The setup is informal with long, communal tables, which gives it a cozy, rustic vibe. We came for the Florentine steak, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The meat was tender, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. Giulio, the host, was incredibly welcoming. He explained how everything works and even showed us the cut of steak before it hit the grill. The house wine was smooth and easy to drink, the roasted potatoes were delizioso, and dessert was just as good. Definitely make a reservation well in advance.

Google
Really nice place, friendly servers and owners. No frills as you drink water and wine from the same glass cup 😂 Also, tables are shared with other people but it’s all part of the experience. Hard to beat €35/kg too for the Florentine steak! We went earlier before opening to put our names down.

Google
The restaurant cane highly recommended as the place to go if you want a great steak, although our host had a word of caution about the hospitality. It’s a meat place and it was great! Although we requested medium rare and it arrived medium. We didn’t bring it up because you are there at the pleasure of the owners not the other way around and the look will let you know that. Hospitality isn’t needed because the place it booked for weeks. One of the those restaurants that is on the to-go-to-places so the people keep coming.

Google
It was a fun and unique experience. I called a couple weeks before to make reservations. It took a few times to get through, but was worth the effort as you need a reservation. The steak was good, but not fantastic. They had forgotten to salt it. I was able to add salt, so not a real problem, but took me some time to realize it. The pear salad was very good. I would recommend going here as it is a fun experience, but might not be the best steak you have ever had. We sat with a lady from Israel and had a nice time visiting with here.

Google
One of the best places we ate at in Italy. The steak Florentine, was delicious and about 30% less than any other one we saw in Tuscany. (Spring 2025: €30/kg while others were €50-60). Atmosphere and service was wonderful They have two seatings a 7:30 and 9:30pm. When we went only those that reserved got in.

Google
Best fiorentina i've ever had. Appetizers were fantastic - the combination of flavours were perfect and the meat cuts were fresh and delicious. But the star of the show was the fiorentina. Cooked rare as it should always be. Charred on the outside through direct flame cooking, soft and pink in the middle. Salted with course salt that accompanies and accentuates the flavour - delicious. The only thing i would have liked was a wider selection of red wines. With meat so delicious, it requires also some amazing wine. Staff were super quick and friendly and very decent prices. Would love to come back

Google
Went there for lunch during the busy hours, and still managed to get seats at a common table that we shared with 2 other couples. You can tell by the number of people inside and by the smell that the food is amazing. We tried couple of different dishes, all were flavourful and well done and delicious. The red wine was great and so was the sweet desert wine server with biscuits. The service is quick and the prices are surprisingly cheap. The owner and his family and nice and attentive and their restaurant is worth a visit if you’re looking for great food.

Google
What an amazing experience! An original Osteria where you can even bring your own wine, with perfectly grilled fiorentina and fantastic prices. Definitely worth visiting. Make sure however that you book well in advance, this place is very popular.

Yelp
Outstanding pastas and bistecca alla fiorentine. Lively ambiance, friendly to Americans, adequate English by our waiters. Showed up in a large group and was lucky to snag a table!

Yelp
I literally could not believe the food and my experience here. It SURPASSED all of my expectations - above and beyond. When I say this was the best steak I've ever had in my entire life, I gravely mean it. It was insanely soft, tender, juicy, all of the best adjectives you can think of to describe the perfect steak, here it is. A common thing for steaks is a lot of restaurants in Italy can make it chewy, but not this one. Everything else we ordered was phenomenal too. You just have to come here to see what I'm talking about. Don't be shy, order a big chunk of steak. It's worth the splurge.

Yelp
This has got to be one of my favorite spots to eat at in all ll Mondo! This place is filled to the brim with ambiance. It's a one of a kind experience not to be missed if you're in the mood for the famous chianina Bisteca ! The service is perfect and personal as the owner comes to the table to determine how big of a steak will feed those at your table endulging. He then writes the Kgs. On your paper table cloth pans off he goes to cut your special steak. It's really an experience. I never miss an opportunity to indulge when I visit.

