This is a must stop in Bologna! My husband, I came here during a week-long visit. We truly stumbled across this place while looking for somewhere to grab a glass of wine. Since we saw only locals inside, we opted to go in and I’m so glad we did. We found out later that this is the second oldest Osteria in Italy! The photos on the wall depict some of its amazing patrons who have been here in the past. We both got to try to very different types of amazing wine, local to the region. We decided to bring food with us from the Butcher just a few stalls down. And I’m so glad we did. The local meat and cheese paired well with the wine that we had, and offered a great respite from the afternoon heat. There is a bathroom, you don’t have to pay to use, if you are staying and enjoying a drink. There is plenty of seats and tables inside. And there are a few spots outside for smokers as well. The two gentlemen behind the bar were more than accommodating, and offered us a great deal of options to choose from for our wine. I was deciding between two that was suggested, and I was able to get a sample of each to try. The gentleman made sure I finish my entire sample before he poured me a fresh glass, fuller than I anticipated. The prices were more than fair and with this laid-back atmosphere, I felt I could stay there for hours, enjoying wine and a meal. This place is also good for groups, as they have a good amount of space to accommodate. You don’t have to dress up, or feel uncomfortable in wearing something more casual here. It’s not a very fussy place, which is why I think it should be on everyone’s list to visit. No reservations needed, you just walk in and find a spot. When my husband and I returned to Bologna, you can be sure I will be coming back!

Great vibe of authentic vintage pub. Really nice staff. Got two tasty local cheap beers and ate own lunch. A little disappointment was that the beer is bottled. It is not the place where you would like to spend whole evening, but i would recommend it for a quick drink.

This is a great place to visit if you are in Bologna, the wine and beer service, atmosphere are outstanding, the food is down to the individuals who want to use the establishment. You may struggle to find somewhere to sit, if that's the case go around the market place return and there will be somewhere. Well worth a visit and don't be put off if you don't speak Italian, the language of food and wine is universal 😉

The second oldest trattoria in the history of Italy! Just that is a reason to come by and have a glass of Lambrusco! Apart from that, this place really made me feel like home! From rich to poor this place accommodates literally anyone and thats something really special, because you feel instantly a friend with anybody near you. Its about the energy. You have to experience this yourself! Feel free to take your snack and enjoy it for free there!! Loved it really!! Thank you! Keep the history alive!

Stopped in as part of a food tour, so the experience was probably different than it would be if we had just popped in. Ultimately, it's a vibe. It seems exclusively at this point to service food tours, which they seem to do well. We walked to the back by many other tables reserved for other groups. It's somewhat divey, which I think they lean into. The wines were pretty good and curated well for the tour. You're allowed to bring your own food, which is seemingly the thing to do. Would I venture here outside the tour? Probably not. But definitely serves the purpose for the tours.

This hostelry only sells wine or beer. Customers are encouraged to bring their own picnics. Very friendly service. There is no sign outside, so it is necessary to research and/or ask to find its location. We bought our picnic from the small market in a parallel street and enjoyed eating it in the outside courtyard of Sole along with one of the five varieties of prosecco on offer.

We went here on our first night in Bologna and we're so glad we did! The vibe is electric andir feels like everyone and everything is alive! The bar is old school, homely and no nonsense. You get your own food from outside and share a table with strangers and just soak in the goodness of life. Absolute must do in Bologna! We had the spritz, a glass of the pignoletto and the valpolichella rosso- excellent.

Very cheap and boiling with the bohemian nightlife of Bologne. Don’t expect a fancy place, instead of luxury you will find a crowded place with happy people drinking their beers. We had just a glass of Prosecco and left because we were tired, but the place is really nice. Walls covered by pictures and art that tell the rich history of the place. Totally worth it.

Yelp
The oldest wine bar in Bologna, opened in the 15th century. It's been made famous by being featured on food and travel shows. Nothing new to add beyond what other Yelpers have already mentioned-- bring your own food, buy their wine, try to find a table. We visited with a food tour and tried one of their white wines which was refreshing and affordable. The next day, we tried to return the next day in the evening to find it quite crowded-- lots of locals and toursits who've also visited on food tours.

Yelp
Very old drink pub feel where you bring your own food. One of those old school pubs where you feel like your waiting for a brawl to break out, but never occurs just has that kind of a charm.. great pricing, wonderful location to enjoy local cuisine, and try some of the spirits and Wine of the area

Yelp
If you recognize this place, it's probably because you watch too much food tv like me. Definitely AB, STucci were here, plus at least a handful of others. So recognizable yet so authentically local and traditional. Get here on the early side when it's just the locals and the feel of the place. Many, many years of history to absorb hanging on its walls and in the air. So, if you don't know this place - it is a drinking establishment ONLY so you bring your own food. Snacks. That is the beauty of the place. Just walk out the door and you will have a potpourri of outstanding choices. Then sit down and enjoy with a glass of sparkling or wine or whatever you choose. A must experience in Bologna.

Yelp
If you like BYOF (bring your own food) places, you should definitely try this one. They have a wide collection of delicious wines and a lot of them are not expensive at all. We arrived with my friends after taking a long walk around the city and it was refreshing to have some cheese and a few glasses of wine before we go to the apartment and rest. The place is comfy and they have lots of nice pictures on the wall. The shops are near so it takes only a few minutes to get some food and visit Osteria del Sole for a nice wine. Affordable place with a calming atmosphere, would recommend it for everyone

Yelp
This place is what you make it. A BYOF (bring your own food) joint with wine for sale. I absolutely loved it because the wine was cheap and generously filled, and we had such a fun time wandering around Bologna and collecting cheeses, meats, and breads to bring with us. The tables are communal, and some of the other parties were having potluck dinners which seemed really fun. It is a unique way to eat dinner with friends, and also a great excuse to visit the local shops and purchase bits and pieces of delicious snacks.

Yelp
I loved Osteria del Sole and will no doubt make multiple visits on my current trip to Bologna. The place reminded me of my favourite local pub from home in that it was old and unpretentious and had a wide demographic, from locals, playing hijinks, messing with camera phones when they really didn't look the type, and singing quietly over their white wine and the pile of cherry stones they had just devoured the surrounds of, to tourists, who, like ourselves, had probably heard of the place in guides to Bologna's go-to places but may not have found it so easy to find despite its central location (there are no signs on the front to say where you are). Not least, we were tempted there by Rick Stein in his recent-ish Long Weekend in Bologna. The decor is cobbled together with, what to me looks like, politically left-leaning posters and art pieces. You may share a table with complete strangers. There is no music, so conversation is the entertainment. The drink is very reasonably priced, with a round for two costing the same as what I'd be used to spending for a pint for one in Dublin. The beers are cold, as is the white and fizzy wine. One of the most unique places I've been to in Italy.

Yelp
A bottle of pretty good white Chardonnay for only €10. Get some ham and cheese from the deli around the corner, or bring in a pizza. A fun place to celebrate a birthday.

Yelp
a bologna institution. It's cheap and cheerful and bring your own food which is easily done as it is located right next to a big food market road.
