If you want to understand Mantuan cuisine—which is famously rich, sweet, and savory—Osteria della Fragoletta is one of the most reliable and atmospheric places to do it. Being listed in the Michelin Guide here doesn't mean white tablecloths and tiny portions; it means high-quality, traditional cooking rooted in history. The restaurant’s claim to fame is its age. It dates back to the 18th century, and legend holds that the famous lover Giacomo Casanova once dined here. The atmosphere reflects this history: it is warm, slightly theatrical, and cozy, with wood paneling and a welcoming, bustly vibe.

A pleasant Osteria, with a friendly owner and nice service. Because of an important holiday, the inviting white-washed dining room was sparsely occupied. You can order typical Mantua dishes - we tried the rice with sausage and the bigoli with a meat sauce (guanciale). While very tasty, the temperature of both dishes was too lukewarm. The horse stew was very savory, I would have like more of the delicious gravy on the meat to accompany the fried polenta.

We went here on the recommendation of the owner of a B and B in Mantua. It did not disappoint. The squash amaretti ravioli were truly a Mantuan specialty. Wine selection was outstanding and service excellent. My spouse had the stracotto which he rated as a 10 out of 10. So glad we made our way to this lovely restaurant.

We were enjoying our day trip in Mantua but when hunger knocks on the door, you have to answer. We made a point to eat earlier in the day as most restaurants are closed after 2PM and probably reopens at dusk. Whatever you love about real Italian food, you will find something delicious here, a menu that consist a celebration of flavours and ingredients. We especially enjoyed Salame Mantovano with warm bread, Spinach salad with melon, shrimp with lime oil and sesame seeds. Primi: Pumpkin tortelli with melted butter and sage, a Traditional Mantuan dish with a little sweetness. We skipped Secondi to save room for one of their dreamy desserts. Indeed, one of the best Osteria if you are looking for truly authentic Mantuan cuisine. Friendly service and a charming, soothing ambience. The location away from the main square area has not affected its popularity among locals and tourists, come early or make a reservation.

We just had an incredible meal at this local restaurant. The price-to-quality ratio was outstanding — generous portions, everything cooked to perfection, and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. On top of that, the waiter and waitress were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. If you’re visiting Mantua, this place is an absolute must-visit!

I visited in October having heard great things about the tortelli di zucca. They did not disappoint, and neither did the other gorgeous hearty regional dishes I tried during my long lazy lunch. It’s a simple interior with supremely friendly service; as a solo traveller I value this highly, and the staff were really lovely. So much so that when I return to see a concert al Teatro Bibiena soon, I can’t wait to visit again.

Everything was perfect in this historic place. First of all, we had no reservation and they took us in at 12. For the whole time being there we did not feel anything but being very welcomed. The food was amazing and its quality justifies the price. If we turn back we will make a reservation, grazie!