Yelp
If you're ever in Montepulciano, you have to eat here. It's pretty far up hill but well worth it. Make sure you have reservations because most people do and if not the place fills up fast. The staff is friendly and welcoming when you get there. You get a medieval vibe when you walk seeing all the old brick and wood still holding the place together. Probably some of the best service we had in Italy, our server was great constantly checking on us. If you haven't seen videos, the place is known for the owner coming over to help you pick out the perfect size steak for you (if you order it) then presents it to you before cooking it. We love both pastas and the dessert was the perfect ending to the night. We had a lot of food and thought the price for everything was way better than expected. Highly recommend to everyone!

Yelp
Agree with all the others ... just a great meal - big lunch for 6. We did multiple courses - the tagliatelle pasta in oil, garlic was amazing. The steak, of course was the hit. Interesting note - we actually had part of the meat cooked medium-rare vs the usual mostly rare. It was a happy surprise to a few at the table who were not totally rare fans. The staff was amazing and did a great job managing the entire crowd. We spent €200 for multiple courses including steak wine and desert for 6 at lunch. Well worth it!!!

Yelp
This place was an experience! Great food, but even more than that it was like a big dinner party. We wound up talking with all the people at our long table - from many different countries - and afterwards all of us went looking for another place for a nightcap.

Yelp
This should be a must visit when in Montepulciano. We booked reservations for 9:30pm the day of and got luckily to get in. Reservations are at set times during the day so you will see people milling around outside as the previous group finished up their meal. It's all about the meat so you must try it. For a table for 4, we split 2.9 kg of meat cut into two pieces. The main person chops the meat as you sit there and brings out the steak that will be yours. He actually brought a bigger one for us and we said we'd rather have two smaller ones. No problemo. They are noted for cooking the steak over an open fire. We ordered ours medium-well and it came out more like medium in USA. Excellent! We had picii and tagliatelle first course. We also shared bruschetta. I added roasted cauliflower to eat with the steak. Service was as excellent. You will likely be seated at tables with other parties. Expect a good 1.5 - 2 hours for your dinner. Enjoy the cozy atmosphere and excellent food. Everything is so reasonably priced as well. Excellent experience!

Yelp
Food (5 out of 5) -- we kept it simple with a 3.58 lbs steak, arugula and pear salad, and a couple of desserts. All were delicious. The steak was outstanding! Drink (5) -- delicious house wine for less than a coke. I need to move to Italy! Service (5) -- a well run, exceptionally busy place with great service. Atmosphere (5) -- does it get any better than that view of the steaks and the oven!? Tables are shared and this small restaurant packs the tables in. We enjoyed chatting with our everyone around us ... in our awful Italian.

Yelp
Fantastic place to eat if you like steak--old school Tuscan Steak where owner comes to the table and shows you what you are eating. Pasta was amazing as well as the eggplant parm. Food is fresh and staff is awesome. Don't forget the tiramisu-

Yelp
We waited 10 years to come back! The first time, we happened upon this restaurant as they opened, were seated first, and within minutes the place was packed. Having no idea about the restaurant, we only ordered pasta. It wasn't until seeing the owner bring huge slabs of meat to the tables that we realized what we SHOULD have ordered. Fast forward 10 years. On our way back to Rome from Tuscany, this stop was a must. Worried that we wouldn't get a seat, we arrived early, put our name on the reservation list for 12:30 and then relaxed until they opened. The wait was worth it! While he has been doing this for years, the owner was funny and personable. We took a picture with our slab and it was cooked to perfection! 1.3 kilograms did the trick! The 12:30 seating on a Saturday did not totally fill up. But the second seating seemed to fill up quickly. Highly recommend if you are in Montepulciano.

