My husband and I stayed at Oscar Gill House for two nights in September, 2012. This beautiful, historic inn is absolutely charming! When we walked inside, we felt like we’d stepped back in time to 1913, when the house was built. The owners, Mark and Susan, have tastefully and thoughtfully restored the home and filled it with period furniture and antiques. The historic details make it feel like a museum, but it’s also very homey and comfortable and fully-updated with modern amenities. || ||We loved our room (Room #1). The bed was very comfortable and the bed linens beautiful and luxurious. The bathroom was immaculately clean, had plenty of fluffy towels, robes, fancy bath products, and a wonderful Jacuzzi tub! Even the knick-knacks on the shelves and some clothing items hanging in the closet were antiques, which added to the feeling of authenticity and charm. This was not your run-of-the-mill hotel or B&B room, but something truly unique and special. ||||We thought the location of Oscar Gill was great. It’s close to the water and just a short walk (about 10 minutes) from downtown. || ||Mark and Susan are very friendly people and made us feel right at home. At breakfast, we enjoyed hearing Susan’s tales of interesting guests they’ve had through the years and about their experiences in Alaska. A lot of the time, Mark and Susan weren’t at the house because they have other jobs, but that was perfectly fine with us. || ||The homemade breakfasts were served family-style and were very good. They were not over-the-top huge like we have had elsewhere, but we found them to be just the right amount of food. || ||I think I almost cried when it was time to leave Oscar Gill House. We highly recommend this lovely inn and hope to return someday. It is the perfect blend of old-fashioned charm and modern comfort/convenience.
