Where to Eat, Stay, and Play in Umbria—The 'Green Heart of Italy'

"In Perugia, Osteria a Priori is a favorite and a must-visit: serving an all-Umbrian menu made of local ingredients from small artisanal producers, from cheeses to legumes to the black truffles served with the traditional strangozzi."

Tasty pasta, delicious rose wine, very pleasant service. The dessert- ricotta pie, was not to our taste, a little too dry. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The food is simple. They generally don't have traditional, authentic dishes, but Beatrice's service was impeccable the wine very good at decent price, and overall it was a pleasant dinner

What a fantastic dinner full of amazing Italian flavors! I highly recommend the cappellacci and agnolotti — they were absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, and so fresh. But the most wonderful part of the evening was our lovely waiter Alberto, who truly made our night. He was incredibly kind, warm, and made us feel so welcome. We're deeply grateful for his care and attention — thank you, Alberto! Sending you our warmest greetings! Aleksandra and Daria

We had the chicken and veal pate, which was very flavorful, and with the fig and cheese combination it was amazing. The cheese was very intense and you could see the great quality from how it crumbled. Second courses were the pork with truffles and the lamb rolle, very tender and well done. The rustic jam tart and the brownie were the best way to end the meal. Everything was very delicious. Very important: make reservations in advance. The place is always full.

My husband and I dined here last night and it was exceptional. We have visited more than 20 cities in Italy and this is the best pasta we’ve ever had - the strangozzi caserecci al tartufo nero. Our waitress, Rebecca, was so lovely and even provided recommendations for other local restaurants. We can’t wait to return to Perugia and dine here again.

One of my most favourite places to eat in Perugia. I went there multiple times with various different friends who were visiting while I spent 3 weeks in Perugia. They all loved it too. The amazing food, incredibly friendly service and delicious rosé wine kept me coming back. The best pasta I’ve ever eaten is made there and I wouldn’t hesitate to return when I visit again. I highly recommend this place to eat at, again and again. Book in advance as understandably, it’s super popular.

Delicious food combined with great service. Hat off both to the chef and wait team. Can see why this restaurant is popular. A good menu that also sensibly priced too. Yummy wine by the glass as we dint want much, though they have an extensive wine list. Also have great selection to buy too. Oh and not to forget really good cafe to finish off lunch. Definitely returning next time in Perugia

Yelp
I have visited Italy many times and this is the first time I've ever had to write a negative review- the staff members were outwardly rude to my friends and I and it was very clearly because they were racist, homophobic and xenophobic. They were slamming down wine glasses, staring us down and making nasty comments. The food was also the worst I've had in Italy- we ordered the chicken dish and they gave us neck bones while other diners had breast meat. They purposely excluded key ingredients from other dishes we had and the overall experience was demeaning. 0/10- 0 for effort and 0 for food. please do not support these people.

Yelp
Well I don't know why this place only had 1 review and it's 3 stars because this place is amazing. Osteria a Priori is one of the most famous restaurants in Perugia and all the locals recommended it to us. In order to eat here, you must have a reservation otherwise you can't. However, one night we came here without a reservation and surprisingly got a table! We were seated inside by the wine store where they have all the wines. Very very homey and just amazing. We ordered a bottle of wine which was one of the best wines I've ever had in my life. And it was made only a few minutes away form Perugia. The wine was cheap but amazing. We also ordered a platter of appetizer that consisted of various patés and cheeses. So fancy. I then ordered homemade pasta with black truffles for my first course and pork with black truffles for my second course and omg so good. Everything with black truffle is my new favorite Italian meal. You would think this restaurant is expensive but it's not. WOW. We didn't spend more than $100 like wow. Because Perugia is so far away from Rome, it's not as touristy and the prices are much much lower! The quality of food is so much better than major cities such as Rome and Florence. If you ever come to Perugia, you have to come here and order anything with black truffle!