Yelp
Very good food, very low prices. The steak was $60 - would have been about $130 in NYC. The service was great. They don't listen to you when you ask them to cook to a certain temperature (and I asked in Italian), but it's part of the charm. A rare steak is very difficult to cut and chew; also, cooking to medium brings out more beef flavor. (Please don't fight me on this.) They cooked it a second time with no fuss. Had some wild boar with tagliatelle, an anchovy bruschetta, the cheapest carafe of (good) wine ever, and some other stuff. Ate the steak for a couple more days. Highly recommend, get in here.

Yelp
Experience was enjoyable! Service was wonderful, sides were delicious. Still not sure what the hype is for Chianina Beef. The presentation is great-they cut off a big slab of beautiful looking T Bone and present it to you. Stun and serve it to you and it is just ok IMO. Owner was hilarious and personable. Atmosphere was loud and fun! Would recommend!

Yelp
Best steak ever. Loved the pasta course is well. Honestly one steak is enough for 4 people with all the other delicious things served. You must make a reservation though. Don't miss this while you are there.

Yelp
The vibe is rustic and informal. You'll be seated next to people (probably Italian) don't know, and you have the best steak you've probably ever had. The owner will personally show you the steak, for you to inspect before cooking. It will look huge but remember there's a lot of bone in there. For US people it's the equivalent to a USDA Prime Porterhouse steak, but for a 1/4 the cost you would pay at an American steakhouse. It's also going to come fairly rarer than your probably used. Just go with it, they know what they're doing here, and it'll be perfect. We got the melted Pecorino as a starter, which was quite good. For the first course I got the pasta with wild boar and my wife got the four cheese pasta. I loved mine, my wife wasn't a fan of hers (I finished it for her, it was good to me). She thought it was a bit bland. We also got roasted potatoes on the side that were simple and delicious. For the main course we got the house specialty Florentino steak. Why would you get anything else? I consider myself a bit of a steak connoisseur, and I've had steak from California to Texas and now to Italy and this was the best. We also had 2 carafes of house wine (only €6 each!) which is the local Montepulciano Nobile red. For desert my wife had the Panna Cotta, and I had the ricotta with chocolate. Both were very good. And of course finished the meal with cafes. Amazing restaurant. Note, if you get the 9:30 pm (21:30) reservation you won't be eating until well after 10, and finish about 11:30, so plan your appetite accordingly. The most amazing part is it was so affordable. The whole meal cost what just the steak (of that size and grade) would cost in the states. Highest possible recommendation.

Yelp
This was listed as one of the best places to eat in Montepulciano and definitely make reservations cause there was a wait out the door before opening. They open at 7-7:30 and everyone waiting basically had reservations. They do two sittings - one at 7ish and one around 9ish right after the first group is done. They have a fairly quick turnover. We came the night before and made reservations for the next night and it worked perfectly. This is a share your table with other groups, family dining experience. Which made it fun to meet other people from all over and forces you to converse with them. Adds to the experience if you add me. They also have huge blocks of t-bone (Bistecca Alla Florentina) and the owner basically hacks off a piece and brings it over to you for approval before they throw them into the wood fire oven to cook. He brought one that was like 2kg for a group of 3 and we had to decline cause it was so big! We ended up with 1.5kg, which was perfect for 3 people if you like to eat like I do :) The overall experience was fantastic - the hacking of the t-bone, the presentation, the wood fire, the owner coming over to write on your table the size and price of your steak, and at the end he comes over and writes down everything you ordered and does mental math right there on the table! Impressive! We were spoiled by our Bistecca Alla Florentina in Florence so thought this was lacked a bit. But it was still tender and delicious and definitely on the raw side, so if you like it more done, tell them beforehand. They don't ask so make sure you specific if you want to. We like it just how they prepare it cause the meat qualify is fantastic. Overall good steak, good pasta, truffle pecorino from the region, house wine and delicious! Thumbs up!

