A wonderful restaurant located in beautiful caves. We arrived at 7pm without reservations (recommended) and had to wait until 8pm to be seated. But it was so worth it. The food is delicious and the atmosphere provides a special experience. I ordered a mixed salad and the Parmesan ravioli with truffle sauce - SO good! For dessert, I had the white chocolate cheesecake with strawberries, which was also delicious. Highly recommend!

Astonishing restaurant carved into the rocks.
The food was a once in a lifetime experience.
We did most of the starters and couldn’t decide wich one was better!
Local cuisine taken to a gourmet level without charging like one.
If you ever go to Matera, you cannot miss having dinner in here!

The food was so good. Fresh tuna tartar, super soft grilled octopus, and the lambs were all delicious.
I had the concern on negative review of bad service attitude before I went there; however, we were lucky that the staffs gave us quick response to inquiries and offered proactive service.

What a quaint restaurant with unique fine food. I chose this restaurant because of reviews and I liked unique touches like horseradish sauce, ginger sauce, lamb topped with a crust or Burrata in a bread bowl. We hadn’t seen these fun twists to Italian food on our two week tour of Puglia.
The food, ambiance and value were outstanding. I’d rather dine here than at the more touristy and pricey ristorantes in the upper old town.
However, the surly, rushed staff, detracted from the fine experience. They handled the food like a mess hall.

The location is beautiful. I had the best dish in Osteria al Casale for our 2 day stay in Matera. Excellent service. I recommend coming for a meal here.

Meraviglioso! ✨ Wonderful meal at this quaint osteria built into one of the hillside caves. Elegant setting, gentle lounge music and excellent service from the whole team, they were all so professional and attentive.
Great menu and wine list with lots of local wines. Being the burrata lover I am had to order the local burrata (fresh and oozy) and was so surprised when it came served inside a focaccia bread bowl, fun!
For mains we chose pasta dishes and they were delicious - nice presentation on a rectangular plate and generous portion 🍝 the truffle ravioli was divine! Good selection of desserts as well, the tiramisu very tasty.
From a Madrid / London POV great value for money for this type of setting and quality of food 👏🏻

Food is good and service was nice as well. Very cool at the restaurant is within the cave and the atmosphere is very beautiful and unique. So cool that the wine cellar is hidden underground too. We had, tuna tartar truffle ravioli, sausages and steak.

Probably the second best restaurant in our 20 days trip in Italy, food was fantastic! Specially thanks to Domenica! She deserves 10 stars for her excellent service and the care she gave to us, another male staff probably thought we are from China by our look and didn’t give us enough attention, we can even feel the disregard. Well we are not from China, and he shouldn’t judge people based on that. What’s a shame for such a fantastic restaurant, but the food was amazingly delicious
