Osamequin Nature Trails and Bird Sanctuary

Small preserve with forest, fields, and marshland. Main trail is wide but the side paths are overgrown or flooded. 5 stars for being one of the only dog friendly parks in the area

I think bird watchers would love this area. It's in and around a salt marsh. We struggled to get 1.7mi. There are several loop trails, clean.

First tick of year for me, on this trail. Took outer trail around edges. Hung out with some crabs. Flowers spotted. Short hike. Not a large area but enough to appreciate nature. ♡ was let down at end by the following: ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ Some racist person wrote on the sign in last photo. Watch out in this town, guys. Nice views, but short trail.

THIS IS NOT A SAFE SPACE. PROCEED WITH CAUTION. Maybe carry mace. As of 9/24/2025 this nature sanctuary is a spot where men cruise for sex with each other. This has been going on for a few years. I've been followed and had creepy men suddenly appear from hiding in trees. Here is what usually happens: They park their car and wait for someone else to pull into the lot. One walks onto the trail, a few seconds later the other follows them in. They also have some type of code phrase they use when passing to see if you are interested: "How are the ticks today?". I'm not sure what the response should be as I've always answered with "get away from me I'm not here for sex". They usually scurry off back to their cars real fast when they find out you are on to them. I've sent photos of cars and people along with license plates to the Barrington Police. They basically refuse to do anything about this. The director of the Barrington Land Trust and Town Manger both have been informed and neither think a space where families take their kids and that is supposed to be a sanctuary for nature has become a space where people follow you in the hopes you want sex is something that needs immediate attention. It's also not kept up very well and the further you go in the more trash you find. What's up with all the old broken dishes scattered everywhere?

Osamequin is a beautiful little spot right along the Wampanoag Trail in Barrington. It is flat, the trails are well marked and there are many nice little benches set up in very good locations to sit and enjoy views of 100 Acre Cove. There are very nice views of the salt marshes. I find it very tranquil just before sunrise when the mist covers everything. You can walk most of the trails in well under an hour and it would be a good place to take the kids for a short walk.

There isn't a map and the trails are marked with different colors. It was small. Would I return probably not. We got to see the osprey and a couple of egrets. One area was muddy on the trail. Spray yourself since it's buggy.

It was an okay place to hike. We went in hopes of seeing lots of birds and there were not many. It is dog friendly. Lots of crab holes.