Yelp
Wow. This was my favorite food experience in Tuscany. Make a reservation because it's going to be packed, even on a week night in the winter. The tables are communal so get cozy and meet your neighbors. The prices are honestly very reasonable for most items. The steaks are huge but well worth the cost! We got their gnocchi (amazing texture) with red sauce, 1/2 liter of house red wine (only 3 euro!!), and of course, the T-bone rib eye steak. Only seasoned with salt, cooked perfectly in a wood-fired oven. You can see the chef in the back hacking off huge cuts of steak with butcher knife, then he brings your cut to the table to get your vote of approval prior to cooking. If you're in Montepulciano, make a point to go to Osteria Acquacheta, you won't regret it!

Yelp
We were looking forward to eating here with all the hype and good reviews. We booked a month in advance for an off-season reservation in September. Our experience was fine but not up to the hype. The food was fine but nothing memorable. The steak was cut and cooked over a fire with some salt sprinkled on top. This seemed simplistic. The meat lacked any kind of spectacular mention and was honestly a little tough. We kept the leftovers and they got more tender when we reheated them the next day. Picky point: they serve you with a single glass for your setting. Even if you have water and wine. When we asked for another glass, the owner said that they only give you one glass to keep costs down. You pay for the steak and not for the extras, he said. This just seemed cheap to us. The owner was nice to us and joked about it but he was serious too -- one glass per customer. Overall we were still glad we went there but I do believe it was overly hyped. I've had better steak at much more humble chains.

Yelp
We stayed in Montepulciano in April and dined here. The owner welcomed us, recommended a delicious appetizer. We ordered the smallest steak, 2 lbs! It was cooked to perfection. The meat isn't as juicy as a ribeye but still quite good.

Yelp
Found it by chance and were super hungry. Didn't look like much, but was very busy and mostly with locals. Food was simple but super tasty!!!

Yelp
Outstanding, perfectly seasoned steak, and very reasonably priced menu in this ancient town. You can't go wrong here, unless you don't have a reservation. The steak is pretty raw on the inside, wood fire seared on the outside and very tender. My carnivorous family devoured a 2kg t-bone, plus some pastas. And if you request it, they'll heat up (opportunity for additional cooking if needed) your remaining meat. Pastas, crostini and bruschetta were delicious too. Service is extremely efficient but friendly. If you do have a reservation, be on time - they strictly adhere to a 15-minute lateness policy.

Yelp
Reservations are a must. Yes, we had reserved a few days in advance, so we were one of the lucky ones waiting for the place to open. I do believe that some thought that just crowding the entrance and charging in when they opened guaranteed admittance. Everyone is seated in long communal tables. If you're lucky, you will get pleasant dining neighbors. We did. We enjoyed our conversation with our neighbors even with my so-so Italian. Yes, they were Italian. I would guesstimate that it was 1/2 tourists 1/2 locals. There are many items on the menu, including pastas. At least for me, I would not get pasta since it's so filling and the steak is the main attraction. We did order the sausage because my husband wanted to try it. It was great btw. I also ordered the Baked Pecorino with Pears. Oh my gaaaawd! This was absolutely fantastic! I was craving it for the next few days. The steak was gigantuan and tasted really good. We had a hard time finishing it. For dessert, we had a semifredo that was delicious as well. Their house wine is not bad at all either. I would keep track of what I order and the prices though. Doesn't hurt to check the math and make sure that everything is correctly calculated. The prices are VERY fair and way more reasonable than here in Miami. We cannot wait to return!

Yelp
A carnivore's dream. Huge steaks seared over wood coals and served rare. Real Italian old school ambiance.

Yelp
I have sent over 10 family/friends visiting the area to dine at Acquacheta -A TOP choice on my TOP 5 FAVORITE RESTAURANTS!

Yelp
Dining at Osteria Acquacheta was an incredible experience. The owner may look cranky, but he and his staff are warm and inviting. The Smoked Burrata with Dried Tomatoes on the hand-written specials menu was incredible! The Tagliatelle Formaggi 1st course was amazing. There are no words to describe the T-Bone Steak Alla Fiorentina. Grilled to perfection. The dessert and espresso were a perfect to end our meal. Loved the family dining style, the food, the service, and the perceived chaos. This experience is #1 on my list of things to do in all of Italy!

