"Take a break from the city's frenetic energy with a visit to the Palermo Botanical Garden, just south of the port next to Villa Giulia Park. Established in 1786, the 10-hectare (25-acre) gardens contain plants from around the world: Southeast Asian palms, coffee and papaya trees, even cotton plants and sugarcane. A terraced pond blooms with lotus and water lilies, while the ruins of the 14th-century Church of Saint Dennis can be found amid the greenery."

For crudi (raw fish), take Foro Umberto, the long road that follows the coast southeast, past the Orto Botanico where fishermen sell ricci di mare (sea urchins) and cozze (mussels) straight out of the sea. Magic.

This garden is a wonderful place to explore, especially on a warm day. The shaded paths and lush environment offer a peaceful spot to cool off. There’s an impressive variety of Mediterranean plants, trees, and succulents—perfect for nature lovers or anyone curious about regional flora. The on-site café with outdoor seating adds to the relaxing atmosphere. Tip: Bring some insect repellent, as mosquitoes can be present in certain areas. Highly recommended for a tranquil and affordable break!

A perfect place to escape the midday heat and enjoy the beauty of nature. Centuries-old plane trees and cacti create a refreshing oasis in the heart of the city. The botanical garden is a lovely spot for a peaceful walk — even in the summer heat, it’s cool and shady. There’s also a charming café on the grounds. Plant enthusiasts might notice rare species, but for me, it was simply a beautiful and relaxing garden to spend a couple of hours.

We loved wandering around this garden. Spent about 90 minutes there. At 17:30 on a Thursday it was super quiet, only a few other visitors, so a good time to go. If you go, make sure you see Italy's "Tree of the Year 2022" - it's #20 on the map and we have never seen anything quite like it - it's incredible.

Beautiful! We had a great time, the plants are marvelous! Everything is so pretty and the atmosphere is great ! But be careful because we were attacked by mosquitoes so I recommend you to either wear pants or have a mosquito repellent ! If you are less than 25 yo, the entrance is only 5€. The little shop is also great ! I highly recommend you to visit this place !

Very well maintained botanical garden. If you go towards the evening, it’s quiet and not as hot. Beware - massive mosquitoes and a lot of them!!! Either bring your own spray or buy one at the shop. They have a small sign behind the ticket staff but none of us saw it! 10 minutes later, eaten alive (at least 20 bites each).

A beautiful place to visit in Palermo. Some spots seemed to be a bit neglected or abandoned though. Also a few areas were closed or people were working in there so you couldn’t really visit them . Still a great place and we loved walking around the gardens.

Beautiful place to chill even in the hottest afternoon. The highlights were the giant banyan trees which were impressive, but the rest of the garden is somewhat lackluster since it mostly focuses on tropical and hot temperature species.

One of the best botanical gardens I ve ever been. It is Lush green with different kind of plants and trees. Peaceful escape from hot Palermo city life. No wait line for the ticket office.

Yelp
I dropped by here almost by accident when I was exploring the city, it was only €5 for entrance so I thought heck why not take some time to explore it and try out my new macro lens I bought for my digital camera. The gardens history can be traced back to 1779 making it the oldest garden in Europe and now covers 10 hectares, the gardens has certainly been run down which is a shame. The garden has a number of Australian plants which always makes you a little homesick such as the Moreton Bay Fig. There is also a free garden next door that you can also explore, if the weather is good or far too hot I would suggest dropping by the gardens to cool down as there is plenty of cover to escape the heat and plenty of paths to explore.

Yelp
Great place. One part (park) is free and it is divided by great gates from this Botanic Garden. Both are nice and should be visited. Free park first and then paid. In free park you'll see the old entrance to Botanical Gardens with great statues. It was too many plants for me. Way too much, but some of them left me with an open jaw. The tree with spikes all over it! I call it three hedgehog. There are toilets. Great place for romantic walkaround. Ticket €5! This is oldest botanic garden in Europe! 200 years old.
