range amenities (air conditioning, tea/coffee makers, mini fridges). It’s worth paying a bit extra for the homecooked breakfast buffet, which features local cuisine and is served on the rooftop garden with a great view of the Acropolis." - Matthew Kepnes
In short: highly recommended! The location is perfect – Exarchia is such a nice neighborhood with lots of places to eat, hang out, and wander around. It’s about a 20–30 minute walk to the center. The hotel has an amazing terrace where you can enjoy a super rich and delicious breakfast. The rooms are fresh and nicely done, with a cozy book wall and everything you need. And the best part: the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Honestly, I’d stay here again anytime when coming back to Athens.

We had an incredible experience, specifically with the staff! There was a payment problem and they helped us with such kindness!|Furthermore the rooms are excellent and clean and the location was great! Also the price is extremely good for what you get. When we visit Athens again, we will come back. I would recommend them to everyone!

This is a great hotel with an awesome staff that was helpful anytime I had a question. My only complaint about the hotel is that the rooms have fairly thin walls so you can hear quite a bit from the people in surrounding rooms.
One thing I wish I'd known before going is that the neighborhood the hotel is in is somewhat anti tourist, although my wife and I had very pleasant experiences every time we were out walking around. Everyone is very nice, so I think it's a small subset of the area that shares that sentiment. All things considered, I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. But there is quite a bit of graffiti around that might make people feel unwelcome even though the locals didn't make us feel that way.

Very friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast and lovely view from the rooftop.
The room was clean and pleasant, the bed is on the shorter side.
Would recommend people travelling alone to get there by taxi/uber as it is not the nicest neighbourhood, but we were never bothered by anyone.
Closest metrostation is a 15 minute walk.

Great location in Exarcheia with beautiful views from the roof terrace and hilltop. We got the budget room with yard access - no-frills but clean and solid experience, plus it was super quiet and stayed cool during the hot Athenian days! The 9-euro breakfast is good value: delicious eggs, cheese, fruit, jam, yogurt, etc.

I love this hotel and always stay there when I am in Athens. Great location, clean and comfortable rooms, super friendly and helpful staff, simple but fresh breakfast. It is on a hill, which takes a bit of an effort, but that's also why it is nice and breezy in the summer

Awesome location in the coolest neighbourhood in Athens. Spotless rooms. Helpful, friendly, and caring staff. Couldn’t recommend Orion & Dryades more highly

I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of this summer and it was ok. However, when I booked again, they accused me of making a fake reservation for a visa application (!), even though I live in France with a residence permit. After I demanded an apology, they apologised, but then a few days later they tried to charge my card 50% three weeks before arrival – while on Booking.com the policy clearly states free cancellation until 2 weeks before.
Very unprofessional, stressful and a big waste of time. Never again – this hotel is trying to scam people.