Yelp
Got lucky and got in here (I was solo) without a reservation. Huge lineup for opening. Had giant sirloin and a salad, excellent!

Yelp
Spent the last ten days in Italy and this was THE best place we had a meal in Milan, Florence, Tuscany and Rome, hands down. We drove two hours from Greve in Chianti since our friend recommended this restaurant. I tried emailing them naively for a reservation the same day before I left and we found the place not thinking we would before the siesta (?). When we were kindly turned away since it was full and a reservation was required, I think who was the owner's wife, said if we didn't mind waiting 30min, we could sit out and she'd bring us a glass of wine. We were ecstatic! The rest was completely amazing. Wine on a hillside while people watching before getting seated. We ordered before getting seated. We wanted to order the entire menu, but were actually informed it was too much and recommendations were given. The bruschetta was great, tripe and tomatoes, pici were authentic and delicious, and finally sirloin fantastic! It was weighed and presented by the owner himself! It was a great piece of meat and had only some salt for seasoning, unlike the buttery steaks in the states. Cooked to perfection! I loved it!!! It was also the best house wine to complement it! All in all, I highly recommend and hope to come again soon!

Yelp
This restaurant is funny, in that it purposely plays up the grumpy vibe with the owner. His scowling eyebrows are literally painted on the sign outside, the website lays out many rules for eating there, etc. But...he's a super friendly guy and oh boy the food is really great! We had three kinds of pasta to start, then bacala and a huge t-bone. I'd say we mis-ordered and should have ordered less, but it was seriously great food. This restaurant takes its meat seriously; the steak was easily the best we had in Italy and better than most (all?) steakhouses in the US. I think it's easier to add really good pasta to a great steak place than the other way around. The restaurant is small, and you share long tables with other parties. Many people tried to get a seat without a reservation and were turned away. My suggestion is, if you are coming to Montepulciano, to call a few days ahead and get a reservation. It's worth it - you will not be disappointed. My only caution is that the beef courses here are designed to share, not one-each, so take that into consideration when ordering.
google avatar

Yelp
Went out of our way to eat here and it was really good. We had steak and pasta, you pick the size of your cut. Both the steak and pasta were really good and some of the best we had in all of Tuscany. Keep in mind that florentine beef is leaner and you cant expect the same flavor as a fatty rib eye you get in North America but I'm totally good with that, I appreciate leaner cuts. House wine was a but weak but I think they let you bring your own bottle so would suggest you do that.

Yelp
This place was swarmed at 7:32pm last night. Well it opened at 7:30 and without a reservation, you weren't getting in. We were fortunate enough that our hotel helped us make one a few days ago. And the swarming was justified by the awesome food that come out afterwards. It was more than just good steak - it was good environment, friendly people who knew who they were and executed with passion as well as just fresh high quality stuff. The owners Giulio and Chiara are a neighborhood icon. Chiara comes around to take orders on everything ex-steak. Then her husband Giulio comes around to talk meat. Both speak English quite well and don't discriminate against tourists vs locals. In fact, we learned that even though most people spoke Italian in the restaurant, we estimate about half of them were still tourists. But it's low season now. Who knows what happens during summer months. Ok back to the food ... Know what you want when you walk in - the food falls in a few categories: crostini/bruschetta/cheese & meat cold plates, pasta, steak, sides. It's best to be prepared with an idea of what you want as you sit down. And of course everyone should get the steak which given other reviewers I won't go into detail on but suffice to say definitely high quality and worth every dime and perhaps more importantly, every calorie. To be brutally honest, I have to say the steak Florentine I had in a pinchos bar in San Sebastian, Basque Country of Spain was probably more tender & equally flavorful so I won't say best steak in my life but still a very good steak. We weren't hungry enough for pasta as a first corse but the sides were superb! They had fresh white truffles in season and OMG I was about to order a second of their cauliflower mash with white truffles except that I knew I couldn't finish it all but I still wanted more! It was mashed to look like mashed potatoes but was ridiculously good! The spinach with butter thankfully had more taste of spinach than butter which could not be said about most restaurants in Tuscany. The salads leaves tasted what I'd call farm to table organic - slightly bitter, crunchy and fresh. Their table wine was also excellent and so affordable! They only have red, no whites (duh doesn't go with steak) and expresso, no tea for example. What they do, they do well. But come here with an open mind of what you will be eating. Oh and dessert - omg I think I died and went to heaven. This is what I'd imagine clouds to taste like if there was a grown up foodie version of the Willy Wonka candy factory - their marscspone, whipped cream and white truffles was a new discovery that might be one of my most memorable experiences on this Tuscany vacation. The only slight critique - probably could have used a dash more powdered sugar but the texture was still amazing! You can count on me trying to replicate the cauliflower mash and this dessert though I'm already pretty sure I won't get it spot on ... But how could I resist trying? Tips: make a reservation and get there on time, then go with the flow! And let it take you to a great place.

