I made reservations ahead of time which was needed since they were very busy. It was the weekend and the whole piazza was full of people. We started with Tuscan prosciutto and mozzarella di bufala. It was great! Then we got a pasta dish each. I got the pappardelle with cinghiali (wild boar ragu) unfortunately the sauce was extremely dry and didn’t have that strong flavour of cinghiali that I’m use to when I go eat this dish in other parts of Italy. But I added some Olive and and extra cheese to make it less dry. The other pasta dish was their pasta Pici that is famous in Siena region with breadcrumbs and pancetta. That was super tasty, reminded me of a similar dish in Molise they do with breadcrumbs. The prices seem fair, there was a 3€ cover per person. We decided not to have dessert or seconds as we wanted to see if what other restaurants had to offer. I have to add the staff were all Super welcoming and friendly.

We ate lunch here as a family of 6 with no reservation on a week day afternoon visiting Monteriggioni from Florence on our way to Tuscany. We had the pici saporiti pasta, cacio e pepe, wild boar pappardelli, and beef pappardelli. All of our dishes were quite good! The beef with the pappardelli was very tasty and we liked the thick pici noodles. We ate back in the garden because there were no more covered tables for a big group on square, but that was ok!

A Memorable Tuscan Meal at Osteria Antico Travaglio We had an unforgettable dining experience at Osteria Antico Travaglio, perfectly situated overlooking the charming square of Monteriggioni. After reading glowing reviews, our expectations were high and they were completely exceeded. We began with the Antipasto Toscano, a generous and delicious selection of local cured meats and cheese that set the tone for the meal. For mains, we tried the Pappardelle al ragù di Chianina, which featured perfectly cooked pasta with a rich, slow-cooked sauce made from the prized Chianina beef. The Cinghiale alla cacciatora (hunter’s wild boar) was deeply flavorful, hearty and slow-cooked to perfection, especially with the white beans (add in onions if you like) recommended by our attentive and patient server; an excellent pairing. The Trippa alla Fiorentina was also a standout, cooked in true Florentine style with tender tripe and savory tomato sauce. We ended the meal simply with a caffè, soaking in the peaceful view of the medieval piazza. The food was authentic, flavorful, and made with care. The service was warm and knowledgeable. As a lovely gesture, our server even gifted us a postcard to remember the visit. The reviews were absolutely right. Highly recommended - an absolute gem in Tuscany!

Google
Very unique experience with exceptional service and extraordinary food, and wine. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, the location had a vibe that was rustic and simple. The fortified town is totally worth visiting and this is the place to eat once inside.

Best Tuscan restaurant in Monteriggioni, and what a view of the medieval fortress to enjoy while you dine! Ribollita and Risotto are amazing, and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.

I just ate the most amazing Tortello, it was filled with meat and cooked in the oven with Parmesan cheese, butter and truffles. The combination was exquisite, the flavors super well balanced. I’ll have to come back for more

Ate here twice in the last few days, and it was amazing. Meals worthy of mentioning were the specials/menu of the day, artichoke risotto, and polenta with wild boar ragu, also on the main menu the rabbit stuffed with artichoke was devine. I hope to make it back here again!

Yelp

Yelp
Very nice Italian restaurant. Service was very good. I had the melon and ham, pici pasta with oil and cheese and I tried the wild boar. I would not suggest the wild boar to anyone. Not good. The service was very good. Location was great. Lots of flies and tables were small. Wine list was ok. I drank a Chianti that was good. The gelato was pretty amazing. For a tourist restaurant I would suggest you go. If you are a food critic I would suggest not. The price was very good.

Yelp
This is my first trip to Italy and it's been a phenomenal experience so far! It was recommended that we checkout Monteriggioni and the locals restaurants inside this castle town. I highly recommend this place if you are ever around. I came here with my brother and we split two main entrees and a bruschetta. The food was very flavorful and the view you get is amazing! Please be aware of the additional 2 euro cover charge that add to the bill per person. So if you have three people in your party, they will add an extra 6 euro to your final bill. The service was overall good, but they could use additional staff since it was Abit slow during the busy hours.

Yelp
Excellent food and terrific service. Very accommodating to families and children. Every dish we ordered was well prepared and delicious.

Yelp
We visited Antico Travaglio in Monteriggioni on our last night in Tuscany. It's a relatively short climb up to the piazza from the parking lot (relative by Tuscan standards, of course!) and it's lovely. The restaurant is tucked in one corner of the piazza, fronted by a cute gelato cafe. You enter the cafe to get to the main restaurant. We didn't have reservations and were initially told that we couldn't be seated, but the staff was wonderfully accommodating and after a short wait, we were seated. The interior is very pretty at night. We started with bruschetta and pate. I ordered the fillet of beef which was extremely rare and was perfectly seasoned. DH ate about 1/4 of it, along with his own meal! Our girls both ordered pasta dishes (both vegetarian) and both cleaned their plates. This is significant because one is a VERY picky eater. DH ordered the wild boar ragu and loved it. Unfortunately, we completely forgot to take photos of this particular meal :( We finished with cappucino and tiramisu. Both excellent as would be expected. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and the interior is very pretty at night. If it hadn't been so chilly (we were there at the end of March) it would have been nice to sit outside but unfortunately that wasn't an option on this particular evening. If you are in the area, I highly recommend this sweet restaurant!

Yelp
Is it lovely place to stop and have a wine and a beer or an orange juice and a gelato I'm

Sandie B.

Yelp
We sat on the quiet, lovely back patio and blissfully ate our amazing lunch. I had the ragu with meat sauce and had it with pici instead of papardelle. My friends had the cod and loved it--in fact, at the end of the trip, they decided that the cod here was the best meal they'd had in all of Italy (and we at some amazing meals...). And the fried artichokes were fantastic.

Yelp
We began our day at Antico Travaglio, eating outdoors and looking out at the small piazza to get a feel for the town. The frienly host told us there are only 40 residents (him being one of them) in the town. The pasta and gelato were all top notch!

Yelp
Beautiful setting in the square of an old walled town. Good food. Service a little slow but they were quite busy. Worth taking a break there. A Lebanese family

Yelp
Lovely local wines and local specialities. Good service and advice. Great view of the castle and lovely atmospheres.

Yelp
Very good food here. Great service. Slow braised veal, bruschetta, wild boar ragu, cacceo e Pepe... All very good

Sherrie Z.

Yelp
What a great time we had here! We had the tagliata aromi (sliced veal filet over Rosemary roasted potato -- I thought it was beef because there was so much) and bruschetta - both excellent. My husband wants to go back and have another order of the veal! He said it was perfect and he's a tough critic. They have a gorgeous garden in the back if you don't want to sit in the Square.

Yelp
Wonderful food and great service along with a beautiful view! The food was incredible and outside dining in the main square was a delight. A must visit restaurant in this city!
