Ostello Tasso

Avoid – a bad and unsafe place. I could not sleep and it destroyed my visit in florence. I stayed here in early October in the shared dormitory for three nights. The place was dirty, noisy, and nothing like the photos online — everything looked old and rundown. The floors were filthy, dust was everywhere, and the common areas were usually locked. Service was minimal, and there was no lock on the dorm door. Strangers entered twice, and it felt completely unsafe. On Friday night, the hotel turned into a nightclub. Music blasted until 4:30 a.m., people lingered until 6:30, and it truly felt like trying to sleep inside the club. Some club guests even wandered into hostel areas without any control. The other girls in the dormitory shared my opinion. I expected only a simple bed to sleep in, but even that was impossible. Paying €50 per night for this was unacceptable. Once decent, now completely mismanaged — avoid at all costs.

I stayed in a 6-bed shared room while traveling solo, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. The room didn’t have a secure lock, which made me feel unsafe—especially since people actually walked into our room after a late-night party in the lobby. It was creepy and very uncomfortable. The shared washroom was also poorly maintained. It was designed for two people to use at a time, but one of the connecting doors was broken, so in reality, only one person could use it. This caused a lot of inconvenience for everyone in the room. On Friday night, the noise was unbearable. The hotel hosts a loud party in the lobby that goes on until around 4 a.m., making it impossible to sleep! To top it off, the hostel itself was quite hard to find, which added to the frustration for a first-time traveler like myself Overall, I was really disappointed. Basic expectations like safety, cleanliness, and functionality were not met.

Lovely stay, great neighbourhood with lots of bakeries and some bars nearby, and about a 15 minute walk into the Florence centre. Great rooms (and air con!)

It’s a medium-level hostel. The room and bed linen were clean. They didn’t have shampoo or body wash gel, and there was no hairdryer, but when I requested one, they provided it. The hostel’s location is quite good, close to a stop from where you can go anywhere by public transport. Florence is the small town and everything is walkable if you are not with kids😀 like me.

Very loud - parties going until 2am in the courtyard and bar downstairs. Very unhelpful staff who would not fix our aircon when our room was 27 degrees Celsius and told us to deal with it and that it is normal to have a room that hot even though aircon is advertised when booking. Would not recommend.

Stayed here from Friday to Monday. Great location. It's a bit outside from the city but not that far for a walk. There are plenty of restaurants outside and lovely park nearby. Great staff. Got invited to their birthday party with masks etc. Had a great time. Definitely will book to stay here again.

This was my worst experience. It is more of a bar-club and party place than a hostel. The hostel administration does not warn and there is no information anywhere that on the first floor of the building there is a club where they have parties until 3-4 am, with loud music that rattles the whole building. The doors are flimsy and there is no sense of security. The door to the women's room does not lock with a key, and during a drunken party, someone invaded the room several times. I did not feel safe. The smell of alcohol and cigarettes rises to the second floor of the building where the hostel rooms are. The bathroom was very strange, it is one room that is divided by a thin screen. There were 2 toilets and 2 showers, but in fact it was one room. Also, on the second day, the lock in one of the bathrooms broke. There are lockers in the rooms, but there are no locks for them, you need to buy your own separately. The administration ignored my complaints. I do not recommend!

Important: It is very loud of weekends so if you book be prepared for no sleep.||The rooms are very hot, and AC is set very high and doesn’t work. When raised with staff they told us “it’s normal, deal with it even though it was 27 degrees Celsius.”

I'm a few months late from posting this review, but I highly, highly recommend staying here on any future Florence travels. (Especially if you've previously visited Florence before.) As a solo traveler, this place was perfect! First of all, Romina was amazing, amazing hostess with the most-ess! She literally knows everything and anything that's going on in Florence; and she even has her own app!! From the best tiramisu in town to live music, to the "hot new restaurant" - she'll guide your way. So this gorgeous "hostel" was previously an elementary school... gorgeous architecture with marble floors! (I'm sure not too many hostels have that...) But if you can remember your old small gymnasium.. well yeah, that's the main "lobby" part of Tasso, with a bunch of tables and sofas to lounge. And the gym stage is where Tasso hosts the frequent local music acts that play on the weekend! Yeah... how cool is that?!? :) My solo room was quite large, extremely comfortable bed... locker inside to stow my belongings. (Just remember to bring your own combo lock with.) Shared bathroom was totally fine.. i never had to wait; nor do I think I even remember hearing anyone else go in there. ?? Loved this place! It was a total yelp find.. I can't recommend high enough. And I'll absolutely stay here again with future visits to Florence. Being on the other side of the Arno was great... it was certainly "less touristy". I stayed in Florence for a few days, so I even found "my own coffee shop" that i'd frequent because I stayed at Tasso. Tons of charm... amazing service.... totally secure location... comfortable beds... and I met the coolest people from all over the world!

BEST HOSTEL. This was our favorite hostel throughout our entire Euro-trip. Clean, single beds, high ceilings, great staff, amazing location, air conditioning, the list goes on! We always cabbed to the train station because it was only €14 and we had a group, but you could walk if you're up for a 25 minute trek, not bad at all. Make sure you book in advance to stay here in Florence! We had the best trip here and credit that partially to the wonderful hostel.

Ring this big wooden gate bell and get in! Some of the most crowded late night venues in Florence are behind closed doors. This is mainly a hostel with fair prices, but during the night the main room is also a more and more notorious place where local bands play live. The other evening there was a 50/60's concert and people were so pressed that they were dancing also if staying still! Cocktails and beers for 5 €, a wide terrace/garden that serves as smoking and chilling area, some sofas and tables all around that can also be reserved. The place can also be booked for private events. Check their facebook page to be informed on upcoming events.

Phenomenal place! The rooms were nice, had comfy beds, and their own heating. The bathrooms are terrific with big showers and hot water. The best part of this place was the 'atmosphere'. Inside is a classy bar, lounge piano, and stage. I met some really cool people here and the employees themselves were so nice! For the price (which is very cheap) I really recommend staying here. Beats a hotel any night.