Yelp
What a find!!!!! We had been here for lunch on a previous visit but wanted to come back for dinner and the famoso Bistecca Fiorentina!!!! There are two dinner seatings - 7:30 and 9:45pm. We had the 7:30. After ordering, the chef comes out with a big ol' t bone. In English, he explains he usually does 4-5 pounds for 3 people - and writes the cost on the place mat. We say yes!!!! Soon after out comes a perfectly seared, rare bistecca fiorentina! The meat just melts in your mouth. I dont know if I've ever had a better steak. While the steaks are being served and eaten, you could hear a pin drop its so quiet! Wine is available - but you can bring your own bottle for a 3 euro corkage. If you are in the area - do not miss this place! And absolutely make a reservation!!!

Yelp
One of the best meals and dining experience we had during our 2 week trip to Italy! We were so lucky to have gotten seats at this place without a reservation! The place is small and cozy with an open kitchen in the back where you can see "the man" hack up the meat you'll be eating that evening. Butchered to order....just fantastic. I can't even remember all the food we had here....our party of 4 ate like pigs that night. Prociutto with melon, pears with cheese, pasta with veal sauce, another pasta dish with arugula pesto...all fabulous. Then there was the steak. The huge t-bone for 2 that we devoured as soon as it hit our plates. The most memorable dessert was the fresh ricotta with chocolate sauce, although the panna cotta was delish as well. The service was great, ambiance was of a family style, shoulder to shoulder, conversing with your neighbors kind of fun dining experience. If you're ever in Tuscany, take the drive out to Montepulciano....it's a small little charming town, and this restaurant alone is worth the drive. This place is a MUST. This place was one of the cheapest meals we had as well. Such a bargain for all the food you get!

Yelp
We came here October of 2016 during our honeymoon. We spent 2 weeks in Italy and ate the most incredible food everywhere we went. That being said, 2 years later, we talk about the lunch we had at Osteria Acquacheta more than any meal we had on our whole trip. From the down home cooking, to the super reasonable prices, this was a 10 out of 10. We split a ton of things- a meat sauce pasta, a rabbit pasta and a dish called Pumpkin Parmesan- which we still talk about at least once a month to this day. It was essentially a chicken parm, minus chicken plus pumpkin and you've got one of the most incredible things you've ever eaten. We washed it down with a giant carafe of wine, which I'm pretty sure was like 3 euros. I can't wait to come back here someday and try the steak, which is what they're known for. We tried pretty much everything else and can vouch that you can't eat a bad dish here.

