I am not someone who tends to over-criticize, but in this case I would like to share a few observations from our visit.
At the beginning of the ordering process, the staff communicated with us in Italian, even though we were speaking English. After some time, they switched to English, which we appreciated, but it had already left us with a certain sense of uncertainty.
We were surprised that it was not possible to order two different tasting menus – we were told that only two identical menus could be ordered. We understand that this may be related to kitchen organization and the complexity of preparation; however, we would have appreciated some explanation rather than a brief refusal.
For example, we ordered the beef cheeks prepared sous-vide. Although the description mentioned 16 hours of cooking, the meat was not as tender as we would have expected. The flavor, however, was good, as was the polenta with mushroom sauce. The Spaghettone quadrato felt somewhat unbalanced in flavor. A glass of rather average Nebbiolo at EUR 9 (0.1 l) seemed slightly overpriced considering the quality.
What we had hoped would be a lovely Valentine’s evening turned into a rather average dining experience.