Yelp
Came with a group of 8 for lunch and called ahead for a reservation ( a wise choice). It was packed, which is always a good sign. Started with some pecorino cheese with truffles, and a baked pecorino and pear dish. Interesting pairing, but very tasty. We split three huge pasta plates, one with pici (local pasta) with wild boar sause (cinghiale), tagliatelle with mushrooms, and gnocchi zucchini pesto. All amazing. Very extensive standard menu, but also a long, hand-written menu with specials of the day and seasonal fare. Now, the steaks. As an American living in Italy, I generally avoid the Italian steaks because they are nearly always a) cut very thin, and b) overcooked and WAY overdone. Not the case with this place. The steaks are huge, and when I say that I mean like 2 1/2 - 3 inches thick and MASSIVE. They ask how many people are eating, cut the steak like 15 feet away in the open kicken, bring it back so you can see it, then they cook it. It's cooked very rare (which is how I like it) and seasoned only with salt. I seriously did not think we'd finish what we had, but we managed. Very cool ambiance and after eating and drinking ourselves stupid, the bill was 25 euro a person. Awesome. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
A must if you are in Montepulciano. Reservations are required, but one of the most memorable and unique meals we had. We actually went back for lunch the next day.

Yelp
This was definitely the perfect meal, and I am so glad that it was my first meal upon my arrival in Tuscany. My sister made reservations for 10 people for lunch here, and it's probably one of the best decisions she's ever made in her life. It is also one of the most memorable meals of my life. Seriously. Friendly owner, friendly staff, gorge decor, and delicious food. What more could a girl ask for? I can tell you that the T-bone steak here is by far, the best steak I've ever had in my life. Cooked to perfection, seasoned to perfection.. I almost didn't want to stop eating. It wasn't only the steak though, everything served to us was equally as amazing and I can't find one negative thing to say about this establishment. Do order the pici with white truffle! Do order the tagliatelle with wild ragu! Those two pastas were such great compliments to the steak, and I would die to have the pici back at home in states.. although that's near impossible. So, yes, if you ever decide to visit Siena or Montepulciano or any region of Tuscany that is close enough to Osteria Acquacheta, you must give this place a try.

Yelp
This quaint little restaurant came highly recommended by two different people and now I understand why. Simply put, it was one of the best restaurants we visited in all of Italy. Here is the skinny.... they only do two seatings a day. One at 7:30 and one at 9:30. Without a reservation the chances of getting in are slim to none. We opted for the 9:30. For each seating a mass of people crowd the entrance waiting for their name to be called. Based on the size of your party, you are seated at one of three large tables with strangers that are about to become friends. House wine is served in a carafe and is fantastic. They are known for their Florentine style steak and all through dinner you hear the large cleaver striking down on the cutting board. Their t-bones must come from a t-Rex. Be prepared, they don't ask you how you like the steak cooked, it comes only one way - raw. For a steak connoisseur this is heaven. Vegetarian? Probably close to hell. For me? Amazing. The home made gnocchi with mushrooms? Killer! Beyond the food, a shared table ensures you meet some fellow travelers. My favorite part of the experience? The proprietor that comes table side and calculates your bill by hand on the butcher paper tablecloth. Everything about this place is special. Don't miss it if you are in Montepulciano.

Yelp
While the food was good, we were given horrible service for lunch. We were the first to sit down with many groups and couples sitting down after us but we were always waited on or served last... I don't want to say it was because we weren't Italian but it sure did feel like it... We couldn't make up our mind on food and no one was patient enough to explain the menu. At the end it took us 20 minutes to get our check even asking several waitresses. Wouldn't recommend this place, sadly.

Yelp
My wife and I have had multiple dinners here over the years and each time, we have been blown away by the food and atmosphere. Unfortunately however, we had a very poor experience this evening and we won't be returning. In short, the owner attempted to overcharge us by 68% (he "does math" in his head without a calculator as he's writing on the paper placemat). The mistake was very clearly intentional because we were a group of 12 American tourists and upon correcting him, he failed to apologize for this several hundred dollar error and promptly encouraged us to leave the restaraunt because another party was waiting for our table. In closing, we absolutely adore the experience and have recommended Acquacheta to many people over the years... but we now question the owner's integrity and will no longer recommend Acquacheta to others.

Yelp
Quaint, cozy, casual atmosphere. Packed in but comfortable.. Limited menu, but everything is excellent. It's family-style. The food was really good. Local steak is 2 1/2 to 3 inches thick. It is an amazing taste. The menu is typical Italian with local foods. A liter of red wine, the house wine, is six euros. Well worth the price. Very easy to drink. This place is highly recommended. Entire dinner for six people was €87. A bargain.

Yelp
Wow this place is a must stop and you need a reservation. It's family style seating and we sat with a great group. The house wine is cheap and delicious. The beef is fresh, but cooked a little rare for my taste. Other than that everything was excellent! Definitely would recommend for atmosphere and food!

Yelp
The florentine steak was a huge disappointment for me. Its what you will call a porterhouse in the UK. The meat was very tough, even though it was cooked to just rare. Frankly, the only redeeming factor when comparing to the same in Hawksmoor in London is that the price is about 40% cheaper. The rest of the dishes we had were good, so I would recommend skipping the steak and trying the other dishes. Baked pecorino was my favourite, and a great way to try a local cheese!

Yelp
My husband and I were in Montepulciano March of 2012 for three nights. We ate at Osteria Acquacheta the first night we were there after reading a recommendation for the place in Rick Steves' travel book. It was amazing! We loved it so much, in fact, that we went there again our last night. We stayed in Italy for two weeks, and consider this the best meal we had...by far! Our waitress was a complete jewel and was patient with me as I tried to talk/order in Italian. This place is known for it's steak, the absolute best I've ever had. Our first night there we had bruschetta for our antipasta, we each ordered a primi, split a steak for our secondi (the steak was as big as my head), split a salad and then finished off with the best homemade tiramisu. When it comes time for the steak to be cooked, the owner comes over to the table and asks how big you want the cut. He then goes to the butcher's block and cuts off a piece right in front of you with his gigantic cleaver! Then, he brings the raw meat over for you to inspect, then cooks it 7 mins on each side, leaving it rare in the middle (these steaks are really thick). The house wine is the local Nobile di Montepulciano and a Liter costs under 6E. If you are going to be dining here over the weekend, you absolutely need to make reservations. In fact, I would recommend making reservations regardless of the time of your visit... you don't want to miss out on this extraordinary meal!

Yelp
We stayed in Montepulciano and I'm pretty sure this is one of the best steak restaurants in the area. First off, be sure to book a table in advance. You can call or email. Then arrive 10-15 minutes before your time and the hostess will start calling out reservation names to check if you are there. She will then start seating the people she's checked off. Of course get the steak, there is no question about that. The question is, can you eat anything else? If you can, you should order a plate of pasta. If you start to slow down from all of the meat consumption, they will gladly warm up your steak. You can bring your own wine or they have a few for you to select from. Enjoy!

Yelp
You really can't beat the value. We had some outstanding meals here. Started with a truffle pasta appetizer and finished with pasta bolognese made with boar meat- unbelievable... Met some great people too

Yelp
This restaurant is the bomb!! So fun. A dining experience! Stop in and get a reservation for the night you want. Don't try and just show up because you might be disappointed. The food was amazing and you have to have the steak. It's the best I've ever had. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Decent tuscan steak and good value for money - 3.2 EUR per 100g. Ask for medium cuz they usually come out a bit on the rare side.

Yelp
We were recommended this by our hotel and ended up eating lunch and supper here. Make sure you book as they fill up early and have a 1930 and 2115 sitting. It was mushroom season, so the specials were all truffles and porcini from nearby mount amiata. The tagliatelli with shaved porcini was stunning, as was the 1kg Sirloin that they butchered in front of us. Was going to have the T-Bone, but at 1.6kg the owner suggested we could not handle it. He was right. We took our seven month old baby in with us - they had a high chair set up for him, and he loved it too.

Yelp
We came here because of the 5 star rating across the board. It did not disappoint!!!! Although they mixed up our reservations, they still accommodated us. The owner personally cuts the meat for you and presents it to you before cooking it. DELICIOUS!!!! We also had this GREAT amber beer that went well with the meal. A MUST stop if you're in the area.
